For the press and seal or the tape, it helps to create an "edge" at the end by folding 1/4" or so over onto itself. That'll give you something to grab onto when you go to unwrap it, and the piece can still be re-used over and over again. I do this to any roll of tape that I have that's not in a dispenser (because I hate having to look for the edge to get it started). 😉😁
Hello! Another awesome video! I'm just sitting and hand quilting. I hope you have a delightful week ahead! Thanks for sharing!
I use the tape for my threads. Great!
Awesome!
Make a tiny folded overlap on the outside piece and you can use that to pull off.
I was going to add this same suggestion.
Thanks for the info about Glide Thread. That is my absolute favorite thread for top quilting. Didn't know about the thread "holder" on the spool! I use vet wrap or also named cohesive bandage to wrap spool. Works similar to press & seal, but more cloth like. I happened to have some on hand and it works great. Because it has a slight stretch to it also, I place my matching bobbin thread next to the spool and wrap both together. Because of the stretch, it keeps the bobbin snug against the spool.
I love Shirley!!!
You are the best!
thanks
Gutermann also can wind back on the spool .
👍❤️😊
Hi Kim, love your tips. I use a Janome M7 with its vertical spool holder and it is relatively new to me (my first modern machine). Does the telescoping thread guide obviate the need for a horizontal thread holder for crosswound spools and cones? I’m noticing that my Aurifil spools and Presencia cones seem to have some twisting of the thread. I don’t have much problem with breaks or shreds, but it does look like some twisting is occurring.
I have found that I use the vertical spool holder for all my threads - polyester, cotton, metallic, monofilament - and have had no problems. I do, of course, reduce the top tension with working with some of those special threads but otherwise it seems to work okay.
I find I have to reduce tension frequently. Usually I’m using Aurifil 50 wt. or Presencia 60. Thanks for that. I thought something was wrong. This could explain why using the regular bobbin case worked fine for me with FMQ. I bought the lower tension blue dot one, but it seems unnecessary if I have to reduce top tension.
I got netting from a florist work. ask them to save some.
Or... just wrap a piece of sticky tape/sellotape round it - at a fraction of the price!
