Victoria, I hope you get the chance to have these. I have the Walmart set of Prismacolors, they are pretty good for about $20.00. It is a big amount of money for me too, my husband passed away last year from a stroke and I am also disabled, so I get it when the budget is tight. Jennifer…are the colors in the 120 soft touch the same colors that are in the 120 gold is my concern…on Amazon Canada the new gold set is going for $132+ CAD so I’m hesitant 😕 on ordering them if the colors are the same as I already have the soft touch. I did order the pastel and metallics though

I watch UA-cam on my TV so I can't always leave a comment, but I enjoy your videos. I am a professional artis and a couple of years ago I switched to colored pencils and found your channel. Your videos are very well done, informative and fun to watch.
As far as I am aware, they're not supposed to be a "matched set" as such. The Gold set is simply an upgraded quality set of pencils, there are a few unique colours in the Gold set which aren't in the original Soft set. The other major difference is that the Soft are predominantly wax based whereas the Golds are more oil-based (although imho, they don't feel like they have a harder oil core like the Polychromos, Koh-i-Nor Polycolor, Derwent Lightfast or the Caran D'Ache Pablos do. They're still really soft and have - as you discovered - the crumb issues). Thanks for this very comprehensive review of the new sets, very much looking forward to the new swatch charts, very much appreciate the efforts there in producing those. I'd love to see a test between the Gold and the Polychromos because (I suspect) you'll find they're not even remotely comparable in either feel or lay down.

Thanks for such a thorough run-through. You check everything that I would want to know about a pencil set. Since you mention the crumbs, it reminds me of when I used to work for an advertising company. I worked in the department with the art directors, illustrators and writers. I remember they had this brushes they used to swipe their pages as they worked on them. The brush was like a carpenter's hand brush. So, even the artists in an advertising agency dealt with crumbs. I don't know if that is any way to measure the quality or value of pencils.
I am really interested in their unique sets like the Van Gogh set, but now I kind of want to check out the Gold, too. I am a colored pencil artist and do a lot of portraits, but unlike many others, I don't have a set preference for wax or oil based pencils. I will use whatever I have on hand and finesse them differently to get the results I want.
Oh my the pencils look wonderful. I am just now starting to look into getting pencils. Castle Arts look wonderful. Steve put so much effort into making the swatch charts. Jennifer I so appreciate you and Steve! You Rock! I have to say I have a set of Castle Art pencils and I wasn't that impressed compared to some of my other cheaper pencils. I had off-centered issues and one pencil broke so bad (straight out of the box) that it's down to the dipped section. When you mentioned putting them in the freezer, I wish I had tried that from the onset, but who knew? 🤣 Anyhoo, I think I'll wait until the price comes down on these a little before I think of getting them. Or, I could be your winner of the giveaway and I'd be set. 🤣 Thanks for all you do. You truly make my coloring life so much easier.

Great Videos! Not only do your videos save me time, they help me make an informative decision before ordering from Amazon & possibly having to send them back. I own 3 sets of Castle Arts Colored Pencils & do enjoy them. The one thing I love most about your videos is the cute little dog that’s always asleep on the pillow in the corner. First time I seen him/her I thought it was a stuffed animal until I “thought” I seen his eye move. I spent the entire video staring at your dog waiting to see if it was real and it is! Absolutely Beautiful fur baby. Maybe you can draw a picture of the little dog using the New Castle Arts so we can all get a real good idea as to how well the “Gold & Pasteltint” work. Looking forward to more videos & getting a glimpse of the little dog.

I got the Castle Arts Metallics for Christmas. Haven't done much but swatch them but, so far, I really like them!
How do the pencils blend?
I had to work at it a little but, they will blend. Light touch, lots of layers.
