"The secret heretics tried to capture the secret loyalists so they could discern the location of the hidden heretics in a conflict where both sides were loyal to the emperor" - Lord Commander Chykin on the Dark Angels actions on Vraks M41.999

i'm a writer and i know a lot about small unit tactics, actually when you write about something you better understand it well beforehand, increases the quality of the work ten folds, that's all there is about world building and research brother... the fun part of writing, learning in details...
You ever wonder why the Imperials constantly falls for the same tactics the Alpha Legion uses over and over again? The Imperial Guard I can understand. 95% of the Guard doesn't even know what an Alpha Legionary is, let alone their battle strategy. However, the Astartes, especially the First Founding chapters, have no excuse by now to fall for the same old tricks over and over. Personally if I heard the enemy was the Alpha Legion, I would turn around a dump a magazine into my own shadow just to make sure my shadow isn't Alpharius.
It's almost like they're fighting against genetically modified supersoliders with vastly extended lifespans that have been trained since birth and have been in a near constant state of war for ten thousand years, poorly supplied, but supplied with some of the most potent technologies and resources that are reasonable to quire in the setting.
The simple answer is that it is hard for normal people to write smart people. As such, all the author can really do is parrot "sneaky tactics", he has heard about and force the opposing side to fall for them.
Showing how dumb Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines sometimes are... the Alpha Legion could have killed the Dark Angels' Chapter Master and a lot of the 1st. Company... they could tried to take the Chapter Banner after the battle.
Yeah but taking the banner while they’re in the midst of battle would be a greater shame than losing it after they’re all dead. They wanted to humiliate them by taking their precious banner right out from under them. If they killed them all and then took it, it wouldn’t have the same effect.
In military history it is way more shameful to loose your colours aka your Banner than just gettin annihilated. That beeing said if they actually managed to do both that war would have been over some weeks later. Why you ask ? If you think 6.5 k angry rogal Templer boys screw you up try a freqkin LEGION descending on vraks as i severly doubt anything related to the Lion would not have immediatly dropped even the emperor and Set course for vraks.

People with no sense of military honor don't understand the importance of flags; be that country, state, organization, or unit. Losing your colors is the most grievous of offenses and is the greatest dishonor you can have. From the Roman Legionaries, to the French Grande Armée, to the modern military, and apparently 40,000 years into the future. Letting your eagle/guidon/colors get captured is very, very bad.
Regarding the Addendum... For all of the descriptions of the whole affair, if taken into account every other lore bit as well... It appears as if the SUPREME GRAND MASTER of the traitor Astartes chapter of Dark Angels wanted to make sure the Alpha Legion got the impression that he was making a mess of things and they could take him and his marines if they wanted to. Wasting time, resources and manpower like that would have no other explanation. The interesting bit is that, if this is considered, how surprised he was that the Alpha Legion had obliged. And seriously, Alpha Legion going for the chapter banner was idiotic as well. Up to this point the tally looks like: 88th Siege Army Command: Incompetant 88th Siege Army Ground Command: Overzealously wasting manpower Vraksian High Command: Somewhat Competant in theory utterly useless in implementation Dark Angels: Incompetant and counter productive Alpha Legion: Incompetant and idiotic I cannot wait for more to join the fray. I cant listen to him for anything more than 20. The way he speaks is incredibly annoying to me. It was funny the first time, but his sarcastic and flaunty tone and overused speech tropes always just usher me out of the video. The only thing that kept me coming back was the fact that even though the way he speaks is annoying, hes the only warhammer lore youtuber on this site that can tell a story instead of reading off the damn Wiki. I enjoyed his earlier videos more. I can agree with you (perhaps for different reasons) that hes taken the whole SJW slayer persona a bit far. 1 video defending the lore from rabid feminists is fine, if not funny, but it's not his strong suit, and I personally prefer him when hes talking about Warhammer lore.
@@snortingnesquik3470 to be fair, he speaks slow ok, but i feel it as having a person next to you, a friend telling a story rather than a guy speaking in the microphone. So the Death Korps of Krieg 88th Siege Army have, at this point, lost the lives of tens of thousands of guardsman in the mud, blood, and rain of Vraks for seven grueling years, and have been nothing but polite when requesting for reinforcements and more logical orders from High Command. Meanwhile, the Dark Angels have lost... what, 15, 20 Astartes and their fancy flag almost - ALMOST - got some dirt on it, then proceed to throw a hissy fit about "uncomfortable rates" of casualties. Oh, and they blow up the starport, thus not giving the siege army any benefits. Fucking Space Marines...
I'm no tactician, but seems like a right waste of resources leveling the bridges and the starport, unless those vehicles can fly knocking out one section of road span should be completely sufficient to cut off the starport and leave it possible to actually fix the damn thing for future use. I know the Dark Angels are big on operational secrecy, but it seems like they spent way more time and explosives than were remotely reasonable.
As an official Dark Angels representative, I need to correct the blatant misinformation present in this video. The Dark Angels are the most loyal legion/chapter in the history of humanity. The idea that there was some sort of incident during the Great Heresy in which half of the legion sided with the traitors and the legion home world had to be destroyed is absolutely absurd. The Dark Angels are so unbelievably loyal and trustworthy that such a thing would never have happened. The planet merely suffered an... unfortunate accident during the Heresy! That tragedy took the lives of half the legion, and our glorious Primarch changed the legion colors to green (it's the color of mourning on Caliban, I swear) and started referring to himself and the legion as the "The Unforgiven" because he felt guilty about... leaving the nuclear reactors running for too long! The Dark Angels are totally loyal and trustworthy, I swear! About the star port, you know who else liked Star Ports? Horus! Even the Council of Autocrats was in favor of star ports, so the men of Krieg should be grateful that the Unforgiven had the wisdom to destroy that heretical structure. There's a clear correlation between favoring Star Ports and heresy/treachery, hence why the Dark Angels (the most loyal legion/chapter ever known) demolished it. Don't be deceived by Alpha Legion propaganda, the Dark Angels are the most loyal sons of the Emperor!
The addendum was quite informative and appreciated as to the state of the book compared to your extensive knowledge. Wonderful series, Thank you and I am still REALLY enjoying the series.

i'm a writer and i know a lot about small unit tactics, actually when you write about something you better understand it well beforehand, increases the quality of the work ten folds, that's all there is about world building and research brother... the fun part of writing, learning in details...
I'm not saying anything about not researching the topic before you write. I'm saying that's probably what happened
Every author besides historians don’t know warfare and tactics
A liberty carefully explained and well thought out, and not hidden. Very well done old chap.
Showing how dumb Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines sometimes are... the Alpha Legion could have killed the Dark Angels' Chapter Master and a lot of the 1st. Company... they could tried to take the Chapter Banner after the battle.
badgamemaster you know...I was thinking that too the entire time
Yeah but taking the banner while they’re in the midst of battle would be a greater shame than losing it after they’re all dead. They wanted to humiliate them by taking their precious banner right out from under them. If they killed them all and then took it, it wouldn’t have the same effect.
Wrong the flag is more important
In military history it is way more shameful to loose your colours aka your Banner than just gettin annihilated.
That beeing said if they actually managed to do both that war would have been over some weeks later.
Why you ask ?
If you think 6.5 k angry rogal Templer boys screw you up try a freqkin LEGION descending on vraks as i severly doubt anything related to the Lion would not have immediatly dropped even the emperor and Set course for vraks.
Arch’s community is the only UA-cam community that doesn’t make me sick. All hail inquisitor Arch!!
I use these videos to help me sleep.puts me right to sleep and fuels my dreams sometimes
And they played capture the flag for a while.
I can tell by how many episodes of this series there is that things blow WAAAAAAAY out of proportions than expected
"Something's wrooong, I can feel it!" The entire siege of vraks in one sentence.
and 28:00 = "Finally, I knew it! This is the Alpha Legion after all." 36:20 = RotfL!
But their not Alpha legionares. They're iron hands.
They are what? I'm sorry but I don't understand who are suggesting it is.
@@lolroflroflcakes they lack the true ridiculous sabotage the actual Alpha legion is capable of and two none of them would use chaos weaponry.
@@barrybend7189 I'm sorry but I still don't get it who are you talking about? I'm fairly certain you aren't actually talking about the iron hands since the green assholes were the only astartes on the planet, everyone knows about their 'secret' internal issues.

such a fun series, Absolutely loving it Arch.
I would absolutely love more long and drawn out lore series like this arch.
Hang on Arch: there were *loyalist Astartes* at Vraks? I don't see any loyalist Astartes in this video!
C'mon, the Alpha legion were there...
Just because they don't act in the interest of the corrupt Ministorum, doesn't automatically make them traitors. Subverting an enemy like the denizens of the warp is far more effective than attempting to police trillions of people for wrong think after all.
Eyyyyyyyyy
What about Lord Arkos and his guys? They seem loyal
As I count as a follower of the first, that is heresy and our goal is to defend humanity, and for that role, it would be dumb to be blindly french poodle milk-toast Ultramarines, and Imperial Fists we will leave those bootlickers to fawn over the Imperium, we will just quietly keep mankind safe. Of course, we are secretive and Archaic. The First precedes the Imperium and the unification war on Earth, we fought alongside the EMPEROR and the Thunder warriors to unify Earth and wipe out the vile and perverted religions, belief, and faith. Heck, we precede Custodes and Astartes for heck's sake. If it was not for us, the IMPERIUM, HOLY TERRA, and you johnny come latelys legions would not exist. With us being such a long-running legion, who knows what secrets, missions and goals and what path the Emperor set us on before he had a hand-shandy and made Primarchs and Astartes from the goop

Dark Angels be like: "I've got a bad feeling about this..."
Dork Angels vs Alfa Troll Legion. Let them fight.
*_Howls grow closer_*
Thanks a lot for sharing this massive lore with us! Listened to every single episode and enjoyed it to the fullest.
A-Legion: Wanna see somethin cool?
D-Angels: Enh...sure why not?
A-Legion: HRRRRNNNNNGGGHHH!
(the alpha legion vanishes with no trace. No flicker of dust, no flash of warp energy, just a soft and simple
noise) *POP*
D-Angels: Hate it when they do that, gives me the willies.
(alternative dark angel response)
D-Angels: Bruh.
The Astartes also underestimate their mortal opponents, so that could be the reason for some of the chapter master’s blunders.
door to door fighting is dangerous, easy enough to place some krak grenades to a motion sensor so when the door opens boom. All it would take would be some know how from 1 alpha legion to show the grunts how its done.
To me it seems the Alpha Legion might've had access to the webway. It'd explain a lot.
*"We've Been Tricked, We've Been Backstabbed and We've Been Quite Possibly, Bamboozled"*
It's great. Even if you have read the books, know the stories etcetera etcetera, these videos put it all into a whole new, highly amusing light. Well done sir!

This series is simply the best one i am currently watching, i don't recall being so excited for a new episode of any series since i was like 9 years old
Where the fk have i been man this is fantastic you should have a spot on late night tv, you know one of those new free view channels :) with graphics and putting you in a generals chair. You get the picture ...
This is so good. It wouldve been better if you made this into something like a radio drama. Im so hooked.
Yessss been waiting all week for this!
Imperial Guard: "Leave anything for us?"
Dark Angels: "Just bodies"
The Alpha Legion has had an undisclosed amount of time to train those people.
Exactly, not to mention they’ve been fighting for years now and are certainly not the amateurs that started the rebellion
Up to this point the tally looks like:
88th Siege Army Command: Incompetant
88th Siege Army Ground Command: Overzealously wasting manpower
Vraksian High Command: Somewhat Competant in theory utterly useless in implementation
Dark Angels: Incompetant and counter productive
Alpha Legion: Incompetant and idiotic
I cannot wait for more to join the fray. I am sure some of them will be able to actually act like they know how to do something...
(wink, wink, nudge nudge, looking at you Red Scorpions)
Have the Dark Angels even heard of Sun Tzu?! Captured enemy resources are even more valuable than your own!
I misread that thumbnail as "War of Incels" and then I realized it was about the Dark Angels and I realized I was still correct.
Arch’s sentence structure and language tropes are a bit...shall we say.........repetitive.
But hey details
It is as the Emperor wills it... Or one of the more crafty Chaos Gods using it to indoctrinate you
And so good
he is the only youtuber i can listen to for 50 min at one go. he is a master in storytelling. even although i dislike his "sjw" videos with a burning passion, i love these lore videos. Especially his siege vids
His overreacting with spacemarine power and their opponents really stand out. But i can see why you wouldnt like. You need to make time for such videos. You Cant simply listen while gaming.
Imagine the sheer power, speed and brutality of enraged space marines fighting each other!
This is my favorite series on youtube right now. Fantastic.
And now to something completely different........

Peeerfect! I just got home from work. Much love here from the Philippines, brutha.
Will you ever fix the "arch" medallion to go with the rest of the prospective of the big 'ol bearded wise man's drawing?
I'm no tactician, but seems like a right waste of resources leveling the bridges and the starport, unless those vehicles can fly knocking out one section of road span should be completely sufficient to cut off the starport and leave it possible to actually fix the damn thing for future use. I know the Dark Angels are big on operational secrecy, but it seems like they spent way more time and explosives than were remotely reasonable.
"God damn fucking dark Angels" That was a good laugh.
I felt too that the battle was weird.. ty for the addendum
I sat through all the background... This better be good Arch.
Update- it was pretty good.
The addendum was quite informative and appreciated as to the state of the book compared to your extensive knowledge. Wonderful series, Thank you and I am still REALLY enjoying the series.
So glad my DA are getting more lore time.
I'm sure Papa Lion would just LOVE to hear about all this...
I don't know what is worst to come to your aid "honorable" knights of Caliban or Magpies
Black Templar Chaplain the calibani definitely the calibani, as the magpies actually help you and claim any loot they can from the dead of both sides
worst would be the grey knights, especially if your imp guard or sisters of battle. they tend to kill you afterwards to "protect their secert identities" or use your holy blood as a redundtant paint to protect vs choas
The Magpies, at least the knights of Caliban will leave you with your weapons if you need them for something that shows up after they leave, that and it is near impossible to get the Departmento Munitorum to resupply you if you are not from a place that supplies all your war equipment (like Krieg). And I wouldn't be surprised if the Munitorum punishes you for losing all that equipment if the Blood Ravens steal too much (up to and including execution).
@@mdb45424 let's not bring up that heresy of paint job or the mad heretic who came up with it

Yay new Vraks video!
I've watched all these Warhammer 40k videos (literally all of them) by Arch and so many by other creators...but I've never played any Warhammer 40k or roleplayed or read the books or even gotten into the Dawn of War games, but somehow months back I was directed to a random 40k video and found this stuff very interesting! I wonder if I'm a bit weird for learning SO DAMN MUCH about this fantasy universe when I haven't played any games/read any books set in it though haha.
About the addendum: It sounds like the author did not understand Astartes very well and was not sure what do do with them.
Fair fight are for suckers. :D
Every eldar in history.
For that mather any succefull commander in history :D
I dont know why but hearing arch warhammer say that in an approving tone brings a smile to my face :D
malaficus shaikan If you find yourself fighting a fair fight, someone’s fucked up somewhere
The tactical blunder i see in these writing is the same reason I cannot hate Elders, it almost feel like their poor diplomatic skill are the result of poor writing, just like tactical inaccuracy you see every now and than for space marines.
Trying to come up with a "fail state" for the "infallible" tends to create such writing issues.
You mean shooting your way through the Adeptus Custodes in order to deliver a message to the Emperor is poor diplomacy?
@@elysiankentarchy1531 won't that classify under tactical blunder that is seen in space marine too? Or it's just poor lazy writing trying to speed up event on how the eldar get near the emperor, to be honest that approach sound more like ork than any other race.
@@noirto2 To make clear these Eldar said they were diplomats and they had a message for the Emperor.
As for them acting like Orks... yeah it was the War of the Beast and that is an... odd book series (Arch actually dropped it because of how ridiculous it was getting, the Ecclesiarch worshiping Orks, Eldar thinking diplomacy means shooting the Custodes, the Inquisition taking the Eldar away after they were captured in the name of "inter-species friendship", and Terra's space being occupied by Orks, oh and the Imperial Fists were all killed). Personally I theorize the Ork's WAAAAAGH fields were making everyone more stupid.
@@elysiankentarchy1531 Guess the writer for these eldar and holy terra were trying to brute force the story forward, when they cannot come up with good idea of how create a clever series of event that connect it all together.
This happen way to often for eldar despite writer keep saying, eldar have hundreds of years perfecting their every discipline and they are suppose to be so subtle in their manipulation with ability to see the future that event are manipulated in their favor with minimal traces and detectable signs.
As a Dark Angels fan i'm pretty damned pissed at how they were portrayed in the Siege of Vraks.
I'm seriously waiting on the Alpha Legion to pull a "I have outsmarted your outsmarting" because they're Alpha Legion, and their entire existence are to be infuriating plot devices.
