You will need to put in a shutoff to the converter so when you plug in to your converter its not trying to charge your battery .

I agree. For the very near term, I plan on using the circuit breaker for that. I know that it’s not the intent or advised but I am on the fence on whether or not I am going to install a more permanent design. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey I've been watching your channel for a while, very good info! Maybe I missed it, but where is your solar charge controller? I live in a Lance 1181 pickup truck camper. I have 310 watts of solar & I also plug my 30 Amp rv chord into my inverter. I keep my fridge on propane. The only thing I always have to remember is to turn off my "converter" before I use my solar. I don't have a transfer switch. A good channel to watch is "Fate Unbound". They live in a travel trailer & have a great solar set up. Go to his Playlist & watch his solar install videos. Great info.
Take care & keep the videos coming. You've got great content.

Thank you for the kind words. The solar charge controller is on the panels themselves. They are 20 amp charge controllers. I have been following @FateUnbound for a long time and you’re right, they have great content. If you get time, also check out @WillProwse. He has some great stuff too.

@@HowToRV Tks, I've watched Will Prowse's videos too, they are great.

So will that battery power your 12V system as well without plugging in to the inverter to the shore power plug? This is very intriguing to be because it seems like an easier way to set it up that could be easily upgraded as well as moved to another rig as you shared.

It does. The 12V system runs as it would before. The inverter will allow me to run like I would from shore power and the solar helps with keeping the batteries charged. The system does have limitations and more videos to come about that.

The part i can't figure out is how you deal with feedback loop. Ie, if inverter is providing shore power, which will go to converter to charge bat, which is powering converter?

    • @markfowler6200

Yeah, tou need a switch, or better yet a relay, to disconnect the converter when you are operating the inverter. The battery powers the inverter powers the converter charges the battery. That’s a losing game, if you had no other load the converter and inverter have a steady state load that runs the battery down for no benefit. You need a switch on the AC input to the converter so you can turn the converter off when the inverter is on. You need to turn the inverter off when you don’t need AC power because it draws power from the battery even if there is no AC load.

I cut off the converter when plugged into the inverter. That way I am not waisting electricity for no reason. Good question
