Its a crumbling society because everyone thinks they are/want to be rebel's in every aspect of life. Play the victim card every chance they get and is also why anxiety, depression, are so prevalent.
No shortage of Atheists or extremists that cannot find a healthy place so a large percentage of people become slaves to their ego's, and naturally, malfunction.

Politicians should have to live by their rules like we do, same health insurance, same gun rights, same rules once you leave the job so do your benefits, etc. I always said it’s the people voting for open borders are the same ones who never thought it would affect them except the immigrants they need to clean their houses, take care of their gardens and raise their children, just enough for those reasons and that’s why governor Abbott was genius, they were talking a different story when buses showed up in their neighborhoods.

Sadly I think they were right. I don't think Thomas Sowell would have done well in politics.
He, himself, has related the story of how he came be a conservative after being a Marxist. He told how he came up with some statistics about sugar harvesting in Puerto Rico and was basically told to shut up by his superiors in DC.
I can't imagine a man who has spent so much of his life studying and understanding statistics and facts thriving in an environment where most are immune to facts and statistics and basic honesty and want nothing to do with any of the above.
I can't imagine Thomas Sowell thriving in an environment where he would have to kiss the asses of the corrupt and incompetent to get anywhere in their good ol boy networks.
Many, with good intentions, and ability have come and gone in the political arena have simply walked away in disgust or didn't last long for other reasons, or worse yet, they became part of the problem and not the solution.
Politics, sadly, is a career path that doesn't seem to be a meritocracy.
