- Overwatch 2 has just dropped it's first Mythic Weapon skin. It's effectivley $80 if you were to outright buy it. It was an excellent monetization system. I never spent a dollar on lootboxes, I just played the game a lot and got mostly everything in overwatch 1. I miss loot boxes

Literally worked so well for OW, because cosmetics literally aren’t that important to be dropping a bag on 😂. But they’re important enough to expose how predatory blizzard is with their audience.
The pricing is the WORST I have ever seen. It is disgusting. The industry is moving in the totally wrong direction. They are not making games anymore, they are making interactive shops. Interactive shops targeted towards kids. Barbaric Blizzard, B-A-R-B-A-R-I-C.

Luckily I bought the skin for $10 using prisms I got from the battle pass but that’s only because I didn’t buy a mythic skin. Otherwise the pricing is genuinely insane.

From having (free) regular weapon inspects in the early OW2 trailer to selling premium weapon skins to have exclusive inspects for a ton of money just shows you how Blizzard really stopped to care about the players at all in the last years

4 levels and 80 prisms for a weapon is insane. Would’ve been cool with 2 levels and 20-40 prisms, but it is not worth a whole mythic skin

Definitely agree it's not worth a full skin. Mythic skins have their own unique weapons, so this is just the full price of a mythic for just the weapon inspect and death effect basically

This is just truly disgusting and a shiny example of Blizzard have completely completely unchecked with their greed. Not only did they take a promised feature away that was supposed to be in the base game, but they monitized it to cost a minimum of $50… for a damn weapon inspect…
I used to spend money on loot boxes all the time in OW1 because it didn’t feel overly exploitive and I wanted to support the game… but OW2? Crap like this weapon inspect BS is exactly why I haven’t spent a single dollar on it in almost 2 years.

@@joshuacollins9316 yes. I would say that. An artists drafts up a drawing or an image idea. The next artist implements it digitally and another artist overlays the skin to an existing model. If 10,000 people bought the rein hammer for a dollar, that would more than cover the cost of production and create profit. I do not think that weapon model cost even a couple thousand dollars worth of time and labor

On the topic of monetization, for 80 I could buy Helldiver 2 and 4 of their warbonds, and then use the free credits in the passes to buy the rest of the warbonds, so I could but pretty much everything in Helldivers for the cost of one cosmetic in Overwatch.
Companies need to pay the bills, so don't hate monetization, but there is a massive value difference to the consumer there.

I think mythic weapons rae a great idea, i think this one is also done really well. Our buggest complaint about mythic skins was that the user doesnt even got to see/enjoy it. This solves that. But in making something good, they completely messed it up and priced a single cosmetic higher than an ENTIRE NEXT GEN GAME!

Prices are often raised when nobody's buying. Pricing out the small guy and relying on whales, who may happen to be a small guy with spending control problems, is what businesses do before going underwater. Overwatch as a business may be on its last leg.

I bought this mythic not expecting that there is additional money required for all the animations. Apparently $40AUD isn't enough. I knew Blizzard were greedy. But man, this is next level. $80 for everything. Should honestly be embarrassed and ashamed to release this.

Isn’t it funny how Rein got the Hard Light weapon skin before this and now have a Mythic weapon skin for him, meanwhile every other character (aside from Mercy, Junkrat and Soldier) doesn’t even have one?
I truly can not fathom why microtransactions cost so much now. I know get that they are targeting the whales that don't mind spending the price of an entire full game for a 2 second animation, but still you'd think it would be most effective to target the entire community by making it affordable for the average person. I wouldn't mind spending like 1-5 bucks for something like this for my favorite characters and I'm sure I'm not in the minority there. But the original base game of overwatch 1 cost 40$. You're trying to tell me this little bit of animation is worth twice the equivalent of 6 years development for an entire game.
The real question is how will the mythic REIN look? Would there be a point in buying the mythic weapon if the mythic skin will still override the the weapon? And no, the inspects aren’t worth it.
Why didn't you mention the fact that the $34.99 is only for the base version of the axe?? You still need to buy levels 2, 3 and 4 using mythic points to get the completed axe.
Why do you think they waited till the mid season to add it.. so people would spend their prisms on the ash skin early on then when the rein hammer dropped, people who spent it would have to spend money on it.

the best part is that there was people years before overwatch who defended the end of loot boxes and the creation of a battle pass and in game shop, lol. Nowadays we have... this... thing, selling basic things, that not just could as should be in the base game, can't say that the new skins are bad, but if it was on overwatch 1 they were gonna cost just 30 bucks (the 30 bucks you use to buy the game, once, in your entire life, and then get everything else for free).

After the last major update with the prisims, it made me see there was no hope for the game anymore. Haven't touched it since. 😞
Risk of Rain 2 has hours of replay ability, is super fun with friends, and has tons to explore for new players. The game is super polished and I keep coming back to it for years. I’m saying this cause it’s one of the only other games I’ve played as long as overwatch, for reference the game is $24.99 on steam literally less then the STARTER pack for the rein weapon. There’s no in store purchases and only 2 purchasable DLCs that aren’t essential to gameplay at a modest $15 price.
The point I’m trying to make is that for the cost of a rein weapon fully upgraded ($80) you could get years of entertainment for a modest $55. Wild.

I love how they added it in the middle of the season so most people already got all the mythic skin coins from the battle pass so if you want the weapon you'll have to pay for it.

Off topic but I fully believe the “pickable passives” weee not something they invented on the spot to be fun but just cut pve content lazily added in as a “hacked” mode. I can only imagine how much pve content is recycled in this way
Now I wish the battle pass gives you 10 extra mythic prisms every season, that way, you get the mythic you want along with a little extra to either save or treat yourself. Hell I wish we had 20 extra or 30 extra, but knowing Blizzard, it's probably not gonna happen.
If they are going to add weapon inspects into Overwatch 2, I think it would be part of the idle animation. As in if you wait long enough you'll see the characters looking at their weapons.
Realistically, you could get the weapon skin for the cost of a battle pass if you so choose. You don’t need to buy the bundle for this ludicrous cost to acquire it. That being said for what you get, the entirety of this weapon skin should be 40 prisms MAXIMUM.
I always try to look at these things objectively and this one logically doesn’t make sense for what you get. If you buy something outside of the BP it’s already been established that prisms are overpriced. But without colour customization options or even hammer customization it doesn’t add up to 80 prisms.
I'll give them a tiny bit of benefit of the doubt here. The weapon inspect is bound to the reload key, this make me think that it's actually supposed to be a custom reload animation but rein got this instead since he can't reload

When Rein eventually has a mythic skin, it should be Bound Demon related. If not then gonna be crap having a completely different themed mythic skin with a mismatch themed mythic weapon.
I feel like they should have made the bundle just include all 4 levels for that price. I think that would have been a mostly reasonable cost when you figure in the coins. As it stands it is actually designed to make you pay more because you then have to buy the 24.99 Prism pack to get the rest of the levels. I didn't get the 24.99 pack and instead used the prisms from this Battle Pass because I like all the Level 1 Ashe things the best so I didn't feel the need to unlock the rest of those.
Does anyone have a link to the dev allegedly saying said that weapon inspects were being abandoned and repurposed into Mythic Weapons? I totally believe it because Blizzard but I’d like to see the proof.

My complaints about them tying weapon inspects to mythic skins aside, the idea of "Mythic Weapons" that add kill animations and additional ability/skill effects is pretty awesome.
But yea the price is pretty steep.
