62 all the way🤘🏻
To my ears, I hear the 62's with a lot more twang on clean guitar tones. They were very bright sounding all the way through with a lot of emphasis on high midrange frequencies. This seemed to give them more clarity and snap when you played them with over-driven tones.
The 67's were definitely warmer than the 62's. They took a lot of that 'shrill' out of the bridge pickup which sounds good in the clean and crunch tones. When it was over-driven, it seemed the notes tried to blend in with each other more. Without a doubt, the 62's were more articulate here.
'67 has more bite, sounds more open and like it might handle dynamics a little better. The '62 has sweet tone and more focused sound to me Both are winners in tool box of tones!
The 62 set has that quack it’s known for, 67 set more of a compressed scooped tone a bit more modern sounding 62 stays cleaner without the break up . 67 a brighter tone but may be due to maple neck instead of the rosewood neck on the Strat with the set of 62. If your straight 60’s early rock and blues, r&b go with the 62 if you cross over classic rock and more of a modern player the 67 is the way to go. For sure the 62 has a better single note articulation.
Was lucky to find a used set of Kloppmann real 62s so got them for a good price. After going through countless brands, vintage and hot, this set is surely the absolute best strat pickups I have heard
I love Ancho Poblano Josephina HW PUs in my Fender CS strat and Radishop ID 63 GT PUs in my Squier MIJ 1986 strat. Radioshops are a bit hotter (6.22, 6.22 and 6.7kOhm), Anchos are 5.9, 6.4 and 6,06 kOhm. Both very woody and warm: ancho poblano`s are more scooped, radioshop`s have more bite in midrange, but very articulate and clear. Love them both!! Rock on and stay healthy!
Kloppmann makes the best repro Strat pickups in my view. I have a set of custom HSS pickups in my Strat, love 'EM.
At first I thought the 67 was warmer , but as you went on it felt like the high tones were muffled a bit . The 62 seemed flawless . Thanks for sharing but now I want a `62 .
I liked the snap of the ‘62, great playing as always
'62s sounded better to me, but I'd be happy with either.
62’s had much more of that pure glassy Strat chime. The 67’s had a more compressed, lower output sound. Even just through my TV speakers, the 62 was a pretty clear winner!
Both sound great
The 67 is more bright, but both of them sound excellent. Thanks for the great review Mr R.J.
Love your style! I can hear Robert Cray's influences
4:12 that lick was so nice!
I liked the blue guitar (67) earlier on in the video in the clean parts. Felt like it was a hair brighter and had a bit more definition there.
I liked the Vintera (62) for more gain. Warmer and more throaty tones. But, I will also note, this one sounded a little nicer to my ears when you did the clean strum test (no backing track) later on.
if you do this test on exactly the same guitars, the final result will be different. Rosewood or maple fredboard is already a big difference. In this test I think the 62 is the best sound for me, but it could be if you also play the 67 on a Rosewood fretboard, I will like the 67 better. so in the next test, think better whether you use maple or rosewood fretboard on both guitars. Now you can't really give an opinion on this!
I thought both bridge pickups sounded good. I think I liked the 62 better overall. 62 sounded brighter to me. There were a couple positions I did however like the 67 better. Guess it depends on guitar/ amp/ pedal combo someone would use to. 62 may sound a little to bright with a bright amp and lots of gain, 67 may smooth it out a bit.
Nice video!
Great sound!!! (like always...) Neck: 62! Bridge: 67! Middle: not sure...
That tone,, love it
epic playing ! are there any other single pickups that sound like these ? Kloppmann are hard to get !
I like both. Both have their place. As a pup maker there’s an explanation for the tonal difference. Early 60’s pups were hand wound (scatter wound). Late 60’s (1965 and later) were machine wound. Machine wing coils are a more consistent in wind because of the way the machine can consistently traverse back and forth laying the layers of the coil down. Hand wound pups have more character difficulties between each set. Generally I pick hand wound because I like the pronounced mids of a higher capacitance pup.
62’s for me.
Think the 62 won the dirty section by a mile. Much better note definition, smoother sounding, more transparent tone in the in betweenie positions.
you test the pickups with two different guitar necks Maple and a Rosewood, if you want to test between different pickups you have to use the same configuration!
maybe, maybe not 😊
The '62 sounds best, in this test. Fatter, better tonal presence. But I have a '68, that sounds better than that '67. So, it's got a lot to also do with the amp used and the settings - because, obviously, whatever setup works great for one may not the other.
There's more to the difference than just the pickups going on here ...
Both in the necks and the recordings.
62s for sure🤘😎
I think i've got a better sound definition now, 62 is more Rory Gallagher like, bright, clean, crunchy sound, 67 is more SRV mid-range sound, love them both but if i had to choose i'd go for the 62 set.
Great comparison thanks! Btw were those 62's the vintage cream color and the 67's white?
Dude, you look way more comfortable with 2:24 to 2:38
...looked like it might have not enough coffee the first take. Haha
Great playing. Can I borrow some licks? For real?
Hahaha
cheers!!!!
WOW @R.J.Ronquillo this was a hard one because both are relatively close but the more I listened the 67's has a sweetness and the 62's have a little more clarity. But the differences I noticed that the 67's have a note bloom on the lower frets that's between the 1st to 6th fret where it leaves off the 62's begin with not blooms from 7th fret all the way up the neck to like the 15th fret. Beautiful tones and overdriven sounds you were able to pull from both. Both the Real 62 & Real 67 have a nice clean sound with a hint of saturation in them. But in all truth they're very similar.
I like the 62's in the neck and middle, but I like the bite of the 67 in the bridge.
I prefered the 62 on the first 3 positions, brighter sound to my ears despite the rosewood neck, but then i liked the 67 better on position 4 and 5, more grittier sound to me, so i'd take neck and bridge pickups on the 62 and the bridge pickup on the 67 or maybe i'd just have to take both guitars, they both sound great.
I really liked the '67s for the solos. They seems to have a richer tone especially on the lower end. But when you strummed chords, I liked the 62's. The 67 had a muddier tone when strumming the chords while the 62's were much more crisp where you could really hear the notes within that chord.
Great music.great video..i prefer the 62s..but wouldn't we also hear a differance from the( rosewood?maple?)fretboards? anyway, much respect to you.great playing.
Fantastic sequences for comparing pickups! But: Almost useless, when not using same guitar models, if not the same guitar. These 2 Strats definitely have an individual primary tone of their own.
you should check out dummy oil set with st real 62 and st67
Both are great at wath they do 😉
The pickup height on the '67's is not optimum, the tone would not be as thin were they zeroed in imho. Always glad to hear R.J.'s fine playing.
We might be hearing more the different fretboard materials.
might not too
OMG those 62
ST 67!
I have the ST 67 in My neck and ST60 in the middle on My white strat.
Those 62 !
The attack on the 67 is immediate which is not a preference for me- very unforgiving- I prefer to hear the note expand. I do like the articulation of the 67.
I love both. To me, it seems that the ST67 tone is a bit thinner though compared to the ST62. I guess I would use the ST67 as the middle PU.
Now it would be great to compare the ST67 with the Abigail Ybarra CS PU ;)
If you dig Robert Cray the 62's are the Biz.
The 67’s had and openness that at times could sound nice and chimey, yet also sounding thin in some parts. The 62’s had something in the low-mid range. It was a little fuller sounding. Both pickups sounded fantastic. Great video.
Watched it again, the 67’s may have been a tad more articulate.
You and I definitely have similar ears. I know people hear things differently, but I really can't see how anyone could think the 67's sounded warmer, as someone else posted. Maybe people have different definitions for "warmer", but in most circles it's not related to the higher frequencies. The 62's have more mid push, there's no question. I guess some people hear more mids as "brighter". Whatever...I don't get it.
Both had there own strat quack,62’s are spanky and 67’s more compressed and defined
That said i think they both sound good
I'd love to hear them compared with some effects thrown in,like some fuzz and wah
I like the 67 better. More presence, lovely straty cut. 62s have very weird midrange, almost annoying
The 67s sound better to me, I don’t like too much treble on my pickups, or too much brightness, I usually boost the mids but cut the treble on bright pickups anyway. It’s one of the reasons I don’t like the bridge pickup when it’s not wired to a tone knob. The 67s are warmer, they are still clear, and sound like they may have a bit more mids than the 62s depending on how the tone knob is set, if both guitars tone knobs are set the same, then I would definitely roll up the tone knob on the 67s a bit. That’s what I do with my Jimi signature Strat and the mids sing through fine, although to be fair, my Jimi strat has 65s, also then we are listening through UA-cam, which will impact sound quality.
62 all day. 👍
With my eyes closed, i'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between them . I did - kinda- feel like the 67's were a little more to my taste, but the difference was so small, both sounded great ( like everything you play does !)
I preferred the 62s. The 67s sounded thinner and more scooped: the 62s had the mid-range I like. A player could find a use for both.
what about the 60's or 65?
So I think I'd prefer the 62s for more ambient stuff and the 67s for blues and rock. I think the 62s would also sound better with a rosewood fretboard or an ash body, a little too quacky for my taste, but I'd say they're more traditional. The 67s definitely sound more aggressive and present in a mix, but not necessarily better, just what I prefer
62 had more chime and seemed clearer, brighter and a bit weaker....67 sounded like a flatter EQ response across from highs to lows, and a bit muted and a bit more rounded.
I may be biased because I have a set of Abigail Yberra wound pickups, but the '67 set just has a little "extra" on the clean side...
To me the Kloppmann ST62 sounds like played through an vintage telephone speaker in comparison to the ST67. But who knows if that can be generally been said, because they are played on two different guitars with different neck woods.
They sound the same, both sound very very good
The 67 is more aggressive, the 62 is better in the mix, in the playback, the fact that the blue one has a maple fretboard makes it more difficult or is the other one a roasted maple? or rosewood. I think I'd prefer the 62 but if I would do a blues Album, I probably choose the 67.. just my humble opinion.
Love your playing... either way :)
Close...but the attack seems smoother with '67's even with maple fretboard 🤣😎
Both are great sounding, but 62 is the year :-)
62s seem to have more quack and mids that punch through. 62s for me!
Seems like the 67's have a tad little more output, and more high-mids, could be the result of more wounds, maybe, don't know.
I’m gonna say the ‘62 set.
62s for rootsy/bluesy stuff. 67s for effects.
67
62 nice tone and more mid tones when clean.....nicer to my ears. 67 gets better when gain added. Overall the 62 for me.
I thought both sounded good but the more pronounced mids of the 62s sounded better to me and seemed like they would cut through the the mix better in a band situation.
I think the 62 are much better, especially on the overdriven sounds. Then again it could be the guitar not sure
67 mor chime air 62 more bark and body nice-but different guitars…😎
I'm hearing lower output on the 62 and more twang. The 67 sounds like better mids and fuller tone all around.
Did you pay full price?
'62!
Are either/both staggered poles or flat?
Definitely the 62's. The 67's are brighter but not in a pleasant way, also thinner sounding.
I think you RJ is more comfortable with the 67's sound. I could be wrong?!
The 62 is much more thiner sounding and i like it
Same pot values?
I prefer the 62
What’s the spec on the 62? That’s the tone!
7,2 k 3.1H Bridge
62 for clean, 67 with drive
R.J, I'll have to say for me, the '62's sounded fuller.
'62s all the way. They sounded like Lay Down Sally.
Didn't hear a difference. '67 might have sounded a bit more blue.
Edit: '67 pickups slightly higher output but that's it and can be negated with pickup height. Fretboard might also have made a difference.
'62 in every way
62 fo sheezy
62's round fuller to me.
There is a different sound between the maple and rosewood necks so it's very difficult to compare the two pickups.
62 is too jangly for me. I much prefer the warmth of the 67
62 a smidge hotter and clearer.
I wouldn't tell the difference if not back to back
two different guitars mn vs rw. so its hard to tell...
The '62 has more mid scoop. More musical to me. The '67 is more middy and in the face. Both are excellent and different enought to be useful for the music one is working with. For personal taste give me the '62!! Thanks R.J.!
But the 67 has maple neck so hard to compare...
62 is darker and somewhat murkier. The 67 has more treble and chime in them. Difficult to choose, I like both.
I like the 62s better
The 67s sound a bit too bright for my taste
Jurgen Kloppman
62 cut better through the mix . Sounds not 3 times better then any Fender Pups. Good Pickups but much too pricey.
67 sounds like flat Soda. 62 sounded better 98% of the time. I don't play guitar btw.
62 pickups all day long..... 67 sounded like the tone knob was in play.
The ‘67’s are more scooped ..
67er perfekt vor psychedelic
