He talks about mutual respect and then proceeds to once again bash the DA. I quote: "the DA is totally committed to disrespecting us and misleading South Africa." He then goes on to tell us that he told John what the coalition has to be, as though it is his idea, all the while trying to convince us that the DA is the devil. I do sense a change in approach lately by the DA regarding coalitions, to being more inclusive and listening rather than wanting to dictate. But, with Action SA constantly bashing the DA, its going to be an uphill battle.
The DA would do better with less arrogance. That's his point. But y'all just seem to miss that😅

I don't see Mashaba contradicting himself at all. He agrees that the DA and ActionSA share a lot ideologically (free market capitalism, rule of law, property rights) and thus they are getting into a pact. And that's what matters most. Everything else is just "feelings" about each other. They don't need to be in love, just corporate on the points of agreement.
Mashaba is totally confused, no politician as confused as he is will ever succed.

This is the pre-mature death of the ActionSA in 2024 elections. Most people do not vote for the DA for a reason, even though they no longer want the ANC. Here is the thing. The ActionSA majority was in the DA and it onlt had 20% of the votes. ActionSA splintered maybe with 3-4% of the original DA votes, and 0.2% of the ANC. How will this “unity” unseat the ANC?

I kinda disagree. I think it’s pretty clear the DA ideally want to be part of a coalition to vote the ANC out. The question is if push comes to shove, whether they’ll work with the ANC? I don’t know and it’s a move that might be hard to sell to it’s own voters.
Whether the EFF will join the coalition is also a factor that can’t be completely dismissed (even though they’ve burnt bridges with many of the political parties).
I think the ANC know a coalition with the EFF is self-destructive (in that the EFF will essentially work from within to destabilise and dismantle the ANC). That being said I think the ANC are going to focus on smaller corruptible parties (giving them disproportionate benefits) before they consider working with the DA.

The 2008 crash was due to sub-prime mortgages and a failure of regulators.
Just look at the 3 banks that collapsed a few weeks back. Why do depositors keep putting their money in risky banks? Well, because their money is guaranteed/backed by the government, so if it fails, the government will simply bail them out.
That is the opposite of a free market. The US used to be a free market, and they used to thrive. Over the decades, as they have drifted away, their economy appears to be more vulnerable than ever before

Mashaba comes across as a moral leader that thinks with his head. Potential coalitions must flesh things out before and not after they’re elected, people want stability. Every party is going to politik a bit but Herman is right that there must be a foundation of respect to build a policy framework upon. At the same time parties must be realistic themselves and think about citizens first. In this early stage of SA coalition politics it’s clear there’s a tendency for smaller parties to also abuse their swing power and slow progress (ActionSA a not small party imo btw).
Leaders must do right for the people and like the idea of moderate parties coming together. Hope it happens.
