Amazing project! Those guns are readily available on aliexpress and other sellers, i was thinking about throwing someting together myself. I could never pull off something self built that looks as nice as this though! Great work! Maybe someday I'll find some unicab that i can mod with these guns :)
Hey Brad, big fan of your work you have truly inspired me to build a similar project for my family and I. Would like to share when it's done, I got the same guns and been using it with Tekno parrot until I noticed Demul shooter is the way to go. I'm currently stuck and could appreciate your help, Demul Shooter recognizes the guns but I don't know how the whole bat file works for example I'm trying to play Freight Fear Land (Haunted museum 2) but it looks like I'm missing the bat file? I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks, and looking forward to more of your videos!!
This collection should also really have for the Predestal Guns: Let's Go Jungle Let's Go Island Rambo Far Cry I have those on my pc with 2x AIMTRACK Guns they play perfect!
YOU ARE A GENIUS!!! Does it work with sensors? Did you try games like Terminator Salvation or Transformers or Aliens Armageddon or any other modern arcade shooting games?? Which games work for this setup? Insane, a true DREAM for me... JUST WOW!!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you! Salvation and Armageddon aren't available (yet) they both use USB dongles to real-time decrypt the games so getting a rom dump working will take some doing. But I have a few that I consider "modern" games. Aliens Extermination and Gundam Spirits of Zeon are both from 2006, Haunted Museum is from 2009, Transformers: Human Alliance is from 2013, etc. etc. And these aren't light guns, the act like analog joysticks, POTS in the base of each send X and Y axis movement to the on-screen crosshairs, so it works on any TV. Any Game/Emulator that can use Analog controls for AD Sticks or Lightgun controls inputs can use these guns
@@Brad-D Purely out of curiosity: Is that how the arcade versions worked? Only I've got an old Sniper Scope gun that I've been meaning to do something with, and this might be that!
If you look at the bottom-left of this page: service.globalvr.com/downloads/ffl/diagrams/power_dist_gun_games.pdf you will see the guns power harness diagram. Bit the wire color and even order isn't always the same when getting these guns from AliExpress. You need to be sure what wire is 12V, what wire is 24V, and what wire is Ground. Sometimes they are labeled and sometime you have to use trial and error by hooking up one wire at a time or using a continuity tester between a wire and the contacts on the lights (lights are 12V and the recoil is 24V). But once the wires are identified, just connect them to the correct voltage terminals in a power supply. I used this one and its working great: www.amazon.com/Arcity-Switching-Adjustable-Machine-Cocktail/dp/B07RT54H9V/ref=pd_lpo_23_t_1/133-4673328-7039818?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07RT54H9V&pd_rd_r=b21e34f7-27a1-4ad6-9344-fccffcd87b5f&pd_rd_w=rEbcG&pd_rd_wg=dp7j3&pf_rd_p=16b28406-aa34-451d-8a2e-b3930ada000c&pf_rd_r=ECHFRX49RB6S9KRZF0G5&psc=1&refRID=ECHFRX49RB6S9KRZF0G5

Hello from Argentina. This is awesome! I have been looking to build something like this for a while but now im convinced, those guns look sturdy. Would you share the frontend build? If that is the case, how much for the frontend build?
Hello friend. I just got 2 of these Aliens-guns, after watching you video. I have a question I hope you could help me with? The guns come with 3 cables. 1 usb connector. And one 1 pin power 12volt. And one 3 pin power 24volt cable. And not sure how to connected , and get power to the 1 and 3 pin connector. ? (For lighting and rumbling in the gun) Any advice on what power supply would work? Hope you got a answer? I’m lost :) Thanks.
The USB cable conveys all of the input to the computer and will also power the LED ammo counter The 12 V/24 V wires power, the other lights and the recoil The lights to 12 V, the recoil takes 24 V, and they share a ground So there should be a three wire harness wear one wire is 24 V, another wire is 12 oh, and the third wire is ground Here is the power supply I used Arcity 5V 12V 24V Output Arcade... www.amazon.com/dp/B07RT54H9V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@Brad-D was this one power supply enough to power both guns at the same time? Do you actually know how many amps are required? Also, what does the green wire?
That is really cool! I'm just curious, how is the aiming accomplished with those guns? I don't see any IR emitters around your screen and no Sinden border either, so what technology are they using?
Pedestal guns, like these are actually light guns. Some people call the X/Y guns. The up/down and left/right movements are picked up by potentiometers in the base and translated to ex and Y coordinates on screen They’re essentially to giant analog joysticks
@@Brad-D Very interesting. I had no idea. Thanks for the reply. I've been working on my own retro bat build for quite a while. Just ordered the retro shooter light guns to add to my multi-cade style pedestal.
awesome although i would prefer it without the fixed point but on a cable to power the force feedback lighting annd all that via light sensoring .... also that technicly you can play alone with both ... so i could be 1 player with 2 guns and half game over so you are still left with one ... haha

Brad, I a building my gun cart, very similar to yours, I have the shell done, and the mounts for the guns done. I could really use some help with the software though. I have never used Launchbox or Bigbox, and I don't know how to setup the controls or add games? Also, how did you decide on the distant between the gun mounts and the angle of them? I spaced mine farther apart than yours, and I picked an angle where all the way left was straight onto the screen (for left gun). My angle seems close to yours, but I didn't know why you had an angle so maybe I did it wrong?
These guns have USB interface is an automatic detected by windows as analog joysticks. I’m using a mix of emulators (MAME, TeknoParrot, Model2, etc.) to run all of my games. The front of that launches everything is called bigbox.
@@Brad-D Thanks, I want to build a system like yours! about the guns can you explain how did you configure it to show the ammo counter for each game? also to what PSU did you connect them? a guide for everything you did would be very appriciated. and a link to buy them? I found a lot on aliexpress but don't know which one to choose, also a guide on how to setup all the games with the software you said.. I really want to build this. thanks a lot in advance!
I gifted this cart to my brother (huge Aliens fan) And my schedule/workspace doesn't really making building commission viable. But I'm happy to offer advise and share build techniques/software scripting! Hey Brad, when you plug in the usb does the PC recognize the positional gun as a standard USB mouse and allow cursor control? If so, do some of the buttons act like a left and right mouse click? Seeing if one of these would serve for another project. Thanks!
No these are detected as analog joysticks, not pointing devices. For games that require pointing devices, I use either Demulshooter to override the input or JoyToKey to emulate a mouse
@@Brad-D I was seeing if I could somehow double this up to use in place of a usb mouse on PlayStation 2 original hardware for the Silent Scope series (really just a curious experiment) as that game doesn’t support light guns on ps2(controller and usb mouse only). I’ve got the Xbox version with the gun but results vary and screen brightness is cranked up (not a traditional light gun in the sense). I’m wondering if anyone has made some sort of converter from analog joystick to mouse. I really should be doing more productive things 🤣.
@@Brad-D sorry, I meant getting to work with PlayStation 2 hardware itself. I did some digging and think I can achieve this with an Arduino Micro and their mouse library!
Good afternoon. consult How could you add buttons and lever? Any external interface? Since the guns only come with a USB, which would be player 1, but how can you add buttons so that the emulator recognizes everything as a controller?
Looking at getting these guns. On aliexpress there are cheaper blue and pink guns. Do you know if the mamehooker device codes for recoil and led would work on them too?
Hello my friend! Excellent work! I just have a small question. Did you use just a 24volt single power supply or 2 seperate to make it all work? I was reading that it needs a 12volt and a 24 volt to run the LED lighting plus the recoil.... please advise me. Thankyou kindly
The guns do need both 12v (for the lights) and 24v (for the recoil) I installed one power supply and spit it out to both guns. Most power supplies can supply multiple Voltages, I got one that had both 12v and 24v outputs.
@@Brad-D hey bro I seen the link you provided for that power supply you used in a comment below... but it only has 1 output for 24v and 1 output for 12v. So did you split each output into two seperate connections? So the 24 volt split to each gun and same with the the 12v? And if so, then how did you do it? Did you have to solder/cut wires to perform this task?
@@deceptionz187 yes, I spilt each out to the two guns. If you look at the cut-away showing the power supply wired up in this video, you will see a single set of wire coming off the power supply the. It goes to a Molex Y-cable that I spliced into the guns power wires

I haven’t, no. But your results may vary because not all suppliers build these to the same quality spec. If it really starts becoming a problem, you always have the option to open up the shell and replace the solenoid with something higher quality/newer
Since this gun works natively on Aliens Extermination and FarCry, have you tested Frightfearland yet, since that techincally is a GlobalVR game, to see if the recoil natively works with it as well? Just curious. Thx
I did but it did not :( must be a specific version. There is also versions of Aliens Armageddon and House of the Dead 3 that supports these guns out there somewhere, but the versions available online for these games don't work with these guns natively. There are some very smart people who have figured out how to use mamehooker to send the recoil signal to the guns for some other games but it's still a work in progress

Thank in advance for taking the time to read this.
The loose green wire is another ground for static discharge The guns barrel lights start working after the gun has been “activated” It’s the same with the LED amount counter. These become active after you hit start in Aliens Extermination (since that game send commands to the guns lights/ammo LED, and recoil) Once activated though, the barrel lights up whenever the trigger is pulled in any game. But once power is cut, they stay off until “activated” again. Note: while the barrel lights work whenever the trigger is pull (after initial activation) the recoil only works when getting a signal from a supported game such as Aliens Extermination or FarCry. Meaning the recoil won’t work in other games.
@@Brad-D Thank you for the reply, unfortunately in my case the led strip doesn't work even after the game activates the ammo counter, recoil and etc, did you have the green wire connected or floating?
Another thing to note, i already opened up the gun to check if the led strip works, and with direct connection to 12v it works just fine, just not via the trigger for some reason.
@@F0xHole I connected the loose green wire to one of the Ground terminals on the power supply. that's so odd about your barrel lights. The game(s) themselves have to send a signal to the guns for them to recoil, if the game in question that you're playing never used these types of guns in the arcade they won't send the required signals.
@@deceptionz187 you're right :) but to get these specific guns to recoil natively the game had to use these exact "Aliens" guns. Such as FarCry Paradise Lost or Fear Freight Land. Other Pedestal Gun Games, Like LA Machineguns for example, wouldn't make these guns recoil either. @@Brad-D yes that is correct. So... wouldnt you like to make all your rail shooter games work with recoil? There is a way you know.... but Im surprised you havent figured it out yet.. I recently found out myself from my Arcade builder
The barrel lights activate with the ammo counter. Both stay inactive until you go into a globalVR game that can activate them. So I open Aliens or Farcry first. Then when in game, I press P1 and P2 start. This initiates the LED amount counter and barrel lights. Once activated, the barrel lights stay active until power is turned off again and will light up when ever you pull the trigger in any game But not that, even if activated, The ammo counters and recoil still only work in global VR games like Aliens and Farcry

@@eliotcole Maybe!
most games with mounted guns were analog like mine, but a few still used lightgun tech and will only work on a real CRT monitor

Any tutorials at all? The wiring in particular would be amazing. Awesome stuff 👏👌👍
If you look at the bottom-left of this page:
service.globalvr.com/downloads/ffl/diagrams/power_dist_gun_games.pdf
you will see the guns power harness diagram.
I used this one and its working great:

Hello from Argentina. This is awesome! I have been looking to build something like this for a while but now im convinced, those guns look sturdy. Would you share the frontend build? If that is the case, how much for the frontend build?
Hello friend.
I just got 2 of these Aliens-guns, after watching you video.
I have a question I hope you could help me with?
The guns come with 3 cables. 1 usb connector. And one 1 pin power 12volt. And one 3 pin power 24volt cable.
And not sure how to connected , and get power to the 1 and 3 pin connector. ? (For lighting and rumbling in the gun)
Any advice on what power supply would work?
Hope you got a answer? I’m lost :)
Thanks.
The USB cable conveys all of the input to the computer and will also power the LED ammo counter
The 12 V/24 V wires power, the other lights and the recoil
The lights to 12 V, the recoil takes 24 V, and they share a ground
So there should be a three wire harness wear one wire is 24 V, another wire is 12 oh, and the third wire is ground
Here is the power supply I used

@@Brad-D Thank you so much , for the quick reply! I just bought one now. Is there any think I should know more? Before getting started?
@Brad-D was this one power supply enough to power both guns at the same time?
Do you actually know how many amps are required? Also, what does the green wire?
Excellent!!!
That is really cool! I'm just curious, how is the aiming accomplished with those guns? I don't see any IR emitters around your screen and no Sinden border either, so what technology are they using?
Pedestal guns, like these are actually light guns. Some people call the X/Y guns.
The up/down and left/right movements are picked up by potentiometers in the base and translated to ex and Y coordinates on screen
They’re essentially to giant analog joysticks

Nice video! can you explain how did you build it, what software are you using? what software interface for all the games etc..? thanks..
I always thought they were light guns, just big joysticks!
Yup!
Wow! Just Wow! Big Kudos to you Sir! Would you make one on commission or sell that one?
I gifted this cart to my brother (huge Aliens fan) And my schedule/workspace doesn't really making building commission viable. But I'm happy to offer advise and share build techniques/software scripting! I know at least one other person (in the UK) who has made their own version of this cart (and greatly improved on it aesthetically) and I helped him get it wired up and configured via DM's
@@Brad-D Thank you very much for the response and the offer to help! I really appreciate it! I also currently don’t have the time or the workspace, but I will definitely let you know if I do take on that project. I would love to have it. Thanks again!
@@Brad-D thanks for the reply!

Yup
Just be sure you are getting the version with USB. There is another set that wire up via an interface board instead of USB (don't get those)
Hello my friend! Excellent work! I just have a small question. Did you use just a 24volt single power supply or 2 seperate to make it all work? I was reading that it needs a 12volt and a 24 volt to run the LED lighting plus the recoil.... please advise me. Thankyou kindly
The guns do need both 12v (for the lights) and 24v (for the recoil)
I installed one power supply and spit it out to both guns.
Most power supplies can supply multiple
Voltages, I got one that had both 12v and 24v outputs.

Yeah, there is a recoil solenoid in each gun :)
you can adjust the amount of recoil in the Game options for each game that supports it
Hi Brad, just curious if you've ever noticed any overheating or slowing down with these solenoids after a while of constant rapid fire playing?
I haven’t, no. But your results may vary because not all suppliers build these to the same quality spec.
If it really starts becoming a problem, you always have the option to open up the shell and replace the solenoid with something higher quality/newer
Since this gun works natively on Aliens Extermination and FarCry, have you tested Frightfearland yet, since that techincally is a GlobalVR game, to see if the recoil natively works with it as well? Just curious. Thx

These guns were originally used in a number of different arcade games.

But later ones just had the guns connect fire t to the PC via USB
You can find both versions of the guns (usb and I/O board) on Ali express nowadays

Thats badass where did u buy guns from?
I found a loose pair of guns on eBay, but they sell them on aliexpress too:

@@Brad-D do they have a plug n play time crisis one?
@@kevinthorn9672 No, but Check out my videos on my lightgun cabinet build. That uses Aimtrak lightguns and is much better for Time crisis than these pedestal guns would be
How did you get the PC to remember which controller is which? My big box mame pc randomly assigns USBs so sometimes p2 is p1 and vice versa.
You can force mame to map the controls in a specified order based on their hardware ID’s
I talk about how this is done in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/7uQWw-tdSi8/v-deo.html
I also got that gun and i have a few questions. The 3 pin molex connector is 12/24/gnd wires, but do you know what the external green wire is for? furthermore, the led strip on the sides doesn't work for me when i press the trigger like yours, did you have to do something to make it work? Thank in advance for taking the time to read this.
The loose green wire is another ground for static discharge
The guns barrel lights start working after the gun has been “activated”
It’s the same with the LED amount counter.
These become active after you hit start in Aliens Extermination (since that game send commands to the guns lights/ammo LED, and recoil)
Once activated though, the barrel lights up whenever the trigger is pulled in any game.
But since you have the shell open, maybe you could just wire them up to the same 12v power that goes to the button light bulbs and put a contact switch on the trigger. That way they would always light up even if the gun wasn't activated first
@@Brad-D thanks for the reply. Yeah, that's pretty much what i thought about doing too, but i just didn't understand why it wouldn't work like it should even though i didn't find any issues with my multimeter with the wiring.
How much if you build one for me, let me know, thanks
Probably around $800-$900 with materials. There is also a panel you can get to slide the guns into for around $100. It makes it easier to mount.
Hey there, I just bought those guns (USB version) BUT how do I set the controlls of the gun in teknoparrot ? (like the trigger and the 2 other buttons) ?
The same way you would for any other game in TeknoParrot.
Just be sure to go into game option and set the control to Direct Input (not Xinput)
Then you can go to controller settings and map everything.
These guns should be recognized as direct input analog joysticks with buttons
@@Brad-D Thanks, the buttons work now (trigger, flame and grenade) but the movment of the gun (the cursor) doesn't work.. like it's stuck in the middle, any idea how to set it up?

Would you be willing to clone the drive / send a full set up configuration (I'd pay you for the time and trouble)
Do you have any insight as to why ONLY those 3 games have recoil functionality? Have you tried Transformers or Rambo or House of the Dead 4 with it?
The game(s) themselves have to send a signal to the guns for them to recoil, if the game in question that you're playing never used these types of guns in the arcade they won't send the required signals.
@@Brad-D lol. There are quite a few arcade games that use these types of guns. Funny enough, House of the Dead 3 used pistols in the arcade.
@@deceptionz187 you're right :)
but to get these specific guns to recoil natively the game had to use these exact "Aliens" guns. Such as FarCry Paradise Lost or Fear Freight Land.
Other Pedestal Gun Games, Like LA Machineguns for example, wouldn't make these guns recoil either.
Games that didn't use these Aliens gun need to have some extra software sending the correct signals to activate recoil.
For example, My copy of House of the Dead 3 doesn't send any recoil signal to these guns because I don't have the version of House of the dead that was indented for the "bundle" of games that was sold with those 3 in 1 Bundles that had a (non USB) version of these guns

Can you provide instructions?
How did you get the Led strip in the barrel of the gun to work?
The barrel lights activate with the ammo counter.
Both stay inactive until you go into a globalVR game that can activate them.
So I open Aliens or Farcry first. Then when in game, I press P1 and P2 start.
This initiates the LED amount counter and barrel lights.
Once activated, the barrel lights stay active until power is turned off again and will light up when ever you pull the trigger in any game
But not that, even if activated, The ammo counters and recoil still only work in global VR games like Aliens and Farcry

Great stuff! What is the dimensions of the unit?
with the guns, it's about 4 feet tall and a little over 2 feet wide
@@Brad-D awesome man! Sorry to keep asking you questions.. I have no clue how you got the recoil to work.. I bought the same transformer and power plug.. but the y splitter is a 4 pin.. but the gun is a 3pin molex? Is it possible you can list the parts or can I email you? Just need that to work and transformers on Teknoparrot and I’m all set!
@@nickjones4543 I used the same MOLEX connection but I'm just not using the 4th wire on it for anything.
I cut the stock connector off the gun's wire harnesses and spliced the 3 wires into 3 of the 4 wires on the Molex connector.
NOTE: just double checking that you know the recoil is only supported by Arcade games that originally used these guns (Aliens Extermination, FarCry, etc.)
You can play any game with them, but there will be no recoil (or Ammo LED counter support)
@@Brad-D understood thanks! Did you have to solder the wires into the 4 pin molex?
@@nickjones4543 yup
And do you have a list of compatible games to hand?
The recoil only works with the couple of games originally intended for these guns. But The sky is the limit for playing other gun games (without recoil) If a game/emulator can recognize an Analog joystick, then it will recognize these guns.
@@Brad-D thanks again for the reply! I hope recoil can work with other games in future but atleast there are plenty of games available to play.
