In a clinic I was in, I remember he said about a Jazz Bass he had (I guess its the same one we see here) That it was passive and he had to really crank the amp to make it cut through and he didn't like that much.
Alain Caron … the Jaco of Canada. Listen to tunes like penny arcade (live with Mike brecker), bellas lullaby, spacey country, noisy nights, and any tune where he shines on the fretless, and not to mention lives solos like this; You’ll see, a totally under appreciated master
Great find..this gig is known and the video of it is out there somewhere..this segment however is usually left out or is missing..I spoke to Alain years ago about this bass, he called it his FENDER copy bass..he couldn't remember the brand but said during his session period in Montreal, producers would always ask him to bring it along or ask him to go and get it for the date he was on..
The loss of Doug Rauch really makes me wonder if he'd lived what we would have heard. Caron is definitely a great player although he's a bit obscure outside of Canada or Europe.
I love Alain Caron, but I believe you'll find that the first recording of double thumb was Marcus Miller on "Run For Cover," on David Sanborn's 1981 album, 'Voyeur'. If you play the studio track, he double thumbs the descending line at around 18 seconds in. A better version is on Sanborn's 1985 live album, 'Straight To the Heart'. I never saw footage of Alain with a Jazz Bass before; thanks for the footage!
@@uzitzoref8346 There's video on UA-cam via searching "Run for Cover - David Sanborn and Marcus Miller" from the same year, 1985. Oddly filmed in black and white, but it's glorious. Enjoy.
Uzeb recorded ‘Brass Licks’(the song in this video) in 1982 on their first studio album so that’s basically the same time as ‘Run For Cover’, and I don’t remember Marcus Miller doing double thumping like Caron does here at that time anyways.

I've never seen Alain Caron play bass other than F-Bass before. Thank you for the video 😊
I first saw him in 1982 and he played that same jazz copy bass for ‘Brass Licks’ and one other slap tune.
Great sounding bass.
Alain Caron playing a jazz bass with Di Marzio pickups!wow

I remember this clip... great Canadian guys dropping fusion bombs
Dough Rauch already did double thumbing in 1975 and Larry Graham also on the 70's so I guess they were the first....
