I appreciate your tips and I've put them to use when I metal detect. Just yesterday I had a good signal on my machine, but something told me to bring my coil up further away from the plug, because the target was kind of big and I suspect a can, so I moved on from that target. Thank you!
For sure! I've developed quite an eye for finding the target in the plug. My wife saw me flip a plug once, & I put my pinpointer on the exact spot where the coin was. She was saying "How did you know?"

Another good to us to look for discolored soil. Silver usually has blackish looking soil around it.

Good tip! Clay based soil is good at making those coins stick to your shovel!
The first time it happened to me was about 8 years ago. Almost gave up on finding it!
