Hey, just my opinion on the "so you want to play" series: you should only include games you are against "common" opponents and you go through imperial and show the late game options of the civ, being a complete showcase of what the civ is. Otherwise it becomes too generic of a gameplay (excluding the intro). I think that this way it would be more consistent to a guide/tutorial kind of video, even if you lose the game. I really liked the decision of commenting a played game though, made much more sense for this kind of series than playing live. I just wish you used more the fog of war so you would comment only on what we all see when playing. Everything else is excellent, you are the man, the only one really trying to make youtube content and not just posting recorded live gameplays. More tierlists coming soon? Thanks bro!
So you want to beat Hoang? Just have 300 APM and super micro to raid him and pick of vils amidst a sea of walls and spears while you dodge scorpion bolts, knights' swords, and don't die on the front. Also you can do this with Franks.
the weird thing is military micro is the only thing i really know how to do, it translates well from other games. if any of my games get to imp ill probably lose though.
Even though Hoang stops his vill production, gets like 7 villagers slaughtered, gets idle time back home, he’s still able to demolish the whole front of Heras base and ease his TC, ending up with a fight that’s actually pretty close. If he payed more attention and didn’t lose so many vills, the steamroll might as well have continued. Super scary stuff, I’m glad I’m not at this stressful level of Age gameplay.
"Franks are conveniently sitting at 54% winrate for a while now" "So, how do we nerf them?" "Oh, lets just reduce the early game food bonus a tiny bit and remove Treadmill Crane, i'm sure that will solve the problem at it's root." "Yeeaahh, suuure..."
Even back in the old days, one of my favorite plays was to open up with infantry because it was so underrated. My opponents basically had to guess when I would transition to knights. Most times I did but at a time advantageous to me. Some games though, I stayed away from cavalry because they kept building pikes thinking that the knights were coming
I actually spectated a Hoang match today against Teclis, who also went franks. The only difference is Teclis figured a spear war later on in the game was necessary, and it worked. Poor Hoang though, one little nerf to the celts completely screwed over his dark age play style lol.
Nice game but a lower level player would probably auto lose in feudal vs castle age units. Also maybe you should make a follow up Franks video showcasing their castle age , throwing axe thingies etc etc
The "so you want to play" series. It'd be great if you could also quickly go into what civs counter the one you're presenting. I used to be well over 1000 elo, but with the new Arabia being more open and cav civs getting a huge buff (esp. Turks) I really struggle vs cav civs, especially Franks which probably every second opponent takes and am not hovering around 930. I mostly fully wall and try a fast castle. But then Franks , with their sick eco bonuses get to castle age fast too and then hit me with cheap castles, gain map control and mass Knights+ ta's against halbs. It's very frustrating. Because they can counter everything. Does anyone have tips against Franks or Turks? I would greatly appreciate help. Obviously Indians seem a logic choice and I've tried byzantines and vikings.
I'm around 1100 and yes, you see Franks and Turks Scout Rush very often on this level. However, there are some immediate quick improvements you can apply: - place your mill rather a tile away, just like at the mining camp, and place palisades in between as soon as you have enough vills on it. This will minimize the damage from Scouts. - place spearmen nearthe lumbercamps and have them on the stand ground stance. This way they cant be lured away. - try another opening than Fast Castle, especially in 1v1 Arabia. In other words, use military and be aggressive yourself. First, I find Men-at-arms into Archers suitable against Scouts.Scouts lose 1v1 against Men-at-arms. Just make sure to mass some archers before engaging (I'd say 4 at least). Secondly, though I'm struggling with the execution, you should consider a Drush (Dark Age Militia Rush). Everytime I can pull it off and hit berries or wood line, the other low elo player struggles with his Build Order. A Drush with a lot of idle time in the berries or the woodline can significantly reduce the amount and speed of Scouts coming to your base. EDIT: Ah, forgot about recommending Civs. Although I think the tips above are somewhat universal. Lithuanians and Celts have faster Spearmen, which can help against Scouts. Vikings and Ethiopians Men-at-arms into Archers is very good (Ethiopians even have free Pikemen-Upgrade).
@@LightGreenCorona Hi Fabian, thanks a lot for your reply! I will definitely apply your tips and hopefully, I can improve. I guess another good way to climb up the ladder is to myself do scout rushes, but they really bore me. Currently, I am trying to improve my drush fc's and hit the berries with Militia. I guess my biggest problem is that I can get quite sloppy and find it hard to multitask (attack while navigating the delicate dark age). Also, my quick walls really suck and there is always a hole! haha. I really like the tip with pre-emptively build Palisades and take it from there. I only worry that I will be too boxed in then. . Anyway, thanks again for the tips and all the best.
I think that we stuggle more, when we do scout rush, in facing minute 5 full walled ennemies (pretty standard), what we should do if we planned a scout rush ? add towers, fast archers, or just go castle asap ?
U can just make 1-2 scouts, wall urself and go up to castle. Use the couple scouts to scout the whole map and spot relics and extra ressources for later
Wow! Thanks a lot for this video man! I really learned some new stuff. I have to say that I feel like franks have even more layers of complexity there since they have quite the number of options in late game. But the lack of hussars can hurt them in trash wars in late game since except for halbs they don't really have the answer for hussars. Or am I wrong?

Mr Hera, can we get an actual frank strategy? Like mass knights or castle drop or throwing axemen? Games against hoang dont count because he's such a unique player 11
See, I like the IDEA of Throwing Axemen - Franks are a Knight civ, and the Knight's greatest weakness is Pikes, and Pikes are countered by Throwing Axemen. But while Axemen counter Pikes, they don't quite counter them *hard*, nor do they feel like they mix well with Knights given how fast Knights can move around. I almost like Cav Archers better to pair with Knights, as the two can match speed, but without Bracer or Ring Archer Armor it's just not a fit.
No franks are simple lol make knights !!!?! Lol still gonna watch right away hera is the best Aoe2 player and commentator honestly T 90 better look out Hera is so good at explains things from the mind of a pro
I never usually go archer, usually go skirms because many opponents build archers, but I think I'll give it a try when appropriate. Sometimes I'll build 4-6 Cav Archers at start of Castle Age to mix in with knights. One fun eco strategy I do with Franks is always fast Feudal age and then build farms with the mill bonus. Then put all extra workers on wood, get axe upgrade, build market, and then fast castle. Once in Castle, you have a TON of extra wood that can be sold for gold which prevents opponent from getting the better gold price if he needs to trade for it.
Hera throwing axeman aren't HC, they're ranged champions. They do the same thing Champs do they just don't get hurt as much as so have much better turnover.
Throwing axeman is weak against archers. Champion is also weak but not as much as Throwing axeman. Throwing axeman resembles hand cannoneer more than Champion. Main difference is axemans are more tanky, cheaper and faster. On the other hand, hand cannoneer has more damage but it doesn't justify its weakness. In conclusion, Axemans is far stronger version of hand cannoneers.

You're actually right about the second part. Back in the days of age of kings bloodlines didn't exist so frank knights had 120 hp while other knights were stuck with 100. With The Conquerors expansion not only was bloodlines introduced, but so was halberdier to counter cavalry in the late game.
