Thank you so much for reposting the brilliant video of RMS Aquitania departing from New York in 1930. It is a gorgeous representation of how New York Harbour looked at the time and of the bustling activity around departures of the great transatlantic ocean liners of the day. As one of the most beautiful ocean liners ever built and a personal favourite, this video was very much missed. Many thanks for sharing this and greetings from near Southampton, England!

The Aquitania, hailed as the epitome of maritime splendor, embarked on a remarkable journey through the early 20th century, capturing hearts with its grandeur and captivating allure. From its maiden voyage in 1914 to the eve of World War I, this majestic ocean liner stood as a testament to the pinnacle of luxurious travel, its opulent interiors, and expansive decks providing a haven for passengers seeking elegance and comfort on the high seas.
With a length exceeding 900 feet and a capacity to accommodate over 2,000 passengers, the Aquitania reigned as a floating palace, offering an array of lavish amenities and exquisite dining experiences. Its lavish ballrooms, adorned with crystal chandeliers and intricate woodwork, played host to glamorous soirées and unforgettable moments, while its sumptuous cabins and suites provided resplendent sanctuaries for travelers seeking solace amidst the vastness of the ocean.
Throughout its service, the Aquitania traversed the Atlantic Ocean, fostering connections between continents and fostering a spirit of exploration and adventure. It witnessed the grandeur of the "Roaring Twenties," carrying esteemed passengers from celebrities and politicians to wealthy socialites and aspiring immigrants, all united in their pursuit of new horizons.
Alas, as the tides of time shifted and the shadow of war loomed over the world, the Aquitania was enlisted to serve as a troopship during World War I, transforming its once-luxurious interiors into practical spaces to transport soldiers and supplies. It played a vital role in the war effort, ferrying troops across treacherous waters and enduring the perils of enemy attacks.
After the war, the Aquitania resumed its passenger service, albeit with a changed world and a different era. It continued to carry travelers across the Atlantic, bearing witness to the changing tides of history and the ever-evolving landscape of transatlantic travel.
Ultimately, in 1950, after more than three decades of service, the beloved Aquitania bid farewell to the seas it had traversed with grace and distinction. Though its physical presence faded into the annals of maritime history, its legacy endured, forever etched in the memories of those fortunate enough to have sailed upon its decks, a symbol of an era when ocean liners reigned as floating palaces, and the Aquitania stood as a true testament to the art of elegant and luxurious travel.

Aquitania's whistles were identical to the ones used by the White Star Olympic Class Liners (Olympic, Titanic, and Britannic).

apparently they're exactly a note deeper so not really, you can hear it in the video of olympic

@@buzzygaming7667They sound very similar and I’d read that they were identical but I could be wrong. There’s a clearer recording of Olympic’s whistles from when she was filmed arriving in New York after having sunk the Nantucket Light Ship and they sound almost indentical to these on Aquitania. A recording of the triple bell whistles from Mauretania sound very close to Olympic’s as well.

@@1987VCRProductionsThey were ordered a note deeper, though steam would pitch it up either way. So I wouldn't say 'identical' rather heavily similar is the word.

@@Your_Uncle_is_watching The molds were the same. Whistle manufacturers were not in the market for redesigning whistles for every customer. If they wanted to do that, they could just make their own. Any difference between the sound of any of these whistles were from slight differences in how the castings came out, how much wear the whistles had, and the recording equipment used. There was also a bit of difference based on how far the recording was taken from the whistle.

More probably one of the "Big Four". The two funnels briefly visible certainly could be White Star livery but seem too low and small to be Olympic's. Aquitania and Olympic were about the same size and their funnel height was also about the same. As the camera vantage point is from the Aquitania's upper decks, Olympic's funnels would rise above the pier sheds to a much higher level.
