My mom grew up in Maracaibo and even though we live here in Venezuela she has not been there in a long while. She was shocked when I showed her this, especially because she grew up in the 60s and 70s when Maracaibo was one of the main Petroleum extraction hubs and wealth was a common theme in the place. Im young and Ive gone to many ,many places in the country during recent years (Venezuela has been in a state of disrepair for quite some time now) and Ive seen places deteriorate to a state where they are barely recognizable from what they used to be; yet still this video shocks me, it seems Maracaibo has felt especially hard what the country has gone through in the last 2 decades, especially last 10 years. I think ill visit Maracaibo soon so I can see it with my own eyes, I can only hope some day in the future I will be able to see something that even slightly resembles what places like Maracaibo were in its golden age. It´s sad ive only seen the country go downhill ever since I gained consciousness as a child.
I am currently living in Maracaibo while some things are true other might not be the case: - it was a cloudy/rainy day so usually taxis and cars avoid going out due to puddles, it's extremely common when we just had a rain taxis are not available, most people in plaza go out at evening, not at the middle of the day. - Maracaibo is a badly designed city, it was made for cars not for people, I never heard someone in the past of walking from the center of the city to let's say Plaza de la republica, unless you are forced to. - Some shops closed early probably due being a rainy day ( mostly because transportation is so bad they are afraid no buses/taxis are available due rain) - The city is not definitely what it used to be, but in some parts is really popular specially at night. - Funny enough some of the places he visited even for a local were extremely dangerous to go around 10 years ago, so he wouldn't be able to visit even if they were back then full of "life"
Hey Kurt! Maracucho here. DO NOT get on the buses unless you know exactly what you are doing or where you are going. Robberies happen everyday all the time on these. I've always wondered why you never go to a real fancy, VIP, local restaurant that uses local ingredients and produce. I would love to see that in your videos! Love the content!
Watching this podcast has helped me improve my Spanish speaking skills. When you do not have many people in your circle of friends that speak Spanish, it can be hard to learn a new language. Anyway, I wanted to express my gratitude. If other viewers have learned Spanish outside of the formal academic environment, please let me know what worked for you. I am about to become a rehabilitation counselor and there's a big need for bilingual speakers.
"almost like water," *as Alejandra makes a sour face after tasting*🤣 30:05
The lady is so VERY beautiful. Better try and hold onto her. It's evident she loves you very much. She is a lovely gift from God!
"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth", Kurt. That is an old American saying meaning, don't take for granted or casually pass off a blessing that comes your way. A woman who loves you is a blessing... but when she is also a VERY BEAUTIFUL woman that is a rare and special blessing.
Alejandra is the vision of loveliness... looks, demeanor, and personality.
Thanks for the vids Kurt. Keep her around... she makes the videos not only interesting, but adds beauty to them.

Who is still watching this in 2024?
Maracaibo was very clean. Do not believe when people are poor they want to live in filth. This is a prime example of society taking pride in their city.
