very nice, especially the little added info, such as what does volume vs surface do - nothing to heavy or distracting but really really valuable on the way to a better workflow. thank you!
Great video! I only started using Maya about 10 minutes ago with the sole purpose of making facial animations, and now I already feel like I know everything I need!
dude i just stumbled upon this video but you have such a good way of walking me through this. I usually never get anything out of tutorial vids but this is perfect, thanks so much!
@@robredman hitting the B key prevented me from visiting the settings lately, guess the shortcuts have their benefits and downsides, anyway thank you for this quick and really informative video, keep it up looking forward to watch your next video!
hallo, thanks! do you know why my character moves position to be where my blendshape is when i slide it on, no matter whether i choose pre or post animation or not in advanced menu when i create the blendshape? is it because i rigged the character's skeleton then made blendshapes?
Hello, good tutorial :) Why it didn't show the key frames from BlandShapes on the TimeSlider so I can edit them later? Or I can see them in Graph Editor?
Can the blendshape affect just a specific region? For instance, if I have a new body and want the expression I've done in an old version. Thanks for the video.
how would blendshapes work according to sphere? In blender rotating sphere is dramatic cuz the interpolation is linear, i wnat to know if there s a solution for maya users
Hey man i have a problem with my Maya animation Scene. When I key some blend shape channel, at the moment they seem to work. But after restarting the app, some of them are not responding properly. eg. If "O" is set at 1 my character does not even moves its mouth. Sometimes it is some other blend shapes. Any way of help is appreciated. Im close to taking a render and Now meeting with this problem is giving me a headache
Thank you for explaining, Sir. I have a doubt: When I'm modelling a full character, If I attach the head to the rest of body after applying 'blendshape' to the head for facial expressions... will it interfere with the blendshape when I attach by combining the head to the rest of body and merging the vertices? Sorry, I'm trying to learn blendshape for first time and this question popped up in my head...
Parasar Lenka Hi. Yes you are right. You need to create blend shapes last. If you change the polygon count or order it will mess with your blends. You could recess the head into a shirt or armour or something though and not directly connect. That could work in some cases.
@@robredman I see now.. The recess you said- I feel the parent-child relationship of the rest of body with outfit to head respectively should be the solution. Thank you so much again! You saved my day, Sir 🙏
Your best bet is to simply hide them. That way you can go back in and make adjustments as needed. Sometimes you will find that as you combine blend shapes they might interfere with each other and one will need tweaking.
rob redman Nice to hear that Rob.. Absolutely love your tutorials. 😊 Do you have any plans to release a tutorial for making a cartoon character, rigging and animating it? That's the one area where I think C4D lacks proper tutorials.
very slow video mate. I mean thanks for posting and all but these 13 minutes could have been 4 minutes and still have all the details. I almost fell asleep.
Sorry you didn’t like it. Keep in mind that some people might not have the same knowledge as you, so taking a bit of time to explain and set up can be useful for them.
@@robredman I understand and thanks again for all your work. Really appreciate it. I'm only suggesting that you could maybe split the videos and dedicate one thing per video. It might also be easier for people to find what they are looking for. I wouldn't know that there is more than just blendshapes in this video. Video title should describe what's included. Everything else might go to waste if people don't know about it.
6:57 to skip modeling.

Thanks
Very nice, not only efficient but also well explained and distinctly spoken!

Apparently blendshapes were used to animate all the characters in Crash Bandicoot. No bones!
обезательно нужно голову отдельно от тела. или можно как то тока полигоны размножать?
Hi, My character has no bones in The face so is that good to set blend shape and use it for facial animation
Thank you.
Max Nocivelli yes, absolutely! It’s perfect for bones free animation.
Thank you for explaining, Sir.

ultimatecinema Thanks so much!
In shape editor when i drag one blend shape to right, other one goes to 0
Thank you!
Thanks so much.
Could this be a tool for making a bruce banner to hulk transition? And could I use it with a muscles rig?
Yes you could do that and blend shapes work really well with other rigging tools.
Really appreciate it reply
Great Tutorial!
Can we delete the extra reference heads? Or will it mess up our blend shapes?
Your best bet is to simply hide them. That way you can go back in and make adjustments as needed. Sometimes you will find that as you combine blend shapes they might interfere with each other and one will need tweaking.
rob did you shift from C4D to Maya ? 😭😭
Nikhil Kumar Not at all. I use most apps. In fact I've been using maya much longer than c4d.
