Goal Achieved: The Most Perfectly Restored Eagle Talon (DSM)!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- This 1992 Eagle Talon had one goal when restored - to make it the most complete and perfect one on the planet. Every square inch has been meticulously redone and no expense and time spared to make it a show piece. The work and parts collection and refinement took 14 years to achieve. With recently finishing the restoration it received two awards at its first showing. Judges looked at every aspect of it and marked it perfect all around.

You know what be cool is to take this to Jay Leno's garage and have him to a show on it. This would help the DSM community big time and get more people motivated in DSMs.
YES!!!
You can’t get anymore mint than this.
Can't hardly find Evos this mint either.
EXCELLENT job man. This brings back a FLOOD of memories lol. I had a 2g to start out with just bolts, 16g, and a Hallman MBC. Also had 1g CAS which let it pick up significant power. fwd peg leg burnout to a 13.1@112 mph with no tuning system and a 1g side mount IC lol. So wish I would've started with an awd 1g! Ended up in the second Evo to be sold in the state of Idaho. Crashed it unfortunately and got a 2005 Evo which I still have. Thanks for making and posting this! Brought back warm memories.
@@bryangibson2788 it makes me happy knowing the video sparked some fond memories of the cars back in the day. Good on you still having an Evo!
It is my dream to own a 1st generation Talon tsi awd, but have it in Europe where I live
Anyone else notice it has a 1G 1990-1991 flip headlights/front end with a 2G 1992-1994 rear end/tail lights. I did as i had a 91 and a 92 talon way back when
REMINDS ME OF MY 91 ECLIPSE SAME COLOR I MISS THAT DANG CAR SHOULD HAVE KEPT IT
My first car was a '92 Talon TSi AWD. What a blast!
my uncle used to have a 91 eclipse. i fell in love with cars after that..beautiful restoration 👏🏽
My friends brother had one in high school and used to scare the sh!t out of me in the snow and ice of MN. Steve Olsen… I remember!
Dude the parts on this car are a blast from the past. Love it.
Hell yeah.
This is mint! I wish there was more support for restoration then there is. Sort of similar to my 95 escort GT. There are no parts available unless you want to go race parts!
I would love to own one just to hold on to and drive occasionally but they’re stupid expensive for being clapped out or the good ones are rare.
I’m amazed!!..The quality to this build/restoration is next level!!… how much would something like this cost??
I would love to restore mine one day (have a 1ga tsi white with black top and a red 2g gst)
@@orez0evitagen437 thank you for noticing the detail. If you go over to BringATrailer you can see the record price it went for a couple of years ago when I auctioned it.
Amazing build 🔥 hopefully the right person picks it up, I work at Barrett Jackson, wish I could see more cars like this come through
What a cool job you have Ricardo. I wouldn’t have thought Barrett Jackson would host cars like this one. I suppose it is time it does. Is it worth looking into?
My fav car, them and the Eclipse...had a 91' and a 94' Eclipse throughout HS...was soooo much fun... LMK if ya ever want to sell?! : ) ; )
Thank you. I sold it on BringATrailer for a record price last year. It’s taken care of by the new owner now.
I am finishing up a 91 GSX with a stage 1-2 Team Rip drive train and 4 bolt rear-end. Looking for clear parking and signal lights from front like you have, any ideas???
Keep looking in market place DSM groups. As everything, those are getting very hard to find. I do see them come up once in a while. If you see them for sale, don’t hesitate to buy them as they will be sold quickly.
Absolute perfection. My dream dsm
Great to hear Blvk. It will be on Bring A Trailer soon so your dream could come true! :)
Beautiful car, brings back great memories... you did a great restoration! Thank you for sharing
You are very welcome and happy you enjoyed the video.
I have a 1998 Eagle Talon Tsi that I want to fully restore. Would you be interested in helping me?
You can find my email in the “about” section when using UA-cam on a PC.
What are the offset of your wheels? 17x8" I assume? I'm looking at the same set...thanks
Yes, 17 x 8 with 40 offset. Wheels are Enkei Kojin in Matte black wrapped with Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires 225/45ZR17.
Very nice!!! Well done. I would of preferred of keeping the 1GB front end however
Fair enough. Some love the pop ups and some don’t. The pop ups lights capture the era of the car well.
No fog lights. I used a vrsf fmic to keep my fogs. I personally like it and more visible at night.
There are lights there. Have a look at 0:40. Or maybe you mean keep stock for lights which wouldn’t fit with the FMIC I used. I do agree having some sort of light there is important both functionally and aesthetically.
Seeing the thermal exhaust brings me back to the early 2000s!
Best sounding exhaust on these cars
I agree whole heartedly it’s the newer sounding and flowing to this day. Thank you Sarah.
@@SlippingTime Love these cars! Really wish Mitsubishi didn’t abandon performance cars.
I would own another DSM or EVO, but these days it’s really hard to keep them on the road. Transmission parts are getting rare or impossible to find! :(
@@sarahdell4042 so true. Transmissions parts and glad are getting very difficult as the top two. With that said Sarah it isn’t impossible. If it gives you joy and fits in your life balance then I say go pick one up and enjoy it. 🤩
Only thing not factory looking would be the seats and the sunroof but man that's clean
Thank you. The seats are actually factory seats that I recovered with faux leather matching the interior two tone colors.
looks absolutely unreal, would hope to have mine looking like this one day. do you know where one can find a new 1g windshield in canada ?
Thank you Riley. I wish there was a place for windshields. Unfortunately if you can’t find some place that has some old stock in a back corner they are impossible to find.
Amazing 🤩 thank goodness it’s blue 🔥‼️🙏🏻
Thank you MINGO TRD. I do agree the color does it well.
@@SlippingTime When I buy that white GSX after she’s all done ✅ I’m changing my name back to Mingo4g63🤘🏼
1ga with a 1gb rear end, nice
Absolutely beautiful! Lots of respect for the achievement!
Thank you for the kind words.
How come you didn’t do evo brembos?
This is my dream car!
Great question Joseph. For the goals of the car at the time the 1g big brakes were adequate.
My first car ever 93 talon. Timing belt broke n had the engine rebuilt. I loved that car. Some guy stopped me in the middle ofnthe road n wanted to buy my mud flaps of me. Lol
Another cool story shared. Thank you!
@@SlippingTime n obviously that car is an absolute GEM.
Wow
I can't believe you were able to find so many of these parts.
It did take some effort to find them plus some was out of hindsight many years ago once parts started going extinct.
Would you ever sell the car? I'm very interested
Thanks for the interest. I sold it about a year ago on Bring a Trailer.
I still have a new in box 1G dsm speedo insert with 1KM on it. Dont know the part number from top of my head. Hit me up if interested. Also a set of Mb590046 spoiler brackets 1Gb dsm
I had 3 that's how much I loved the talon in my teen years.
Hey..I have a 90 Mitsu Eclipse GSX and and would like to restore mine and pick your brain if I could.
Absolutely love your car. How much are you asking for it?
Thank you blue95stang1. At this point I am open to offers.
@@SlippingTime I would love to give you a proper offer. Challenge is and I am sure you know already, your buyer will have to be a cash in the bank already buyer. As banks won’t loan monies for the amounts you deserve since it’s not a new car. Prolly really tuff for them to have low risk on a loan. I also wonder what insurance companies would ensure it for to try to have full coverage if you put it on a highway. Although it really is a new car with everything you have done to it in the restore. Absolutely awesome build. Wish I had started putting cash away as long as you have been investing and buying parts in the car. I know I will be calling the bank Monday to see what kind of loan a guy can get on that car these days and that way I can at least say I tried!
I had a metal ball shifter too... bad idea in the summer time.... I felt like what the burglars did on Home Alone touching the door handle..
I haven’t found them too bad. Black ones would be no for sure though. A round ball is my preference for shifting.
whered you find all the parts for this?? I can't find anything for my 1g GST
I collected a lot through the years including parts cars. In some cases I got the last new parts from Mitsubishi or Chrysler. It’s getting pretty tough these days for sure.
@@SlippingTime did you just look for parts for the talon ?

Those are pretty much unicorns now in new condition. Keep an eye out on Facebook marketplace and auto wrecker yard is probably your best bet. Best of luck in your search.
Definitely the cleanest 1g dsm on the road🥵
Thank you Emperor Gsx.
Naw man you should of used the OEM Mitsubishi oil filter instead of K&N.
I used to have a 1991 black and white. Amazing vehicle. ❤
I dunno 🤷♂️ this guy seems a lil shady…….jk
Been a long time since I seen one of these.
NOOOO don't sell it, why?
I have a video on why. Sold a year and half ago for a record price that holds still today for a DSM.
Can you post more info on your a/c setup?
I am using a SPAL fan.
Nice car. I’ve never seen someone do a 1ga front on a 1gb. Very tastefully modified. I’ve recorded a badass 1ga talon along with some evos on my channel too. I love DSM’s.
Thank you for the nice comment. I am checking out your channel!
always i thought ive had with mine but have never seen it done, the bank account is about to be drained after seeing this video the 1ga front end on the 1gb
Used to see a lot of these cars on the street back in the day. Also the Plymouth version
They are a rare sighting these days that’s for sure.
Nice car, far from a restoration, and it "needs a tune" classic DSM.
Haha. I could tune it, but don’t want to risk getting a rock chip driving if. I will let the next owner deal with the first chip and scratch. :)
A complete mixmaster of 1g DSM
Mine looks just like that but it has the 1g rear too which I like better . If o can send pics you’d probably say that it does look like that one
Got my dad fwd 92 eagle ,sucks when everyone assumes its a awd😔
Where do I send you the wire?.
It sold a little later on. You can see the sale here ua-cam.com/video/2lWp6VtdrHk/v-deo.html

Thank you Leo. I am pleased you like how it turned out.
Watching this auction on BAT in the last 5 min is like being at the movies 🍿
the carputer is freeking awesome!!!
Yes, it does work well.
What is the offset on those wheels if you don’t mind me asking 🤔
The wheels are Enkie Kojin 17x8 +40
Cool thanks!
Beautiful job you'll get your money worth on this one. Love the details of the whole project.
Thank you. It sold on bring a trailer a while back.
I saw that WOW good deal too
I will be taking both interior panelling off both my cars and switching to one... As well as exterior window trim, door trim and molding.... What if any recommendations for doing these jobs and or tricks and tools that best work for this? I do not want to mess up my good parts parts going on the build as I am sure you understand. LOL
Take your time in removing the trim. The most difficult one is the bottoms exterior edge of the window to remove. It bends really easy when prying. Use proper trim removal tools to be safe. And careful not to bend or dent of the metal pieces.
When my ex-wife and I met in 1996, she had a 1991/92 Eagle Talon (it was a dark racing green if I remember correctly). We had it through the first couple years of our marriage along with my truck. I always thought the interior looked like a cockpit. It was a fun car. You did a great job with that beauty... an amazing restoration. Bravo. 👍 👏
Thanks you Robert. I loved hearing your story. The 1g DSM and Supra were the best cars in making a cockpit style where the Driver is what mattered.
This is an amazing build, so meticulous, and a perfect tribute to the first gen DSMs. Did you end up selling it? It reminds me of the recent Evo build that @jackbuildsit just finished, also frame-off down to the bolts.
Thank you for the appreciation of the craziness I put into it. I have been watching Jack’s build too. I sure did sell it for a record DSM price on BaT. World Record Price for Eagle Talon! Most Expensive DSM ever sold!
ua-cam.com/video/2lWp6VtdrHk/v-deo.html
Absolutely love the front end 1Gb to 1Ga conversion! I plan on doing the same to my '94 eventually 👍
Yes, I think it is a great combination of what should have been.
I have a 1A looking to go to 1B wanna swap parts!? lol
@@Pnode88 Where are you located 😂 I'm in Colorado
Too bad , after market pop up sunroof, killed the oem look.
Did all the four bolt rears have a sticker on them? The four bolt in my 91 has a sticker that I saved when I painted it.
Yes all diffs either three bolt or four had stickers. I was going to preserve it, but it was marked up too much and took away from the rest of the car.
Amazing build.
Honestly with how pristine the car is in i think you could get right around 35k US. Do you have a idea as to what your going to be asking?
I will have a reserve on it for sure. As you can tell I have a lot of expense put into the car not even counting my hundreds of hours of doing all the work. I appreciate your suggestion of what the market might pay for it. I do agree it is quite special since it can never be duplicated again as the parts can never be found again new as I got the last of many I used on the car.
Why would you put a 91 front end on a 92?
Even your nuts and bolts had to be new and oem Mitsubishi hardware no aftermarket Ace Hardware. So after all said and done what was the total cost of restoring the car to better than brand new?
Let just say I didn’t make much money when selling it for a record price on BringaTrailer 😀. And countless hours of labour.
Its not about making money on it. Its the passion you put into it and doing it right. I'm the same way when i work on my DSM. All the money you put into it your not going to get all that back, you know that.@@SlippingTime
@@1998gst4611 my videos explain why I sold if. I built it as my own with no intention to sell it. Once it was done, I had some reasons I sold it. Been in the game since DSM’s came out and still have my 1990 I bought new!
bought my 92 GSX back in October 97 from a used car lot dealer. I think I paid over 10 grand for it, had it finance with annual rate of 28% interest and yes i know that's high but it was my first car i bought on my own without a consigner, I was 27at the time.@@SlippingTime
Awww man, don't take this the wrong way, excuses, excuses, and excuses@@SlippingTime
Work of art, amazing work Dean!
Thank you Jason for the kind words.
Where can I find new door and hatch seals?
Unfortunately those are unicorn pieces these days. All you can do is scour the parts cars and hope you find decent ones. The hatch seal is the hardest one to find in mint shape. I have no good spares of those left myself.
@@SlippingTime that stinks lol. Hopefully I can find a decent set of used ones somewhere
@@chrispulieri9543 don’t give up. Perseverance is key. They will turn up eventually. Sometimes marketplace will have some too.
Well deserved those prize. Amazing job!
Thanks as always Saulo.
Very Nice 😁
Think it’s worth north of $30k usd if you ask me
I am interested for sure what the market will pay. I have a lot invested in it to get it this way that is for sure.
That's not restored. That's modified. There's a SMALL difference.
Perhaps Resto-mod. I took it in a sense of stripping the car and rebuilding it from the ground up.
@@SlippingTime And the result is SUPERB! I just say is not accurate definition. Congratz and enjoy that gem.

Nice job!
Hello from Alberta, amazing job brother!!! I'm floored at the all the attention you put in to this dying car. I'm your new biggest fan!!!

@@SlippingTime and stand out it does. I'm truly in awee. Stellar job and definitely deserves every award!! Congrats on an incredible dsm.
A beautiful car. Great job on it! 👍🏽
Thank you.
Wow beautiful talon. I want to paint my 2g gsx that same color. Can u help me out with the paint code for that color?
The paint code is from the 1g’s and the original color of this car. The name is Electric Blue Metallic Clearcoat and the code is B35/PC3. Back in the 90’s blue didn’t sell like it does now so it is rare to see them.
@@SlippingTime yea i very rarely see dsms factory painted in blue. Its a beautiful color. Thanks so much for the help
Should pull some good numbers, there's a few out there with with extremely low km. Guy I bought parts from in airdrie ab had a 96 talon awd with like 50k km on it and he sold it for serious money.
That is some very low mileage.
@@SlippingTime I don't know how he sold it that's for sure, just like I don't know how you can sell the blue 92, one of the best colors they came in. I've watched a few mint garage kept very low mile 1g's in the states sell the last few years and they've been selling for 10-18k. But with the market now.....sky's the limit. DSM's finally seem to be getting to that point the prices are on the climb in general, something people said would never happen but I'm sure glad it is....#savetheeclipse
@@robbalinski1606 yes, I think the rarity of finding decent ones and rediscovery of their significance is getting them attention. Once we seen them always in the road and now we hardly see them. People miss it.
I love where you out the coil packs =)
Thank you. I did something similar years ago in my 90 and then did this one even better when building it knowing it would go there.
WOW Dean..... That is a beautiful car. It looks excellent. 👍 I would love to pick your brain on where you were able to get some of the specific parts you have. I have a 92 Laser RS AWD with a 90 eclipse parts car that has MINT interior to donate as well as trim pieces around windows and such.
Great job.
Thank you Wade. Unfortunately a lot of the parts I found I got the last of and collected over the years in making this car what it is. Reconditioning parts is now becoming the best way for cosmetic stuff.
@@SlippingTime OK, well I would venture to guess then that my parts car I have has the next closest thing to new trim and interior that I will be able to find. I am glad I bought that car then. I have never seen better trim pieces on a DSM till your video. As far as the mechanical parts. I still need to get a clutch for my build, and exhaust, and AC lines as I want my AC to work as well. The previous owner "CUT" the AC lines out. 🥺.
Aside from swapping interior and trim I need to get body work and paint done. I should have a nice build comparing pretty much all other DSM cars. That is..... ASIDE from your immaculate build.
@@wadestanion4617 such nice comments. Sounds like you are taking the time to do it right. Good on you. Please share the process and results with the community if you can. We would love to see it!
@@SlippingTime Ha... So much time. I bought my 92 in 07' from some kid that blew the head gasket. Warped the head too. I robbed an injector off at some point for my other car at the time. It had been sitting out in the field for some time, like an idiot.... It ruined the pornstar red interior and paint and trim etc. It is now in a sealed shipping container as well as the parts car for almost 2 yrs now. In that 2 yrs, I have acquired that 90 eclipse, and had the block, head, trans etc done. It needs the block rust proofed/painted. I have POR 15 stop rust kit. Not sure if that is the best option? Anyhow, that is where I'm at. I also picked up someone elses engine build and parts from that. However the block ended up being a "drag block" which he didn't inform me of. Oh well.
Absolutely stunning 😮!
Thank you Eric.
Thanks for sharing i love it
You are welcome Victor and thank you for loving it!
Who made the Eagle Talon emblem in the grill? I've been trying to find a decent one for a while
I had a local sign place make it. They use some type of resin that sets. Unfortunately I went to get another one made for another car this summer and they said the resin was discontinued an no more. 😔
@@SlippingTime oh no. Maybe we can find someone to make them
@@SlippingTime is the 92-94 different?
@@chrispulieri9543 yes. The 92-94 is larger than the 90-91.
Absolutely flawless! I just bought a 94 Talon tsi awd myself though it needs a lot of work. There's no engine or transmission but those things can be sourced. Having a good platform to start from in the first place is the key and after a long time of searching I came across an amazing example. My Talon only has 75k on it and she's solid as a rock. I can't wait to get her on the road. Lol
You are so correct Steven, you need a good specimen before tackling something like this project. I am happy you found one. And yes, the power train bits are the easy part to get for these cars now compared to a clean body. All the best in the project!
