@@Tory-JJ yep. Valve knows how to design a MOBA well. If you look at League, most of the scaling of champions are based on how the abilities scale in relation to passive attributes from items and stuff like on hit. Theres little to no complexity in item builds in terms of utility or any creative expression with builds. You just kind of buy the item to make you stronger and its more or less invisible to your gameplay. Its abstracted out in a way which the player knows that the item is doing something, but it feels like a black box to your gameplay. The items in dota are just extremely powerful tools to a Hero's kit that even cores that don't scale very hard innately are still viable, with certain itemization.
@@j3y445 I think that the key difference is the focus on passive and actives in dota and deadlock compared to other mobas. You will get the stats that you need from almost any item allowing you to focus on the effects off the items instead, which gives you more varity in building instead of just building the exact same build everytime. It also helps that dota and deadlock's passive and active items are quite strong.

I've looked everywhere for information about what unique attributes each character has at a glance and there is nothing anywhere that I could find. You are the only person that I have seen that even mentioned that this is a thing.
5:00 buying multiple smaller cost efficient stat items is essential in dota, so I find it weird they made them unique here but I guess they want more build variety. What I do not like about deadlock's item system is the UI and icons of the items. The items look the same because they're all orange, purple and green. The icons are very simplistic and also look the same, you've got the bullet with a trail the three bullets, the heart with a lightning, the heart with wings, it looks very similar and it's quite confusing for new players. I hope they create more unique item icons on the future to make the items easily distinguishable. They will most likely change the item icons, no way they keep them as is. These feel like placeholders which probably are. Dota has many interesting item icons and some of them are became quite ''iconic''. So I think we can expect it to be the case here as well.
its a lie and a bait i promise. this game is more like smite. its better to get bigger items ASAP and its not worth it to buy all the small items because they sell for half and its putting off the big ticket items even later into the game, which isnt a good thing. you want all the moving parts of a build in place asap. you also want to be able to afford counter items. the more 500 soul items you buy, the longer it takes to get actual items. buy like 2 or 3 tops, and use those to afford t2 items. use t2 items to afford t3 items, and try to avoid t1 and t2 items that dont build up into bigger items, unless they have a massive impact, like soul shredder on seven, or fleetfoot on bullet builds.
I've never been into MOBAs so i deadass feel like i'm doing homework trying to figure out how to not be completely horrendous at this video game. I've never in my life had so much fun with a video game I do not understand at all
Maybe should have called the video something in the lane of "item guide", because your video didnt show up when I searched youtube for it. Only showed up in feed.
Exactly this! Because I typed in "Deadlock Itemization", looking for a spreadsheet or something, but this amazing video popped up and I was legit surprised that there was a video with a similar title.
Nice video! This is a good intro for beginners. One thing I'd add is that imo, 'filling your slots' is pretty situational. It's a lot like filling your slots with bracers/wraith bands in Dota. (Deadlock has no real equivalent to iron branches or magic stick.) Sure, you get a lot of stats for the cost, but sometimes those stats have really questionable usefulness. If your hero has a massive powerspike, such as a farming item, blink dagger for initiation, or BKB for a channeled ult, etc, then spending thousands of gold on 'value' items that ultimately delay that powerspike is a mistake. In other words, value in a vacuum isn't everything - rather, the value an item contributes directly to your specific gameplan is what should be considered. In Dota, the only heroes that fill their slots with 500 gold items before getting a larger item are cores who expect to stay in a contested lane for a long time. Usually, the first big powerspike item a hero buys is what allows them to force their opponent out of lane, or leave lane to jungle themselves. But lane is one of the few scenarios where miscellaneous stats usually do provide good value, so ignoring them to rush an item isn't possible if the lane is still contested. As soon as the outcome of the lane is decided, these stats are usually much less useful and you'd be better off rushing whatever will allow you to function in the midgame.
I will say that in the context of Dota, heroes have been optimized enough that their best item powerspikes are pretty well understood, and teams are competent at executing macro level strategy to continually widen an advantage. In a context like deadlock, where half the fights are random bad chaos, neither team is playing the map super efficiently, and games go long, then random miscellaneous stats definitely go up in value. Still, I think it's worth thinking about in the sandbox for each hero.
Vitality items give you TEN PERCENT max HP, even for just a single 500 cost item. It's definitely worth it to fill your slots with cheap green items early in the game even if you'll be replacing them eventually.
@@smedleycheswith1272 you are overvaluing 10 percent max hp; either that or you are undervaluing the potential of an impactful item powerspike yes, hp is good and more is better, but if you're going to leave lane and farm, hp does next to nothing for you in the immediate short term, and filling your slots delays your tesla rounds (for example) by 1500-2000 souls. all i'm saying is it is not as cut and dry as "always fill your slots ASAP"
@@tortoise-chan obviously you want that but when you have maximally accelerated your farm you should spend the 1k on filling out your green items before 6k on siphon or whatever
This video is great. Items seem really cool in this game. Coming from Dota, this all makes a lot of sense, just needed someone to break down what some of these keywords mean (i.e. "bullet shield")
I love how you keep hyping up the active items and saying they are slept on. I completely agree. As an ex-Dota player I think something that most other games dont have is impactful and fun active items and I feel most people are overlooking them because they are so used to passive items that only give stats.
The build variety and power of items is awesome in this game. Been waiting for a well done moba shooter. Most of them feel floaty and janky. This game feels crisp.
If you press ALT while hovering over an ability, you can also see how much the ability scales with spirit power. For example, Grey Talon's Charged Shot (ability 1) has 1.6 and if upgraded 2.5 scaling, i.e. 1.6/2.5x your spirit power is added to the damage. Other abilities may have better or worse scaling, but this value is important to keep in mind. Just because something scales with spirit, doesn't mean it makes a big difference. (note: what is a "good" scaling depends on the ability, something that has damage or heal per second benefits more from a spirit scaling of e.g. 0.5 than a one-time damage ability with a long cooldown)
One real good combo i found is getting bullet vunerability on spirit damage dealt running alongside tesla bullets. This combo in Mcginnis specifically is exceptionally lethal, especially with other fire rate buffs so tesla procs as much as possible.
Such an useful video! I queued right after watching this and got a game with 62k souls and a diff of 20k+ with the enemy team. But we lost lol cause I died once to get mid-boss buff.
Hey Shizug just want to say thank you so much for these guides. I had never played a moba before Deadlock and after following your guide series since the beginning I have reached top 0.2% of players according to some deadlock mmr trackers. These really are fantastic guides and just wanted to say thanks!
I really think heroic aura is slept on. It has obvious synergy with Mcginnis's turrets, but outside of that the massive movement buff can be huge for dives and disengages. It won't make your hero a lot stronger (depending on how well they can utilize the bullet lifesteal) but it can make your team fight contribution much stronger. It also pushes waves which can be impactful in both base assaults and base defense.
A video idea that I would be interested in watching is one that maybe talks through a live game and how to adapt to different situations with your build.
I'm so glad I found your channel, this is exactly what I was looking for! This might not be enough for a video but do you have any suggestions on what to look for when picking a build? Do you pick a specific build based on the enemy heroes in your lane, or just stick to whatever works for you and swap a few key items?
Thank you for the videos! I already watched the others, started doing some movement tech and trying to optimize my farming between lanes/when jungling. My score is no longer "least souls in the lobby" and 0/10/0 - it's more like 5/5/10 and soul number somewhere in the middle xd But the items have had me stumped for a bit, I usually blindly follow user-suggested builds. Thank you for this as well!
Good Video. Learned a lot. Idk if you touched how some items DO build into eachother. If you buy Basic Magazine and have full slots you can still upgrade it to Titanic magazine because it's an upgraded version of that perk.
Cool thing about magic carpet is some champ synergies, like you can fly up get a good angle and Bebop ult from safety since you just float in Bebop ult. Also it's a fun little item to get max height on Lash use your 1st ability and save all your mobility after landing, good for his ulti sometimes too. Seven can get some cool safety ults in with it aswell. Can get some cheeky Mo and Krill ults on flying charcters like vindicta and grey talon xD Some less great ult uses, but can help with it are infernus, warden, viscous, and haze just cause you can start ulti out of sight way above them and you drop like a stone so you start hitting right away. 😁
Something else about warp stone, people ask why you would take it if you can just get extra stamina. One reason is that it doesn't interrupt a lot of states your character could be in, like Vindictia fly.
Dota itemization in an tps is what this world needs. Actual thinking. Ofc some dudes are broken bs. But thats just numbers. The items are great. I want even more
15:33 a quick correction on reactive barrier it doesn't give you bullet or spirit it's both regardless of what type of effect hits you which is why it's quite valuable against any team that has something to proc it, it's amazing vs bebop for example.
I def have been using the excuse of not understanding items to explain my losses. this video will now make that claim bs lol good job explaining the stuff. real comprehensive.

its a lie and a bait i promise. this game is more like smite. its better to get bigger items ASAP and its not worth it to buy all the small items because they sell for half and its putting off the big ticket items even later into the game, which isnt a good thing. you want all the moving parts of a build in place asap. you also want to be able to afford counter items. the more 500 soul items you buy, the longer it takes to get actual items. buy like 2 or 3 tops, and use those to afford t2 items. use t2 items to afford t3 items, and try to avoid t1 and t2 items that dont build up into bigger items, unless they have a massive impact, like soul shredder on seven, or fleetfoot on bullet builds.
I have been waiting for someone to make this video. Thank you!
Nice video ! I started playind the game 3 days ago and it helped me a lot :D I sent your video to a friend who's also learning the game, thank you !
I've never been into MOBAs so i deadass feel like i'm doing homework trying to figure out how to not be completely horrendous at this video game. I've never in my life had so much fun with a video game I do not understand at all
Crazy great explanation surprised you don't have a bigger following. Keep it up!
Great channel, really great information and presentation, been learning a lot of useful information from your vids.
Loving these videos brother, you do a great job at teaching, it’s harder than it looks!
This man will make us all warriors. Love the content man keep it coming!!
Couldn't resist that 1 on dynamo at the end there. :D
I just got access, and it's been a lot of fun so far!
as someone who just got invited last week these videos have been a god send thank you
Cool video man listening rather than reading made it easier with showcases gj
Damn, keep it coming. This helped me IMMENSELY.
It's definitely worth it to fill your slots with cheap green items early in the game even if you'll be replacing them eventually.
always fill your empty slot, atleast 3 of 4 each
@@smedleycheswith1272 you are overvaluing 10 percent max hp; either that or you are undervaluing the potential of an impactful item powerspike
yes, hp is good and more is better, but if you're going to leave lane and farm, hp does next to nothing for you in the immediate short term, and filling your slots delays your tesla rounds (for example) by 1500-2000 souls. all i'm saying is it is not as cut and dry as "always fill your slots ASAP"
@@tortoise-chan obviously you want that but when you have maximally accelerated your farm you should spend the 1k on filling out your green items before 6k on siphon or whatever
Appreciate this, the item shop is the most intimidating thing to me T_T big help!
Just the video I was looking for! What great timing.
This video is great. Items seem really cool in this game. Coming from Dota, this all makes a lot of sense, just needed someone to break down what some of these keywords mean (i.e. "bullet shield")
I love how you keep hyping up the active items and saying they are slept on. I completely agree. As an ex-Dota player I think something that most other games dont have is impactful and fun active items and I feel most people are overlooking them because they are so used to passive items that only give stats.
wow its way deeper than i thought which is quite nice
this really cleared up alot of the doubts I had about the item system, thank you for making these awesome guides!
The build variety and power of items is awesome in this game. Been waiting for a well done moba shooter. Most of them feel floaty and janky. This game feels crisp.
awesome video! exactly what i was looking for! well explained
This combo in Mcginnis specifically is exceptionally lethal, especially with other fire rate buffs so tesla procs as much as possible.
nice guide thank you for explaining the spirit power scaling
the least amount of um's and uh's so far, great vid
Such an useful video! I queued right after watching this and got a game with 62k souls and a diff of 20k+ with the enemy team. But we lost lol cause I died once to get mid-boss buff.
this is a sick video, thank you for explaining everything
Hey Shizug just want to say thank you so much for these guides. I had never played a moba before Deadlock and after following your guide series since the beginning I have reached top 0.2% of players according to some deadlock mmr trackers.
These really are fantastic guides and just wanted to say thanks!
This is great content, thank you so much, please keep making videos This is so helpful
I love shooters and i rly enjoy games that focus item management, i can't wait to be able to play deadlock once it goes public
I'm so glad I found your channel, this is exactly what I was looking for! This might not be enough for a video but do you have any suggestions on what to look for when picking a build? Do you pick a specific build based on the enemy heroes in your lane, or just stick to whatever works for you and swap a few key items?
I really appreciate stuff like this as someone who dabbles in mobas
Been waiting for a video like this
Thank you for the videos! I already watched the others, started doing some movement tech and trying to optimize my farming between lanes/when jungling. My score is no longer "least souls in the lobby" and 0/10/0 - it's more like 5/5/10 and soul number somewhere in the middle xd
But the items have had me stumped for a bit, I usually blindly follow user-suggested builds. Thank you for this as well!
wow as someone who has been trying to use this build on seven this is a great video lol
Good Video. Learned a lot. Idk if you touched how some items DO build into eachother. If you buy Basic Magazine and have full slots you can still upgrade it to Titanic magazine because it's an upgraded version of that perk.
Great video, im gonna have to watch this a few times
Hey man, very helpful! 😊 Subbed!
Can get some cheeky Mo and Krill ults on flying charcters like vindicta and grey talon xD
Some less great ult uses, but can help with it are infernus, warden, viscous, and haze just cause you can start ulti out of sight way above them and you drop like a stone so you start hitting right away. 😁
Something else about warp stone, people ask why you would take it if you can just get extra stamina. One reason is that it doesn't interrupt a lot of states your character could be in, like Vindictia fly.
Life-saving video
Dota itemization in an tps is what this world needs. Actual thinking. Ofc some dudes are broken bs. But thats just numbers. The items are great. I want even more
I appreciate the chill video :3
Bro is THE Deadlock youtuber
15:33 a quick correction on reactive barrier it doesn't give you bullet or spirit it's both regardless of what type of effect hits you which is why it's quite valuable against any team that has something to proc it, it's amazing vs bebop for example.
I def have been using the excuse of not understanding items to explain my losses. this video will now make that claim bs lol good job explaining the stuff. real comprehensive.
awesome video! thanks for the breakdown!
Another banger sir ! 🎉
Nice explanation, thank you.
Thanks for the breakdown!
Good work brotha. Just getting into deadlock. I’m ready for a coach. Gaang!
Really useful guide, I still suck at this game, but not knowing what the items do is no longer a reason for me sucking
My little brother got me to play this game and I absolutely hate MOBAS… that being said I’ve had a lot of fun. Thanks for the video helped me a ton. Still don’t know what I’m doing 🤣
Great vids mate keen for more
Bonus note on spirit, if you hold alt (default keybinds) you can see the spirit scaling for those scaling abilities and stats
very good and informative content thanks 4 uploading
Now I know how to play against Seven's, Dynamo's ults
Ty bro
My favorite deadlock content creator
It’s good to note that all of previous items stats are added into the upgraded version
