Ok I’m a retired marine mechanic in lake Cumberland ky… I can definitely tell you that a step hull has less drag , which in turn means speed!!! The step creates bubbles that makes (less wetted surface) Slippery means fast! With the right power plant of course
My very good friend was the Fountain dealer in south west Ohio (Grand Prix Marine) and kinda wonder if this one one of his boats. Spent many, many hours riding in and piloting all the Fountain models, including one of two 50 footers. Also got to ride around the waters off the Fountain Factory in a hopped up 42 Lighting with Reggie himself at the wheel. Great memories in these things!
If this is your first Fountain you will not own another brand. I started like you with a 99 27 fever, bone stock 502 mag and I have never touched it except for regular maintenance. I still have the 27 but now own a 32 and 42. This is the first time I've come across your channel. I've subscribed and will be followinsg you. Good luck ay LOTO with a 27. That place is awesome but rough on smaller boat. Appreciate you channeling would enjoy hooking up for a day of boating
I've always said, if you want to go fast, buy a Fountain. Unfortunately due to poor build quality, they are "wet". I have no doubt you will make the boat better than it was from the factory. Enjoy LOTO. I have both of my boats there. Formula 382 Fastech and a Checkmate 283 Convincor.
The more I watch this video the more I think you truly got a good boat & that size is perfect go to the lake ..& then turn around drop it in the gulf run it some islands
Transom repair is a big job ! If you go from the inside cut the transom out and replace it with nida core or some kind of composite… it’s a great boat fo sho
The factory overlooks a lot of things and things are not sealed as good as you think they are so it’s always good to be extra cautious because overtime water will get in and that’s why it’s important to do what I told you to do even if the boat is no still do it and do it every year.
Fountain always did a good job with the look of the boat and the cabin - they were just were not very good at building quality boats - the 27 is the worst hull they ever made! They always were trying too keep them light, and that led to hulls that need work to be reinforced - if you can sell that boat and get your $$$ out - do it now - focus on the Seabold - it is just a better boat (albiet not as cool looking) !
I tell you one thing, it's so easy. Taking off the injury of a boat and rebuilding the floor it's an economic. And you don't make it do it and it's cheap. I've done that in a few of them and I'm a big buck doing it
Most performance manufacturers have copied Fountain's innovations. Step hulls are all over the place now. I LOVE Fountain boats. I think Reggie Fountain had more impact on boating than anyone. I would assume y'all have researched Fountain thoroughly. They have a very complex trim system. Reggie would show every buyer how to operate it. They also included extensive performance documentation with each boat. Which I'm guessing y'all didn't get with this one. You might be able to find some somewhere for a similar boat. You can find videos of Reggie instructing on the trim system. I was overwhelmed at first. I will be getting my first Fountain before the end of the year, hopefully.
My late uncle owned a cabin there. Spent a few summer vacations. Old Chris Craft with a 60hp flying Scott outboard. Stayed there on our senior trip in the late 70s. Very laid back and serene. Now it's over commercialized, McMansions everywhere. Huge nortek boats blasting around. Not so serene anymore.
Only seen a couple vids so far. Enjoyed them very much, great content. If I may respectfully suggest you get a small microphone to clip to your shirt. Hard to hear, then suddenly the guy holding the camera yells and boom ears blown lol. And at the start I was sure that was your kid…till he talked lmfao!
you will be just fine in a 27...im on the main channel every weekend with a 27ft deck boat...just be smart! Make sure you know about the large no wake zones this weekend around the shootout
I seal every bolt and screw on every new boat I get and I never have a problem and I do it every single year just to be sure that vibrations didn’t break the seal. I always seal everything on the boat top to bottom. Where is a screw boat or any crack or anything, I put i sealant on it
Why don't you guys come on down to Kentucky Lake in the land of Baja boats were 4 out 5 are Bajas. My brother has a Cigarette and it stands out. I actually have 1 Baja now but I got it super cheap due to a guy going to jail and couldn't pass it up. And it for sale wink wink But there are power boat that are setting in storage everywhere barns outdoor sheds and even outside with tarps over them.

Make sure you seal every bolt everything on the transom and all over the boat it’s something that most people don’t do, but you should do it that way you keep water from going in because those boats are notorious for getting water in the transom especially with the motor is Doing this will also increase the lifespan of the boat .
Two guys I know at the river who have fountains both had transom rot, one has already spent over 30k to fix it and the other is getting his fixed this winter for 30k
