Myself a mechanic of 25+ yrs...For water-pumps, if your engine is used for marine applications (A few)...use the marine version. They use a better sealing system & use a bronze impeller. I've had a handful of water-pumps that the seals are ok, but the sheet-metal impellers get eaten by rust. It gets a bit weird trying to diagnose why your cooling system isn't working. Pay attention to rotation, as some of these pumps are counter-rotating, or the best is uni-rotation (will work regardless of rotation direction).
Go figure huh? Six of one and a half a dozen of another. Glad you finally got it sorted and with a smile on your face to boot. I wonder what happened OFF camera.....lol. Thanks for the video.
Mopar only on the 2.7! The aftermarket will kill it. You can see the difference. The pump on the left has the larger fill for the internal grease for the bearing, part of the 2007 redesign, 2006 has the little grease fill. These are plugged after grease is installed. The advance pump is for a 2007-2010 2.7. Chrysler changed the water pump 3 times on these engines. 1998-2001, 2002-2006 and 2007-2010.
I feel your pain. I've had issues with aftermarket VW parts including front strut mounts on a MK4 Golf and undersized gates drive belts on a 2007 Jetta 2.5. I would use OEM parts whenever possible to avoid frustration with poor fitting after market replacement parts. The pattern failure on Chrysler 2.7 water pumps and timing chains should be a cottage industry for your shop.
we found this problem out years ago, alsom now they have a up dated chain for the 2.7, problem with the second pump was, or is the gasket, if you useda OE from Chrysler gasket, , it wont hit
On a separate note: I am an old Auto & Diesel mechanic of 45+ years. I loved working on the 70's to the older years.. Before the Auto makers came up with the "Front wheel drive cars." I'd like to meet the "Geniuses" who came up with that B.S. design. Just to punch their lights out. I hate working on these dang Cars. I hate it with a passion. And don't get me started with the idea of "It was done, to save fuel.." There was nothing wrong with the way engines were designed back then. Everything was just right. Mechanics had an easier time fixing them.
Hey eric, I'm feelig your pain with the cheap parts ! I ran into the same problem on a pt cruiser. I had to press the propeller onto the shaft a bit further to keep it from binding. Lol ! But who can afford to buy dealer parts ? I enjoy watching your videos. JW in Pittsburgh Pa.
Hey thanks John Williams ! Oh geez everyday I tell ya. It's awful what this parts industry is turning into. We deal with this trash all the time and it starts to get frustrating after a while. Thing is, all I do at my shop is buy the best of what is available at or local parts store. Moog, Dayco, BWD, Felpro and it's all this china crap no matter what box it comes in! Any how enough ranting from me. I have been in contact with several manufactures and it's funny because they all say the same thing. Just "can't believe it" they tell me, I'm the first one who has ever had a problem haha I tell my wife who works with me that I have the worst luck ever because I always get this haha but I have a feeling it's not just me! At any rate thanks a lot for watching! Wait you did a water pump on a PT... you do this for a living or just a determined DIY'er? That's a little bit of a task on those little guys.

i got oem fog lights for my charger and using the bulbs that came with it n 25 mins later the lenses wer startin to melt i could push thru it with a pencil it was so hott
Serviced the tranny on my 98 Dodge Dakota Sport a few months ago. Fluid, filter and pan gasket change - nothing hard, just messy. Got the kit from NAPA; everything look good. A day or two later I found a small puddle of red fluid in my driveway. Long story short, I went to Dodge and bought the OEM gasket for $22 and installed it. I used the same fluid since it only had a few hundred miles on it. The factory gasket was worth every penny. The aftermarket gasket was, to me, a waste of money, not to mention the several hours of a Saturday I can't get back by having to do the job again. And it was messy all over again. YUCK!
You know, it's got 78K on it and it's been really reliable. No problems; just routine maintenance. I had an 2002 Durango with the 4.7L engine. The only thing I do not miss about it is the gas mileage. It was a great engine. I drove it easy but it had plenty of power when I needed it or when a jerk in a Chevy truck/SUV tried to pass me. I saw many Chevys in my rear view mirror. What is it about Chevy trucks that make guys turn into jerks?
when it comes to chryslers i always use oem stuff, and even then i run into problems sometimes with gaskets not lining up or seals that leak while being brand new, its just a shitty brand to work on
Aftermarket shit parts do it to me more often then i'd like... I actually stopped going to the parts store due to, not getting a choice on brand, (more just economy or premium) some are reboxed and gawd only knows who made it. I like rockauto (if you can wait a day or two) cheapest prices I can find and you get a choice of aftermarket. What really screws you is when a good brand you've had luck with starts producting junk...
And the third one you got that you haven't shown because tools were flying and curses were said was sweating coolant thru the Chinese metal pores! Hahahaha!!!!
The electricity usage cost to run the hydraulic lift to raise that piece of shit car off the ground actually cost more than that car is ever going to be worth. Just crush the fucker so no-one else ever has to deal with it again.
wasn't it Henry Ford that said he'd give up making cars if he could monopolize the auto parts market? unfortunately with (modern) Chrysler - OEM parts are always the answer - thank God for eBay!!!
there's a passage and weep hole to direct leaking coolant outside the engine if its due to the axis seal. If its the gasket then it leaks into the block. The problem is Chrysler tried to up-scale this motor when they first built it making it fully O-ring gasketed, but that worked well for everything BUT the water pump. The upgraded pump uses a fiber gasket and that fixed the problem (but also changed the thickness of the pump as can be seen in the prior video where it appears he tried to use the older steel shim+O-ring gasket with the newer/upgraded pump causing the whole shebang to be too thick to fit)
Sometimes... I think that a long time ago.. A Mechanic ran off with an Auto makers wife. And that is why, they make it so hard for mechanics to fix cars. Just saying..

He smashed up all the junk parts put them back in the box and returned them. Lol

Man, what an experience this was. It is as if the aftermarket guys don't have any engineers working for them on basic thickness measurements.
I bought my water pump from Ebay for $23 brand new. And it works great.
Hi, i need one Please send me the link from which you bought...
He got $22 of use out of it and then the whole engine catastrophically failed. Everyone knows you need to spend at least $24 for a water pump ✋

+Thomas Streetman Your fault for buying a chrysler product to begin with...

more old (young) Mr.O!
Factory water pump oem?
Part 2 😲
damn ive done so meny of these put i only use owa brand of water pumps never had any problems
when it comes to chryslers i always use oem stuff, and even then i run into problems sometimes with gaskets not lining up or seals that leak while being brand new, its just a shitty brand to work on
Any company that makes the water pump part of the god damn fucking timing chain, doesn't deserve my business.

What's that job worth ?
There another video said 600 dollar to replace water pump
Ok

Nick Nicu Lol nope so far so good on that baby :)
Can’t catch a break 🙄🤣

He said at that time: "I will give the cars for free if he had the monopoly on the parts".
Wtf kind of design is that? Have to remove the timing cover to change the water pump?? So when it leaks the coolant goes directly into the oil?!?
Yup, which then destroys the oil leading to catastrophic failure.

god i hope i never run into this problem
Kevin Rogers Just buy OE is all I can say

Sometimes... I think that a long time ago.. A Mechanic ran off with an Auto makers wife. And that is why, they make it so hard for mechanics to fix cars.
Just saying..
Do yourself a favor and don't buy a Chrysler.
