She was sick, then clearly free, long after the prologue. Clearly something nefarious was afoot. I bet dad & the Kraken were just the same person, and the Kraken kidnapped the Princess, then fought Canon / Jazzy Jay, then transformed back to dad-form to give some info out of guilt.
I'm not familiar with this vanni_van guy, but I like him a lot. Great host and confident entertainer, funny without being awkward and cringe.
