Yes, the trauma she experienced as a child affected her in such a negative way, here she is living with her trauma. Every single day.

It would be nice for her to write a book about her life. She is so talented at story telling, talking and expressing her thoughts.
The way she talks about how no man is able to be truly monogamous really makes you realize that even though in one way she has seen all sorts of people, in another way she has only seen a very narrow slice of society.

@@dr2599 a high iq does not stop a drug addiction. For whatever reason, some just delve in it more. It is a self destructive behavior. Maybe the less we care what others think.. Is why some delve in it more. There is something about personality, upbringing and so on. In my opinion. It could be that those that are more sensitive to what others think do overcome more quickly before going off the deep end with addiction.. Things of that nature. Seems to make sense to me.
For myself, I was addicted immediately after trying crank. But in about a year I lost everything... And then quit. Walked away from it. But my mom was known for quiting cold turkey, cigarettes. Pot, drugs and alcohol at a young age.. I am sure that had a impact on me. Etc
@d R ego is a slow and insidious killer. Lol I was top of my class in elementary and middle school, highest scores, fastest to be done and near perfect attendance despite living under the financial mismanagement and drug-use of my single (poor lol) mother at the time. I wasn’t exactly someone who gets their spirits lifted by compliments of people I don’t care about, I didn’t grow up with that kind of consideration or attention from my family, but when the teachers repeatedly complimented me about my small feats, i let it get to my head that the curriculum was so braindead easy that I lost motivation for it and neglected it. I got beat for it time to time but I didn’t really give a crap since my mom didn’t care about anything else involving me. Fast forward to high school, oh man I was so up my own arse that I literally didn’t try, and didn’t bother to look at my returned grades up until junior year, was flunking so bad that I had to go to a school for absolute dummies called “Remedial School”. The kids attending this remedial school are actually so stupid they had to be taught at the middle school level,even elementary level, the teachers talked to you like you were a little kid, and the homework was so simple it actually hurt the hell out of my pride. That was humbling 😂 I’m in college now pursuing a higher education in forensic science(honestly might move to mechanical stuff) thanks to attending remedial school 😂. I will never forget the shame and embarrassment of genuinely being treated as a elementary schooler in my 17th year of living. To me it was worse then the time I got beat up by a group of kids who spat on me afterwards, at least that situation I understood that it was because I was weak and incapable of being peaceful, only being harmless at the time.

It's overwhelming to even imagine the pain this woman has endured. She came into this world as a highly intelligent person with all the potential to be whatever she could aspire to. She's not evil - It's others that battered her whole being. It's a miracle she's survived. I pray she finds the peace she desires and stays safe.

I swear, this might be the best interview that Mark has filmed. She has endured a lot of pain in her life, but I really appreciate how candid she is about her life and is in relatively good spirits
that's not good spirits. She has become one with her pain. Her life has only ever been pain and she probably does drugs to get through it every day
She said she suffers from depression.

She mentioned always keeping "safe", so she might have the discipline to keep away from chronic drug abuse.

I'm a Korean adoptee as well, I can tell you, there are more cases like this out there. More than just a handful, where we fall into the wrong families... It sucks. Most of us were supposed to land in good families.
I have had heart to heart discussions with other adoptees as well, some being my friends, we all agree, we have a psychological and/or mental health disorders. I know me personally, I have been struggling with my social identity, I never fit in with my white friends and my Asian friends growing up. I never fit in anywhere.
I was harassed and bullied everyday of my life from Kindergarten through about 8th grade. I would just isolate myself and try and surround myself with good people.
I have a life coach and therapist, life is going good, but I will disclose, I'm a suicide survivor through all of this. Again, I just still will always have that feeling, "I don't belong here and I don't belong anywhere."
Just know, you are not alone and thanks for sharing your story, there needs to be more of us opening up about this.
there are good people out there that U need to surround yourself with,,,,U are much better than U think,,,it's a struggle, yes, but your life coach and therapist can show U the way, but it's up to you to take the right path,,,music is one of the best therapies, playing and/or listening,,,much love and hope for U😎

It's very hard for asians that are adopted by whites is alot to handle there caregivers don't look like them it must be very lonely
I had basically the same childhood as this woman. I am her daughter's age...
One of my older brothers sexually abused me when I was a kid, and when my family found out, everything went to hell. I was 9 years old when I burst into tears in front of my best friend and admitted to her what my brother was doing. She told our school counselor. The next day a police officer came to the school and asked me some questions, and when I went home my life changed... I will never forget the way my mom screamed at me when I came home, it sounded like a dying animal. Both of my parents didn't believe me even though my brother admitted to what he'd done- what he had been doing to me since I was 6. My parents couldn't accept the truth and would beat me and scream that I was lying, that I was asking for it, that I had seduced him. It was awful.
I started dating in my mid-teens to escape my home life. I just wanted to be loved. When you're a kid, all you want and all you need is to feel loved and safe and cared for, and at the time I didn't feel like anybody did. I ended up experiencing intimate partner violence multiple times in my mid teens to early adulthood because I was used to that sort of treatment. Being sexually and physically abused was what felt normal to me and I think I internalized the way I was treated when I was a kid. I self medicated with drugs and became dependent on them- they numbed the physical and mental pain. I couldn't imagine myself living past 18 years old. I was on a dark path with no resources to get out of my situation. When you're a kid in an abusive household, you have no way out: you are trapped with no money and no power to leave. Even when you're an adult and you have money and more control over your situation, you've internalized the idea that you're trapped and cannot leave.
I feel incredibly blessed and lucky that I was able to get out of it, and it wasn't because of anything within my control-- it was because I met a caring teacher at my high school who helped me get out of my situation. She found out I didn't have money for food so she started to bring me snacks during class. She gave me a ride when she saw me walking on the side of the road after my parents kicked me out. She healed burns on my leg after my boyfriend burned me with hookah coals. It took me a long time to tell her what was going on but I eventually did. I begged her to not report anything because my life had gotten so much worse after the last time the school got involved with my home life. She agreed on three conditions: that I stay in school, that I start going to rehab, and that I live with her. I agreed and I stuck to it.
None of my other teachers or any adult gave a shit about me but this teacher... She saved my life. There is no doubt in my mind that I'd be dead or in a horrible situation without the sacrifices and help she gave me, because there was no way I could have gotten out of that horrible situation by myself. People are always saying "why don't you just leave" to survivors without understanding that its extremely difficult, nearly impossible to leave an abusive situation when its in the home. You don't have the financial, social, or mental capital to get out of there and carpe diem.

And definitely those stup+d people saying : why don't you just leave have no clue, even as an adult these things broke you, impacted you entirely and you still need some support system to get out of it just like many people working themselves half to death with two jobs for basic survival and someone just throws at them : well change job then 😑 first it's as if changing jobs was that easy like trying a different juice (no applications to fill out, not time consuming etc...) + not everybody had the privilege & luxury to an education and is qualified to be a lawyer, ingenior or surgeon etc..../ It's absolutely unrealistic & ridiculous !!!

I think this one’s my favourite interview so far. She’s so honest, witty and unapologetic. It’s heartbreaking to know that our destinies are heavily dependent on the family we were raised in. She was dealt a bad hand, but I’m glad that she found her own ways to live. I wish her all the best.

Yeah, never take any interviee at face value, especially when there is a massive disconnect between her attitude and circumstances.
I know people who take a stiff upper lip so seriously they'd put a positive spin about being hurled into a volcano, but they're not okay.
I would give anything to have a woman like her. She deserves so much love, care, protection and acknowledgement. Even though she knows what she wants to be in life, she still never received the type of love that every human being needs. She's so incredibly intellectual and articulates her emotions in such a gripping manner. I truly believe she was meant for something better in life.
Many fell in love with her, maybe wanted to fix her....I wish that was enough.

This woman is so, so interesting. Her insights on the sex industry are incredibly eye-opening, and she does an amazing job at articulating what the world of sex work is like. She's definitely a natural-born storyteller.

By and large, I think the general public has no clue of the sex industry beyond having seen Pretty Woman so anything from reality, a sex worker, film star, psychologist, pimp, is going to be "incredibly eye-opening".
Love this interview. I'm a Korean adoptee at 6 months w white parents in Colorado, but totally opposite childhood, so it's heartbreaking to hear your story Genevieve. "Maybe I was pretty, but I didn't know that...." Love this quote...totally embodies what it's like to be Asian in a white society. Love the way you carry yourself, such a great storyteller. I was a one man army by 12 yrs old. Im Japanese American and was the only non white kid in my county, i got mercilessly bullied and beat up until i hit puberty in between 4th and 5th grade. I grew 8' during summer vacation over 2 months and went from being timid and shy (went through some BS to) , to having a super bad temper and the first week back to school i beat the brakes off the biggest toughest 6th grader. After that it was rare that people messed with me and when they did id launch crazy hard punches off there domes lol. Eventually in 7th grade i had a reputation as being a serious fighter and i was tossing around 12th graders. I had a serious temper and id snap on bullies. This kid picked on a nice girl because she had a cleft lip, and i cracked his head open off a locker i never got told on for some reason or id slick talk my way out of trouble saying i was defending myself lol. It took years for me to calm down.

It broke my heart to see her expose her body with all those scars. Such misery put on this woman. She says she does not believe that any man can be monogamous. She can only see through her own perspective, and it shows. There are plenty of men who are, can be, and will be monogamous. Men are also more sentimental than she probably realizes.
Exactly what I thought! She clearly isn't exposed to men that aren't into that type of lifestyle. Of course if she's constantly exposed to men that cheat then she will just start thinking all men cheat. I hope the best for her truly.

@Daphne Van Zant i agree with you... that like, with the path she's led, what i'm saying is more fantasy than grounded. i'm just talking ab her personality. she is smart and this may not have been the path meant for her b/c it was soiled from the start. sadly, it's true for many, but you see it so clearly in a bright individual (but i agree, i took much of what she said with a grain of salt b/c she speaks from her own experiences).
When she said, before I really even knew what sex work was, I knew I was destined for it. - That hit me hard. I kinda always had that same feeling as well and also a lot of trauma in childhood..... I struggled with leaving sex work and getting off heroin for 20 years. I've got almost 2 years sober from both now and finally living life.

I'm also a recovering h addict and sex worker with a history of being abused and I know first hand how hard it is to even realize you deserve to crawl out of this hole in the first place, much less actually doing it and you have every reason to be proud of yourself💖

I am doing much better than I was just 2 years ago. I have my own place, a decent boyfriend, 2 rescue dogs, I'm sober, I have a job and I see my son every day. I'm so much happier than I ever thought possible.
She is sweet but this life-i know it but i decided to quit all things that hurt me in any way as good as i could.Can't imagine staying in the streets and with the scars i would think that nobody wants me cause of it!I often wonder what type of man they get&how much they really pay.I have learned that a woman is sexy when she looks good&with great hair,body&skin.I always take a bit away 4myshelf&so iam very thankfull to hear&see woman which yust don't care that much.Thx 4this it was a great interview!Wanted to see&hear more from her.

It's entirely fair. We're all making decisions in this world and we're responsible for our decisions. If you choose that kind of life, then there's no point in reality that you should expect any different.
It's not true. There are lots of good and moral people who care what happens to anyone, sex workers included. But when you live in a country where prostitution is illegal, then those prostitutes have to live in the criminal world, not exactly a supportive environment you could say

Heartbreaking..l grew up in children's aid l hate them all .We were nothing but workhorses and a paycheck for them. Thank God l have a Wonderful life now.
God.... Listening to her talk through the grades she skipped, she is clearly very intelligent. I skipped first grade, as did my son, so I know that schools don't do that lightly, not at all.

she is happy in her profession and has a tattoo saying she was born to porn. It is hard for you to understand and accept that, but you should do it instead of feeling pity for her. Because this exactly what removed that smile from her face at the end. The image that society has about hoes.

From the moment she opened her mouth I could tell she was very intelligent. I hope she gets wherever she wants to go. She deserves better than what she got. Her parents should be ashamed of themselves.

That system does not exist.
It is, unfortunately, very common.
There are amazing adoptive families, but there are a lot that have at least one person in the household that is primed to be abusive in some form.
Another problem is when a foster family takes in multiple kids and at least some come from abusive backgrounds. You have kids who did not grow up together, and some of whom are at high risk to abuse or be abused, together in one home.
That's very risky...especially when the family is taking in multiple fosters for the extra stipends, and they get past where they can really give their full attention to the situation. Even loving and well intentioned foster parents can end up accidentally facilitating some very bad situations.
Society is FCKED UP.

A lot of what she’s saying I’ve heard many times from other adoptees, the abuse, the feeling of not fitting in. ALSO, parents in places lie were Korea were promised their kids would have a better life, and honestly, it’s not always the case. She was ABUSED by a family promised to protect her, her own family.
As another transracial adoptee, this just goes to show adoption doesn't "save lives" - to tell adoptees "you should be grateful" or "your parents saved your life" is fucked up and dismissive of that adoptees lived experiences. Adoption stems from family separation, trauma, pain, displacement, loss. Most times birth mothers are forced to give up their children. Adoption isn't what people make it out to be.

As an Asian woman living in Denver, it hurts to see how such a beautiful, intelligent, woman like Genevieve, who looks like she could be a relative, was tragically abused as a child. Had she been loved and treated with respect, she probably wouldn't be out on the streets. She's a survivor and has had to survive on her own. I worry about her safety and ability to provide for herself when she's older.

It's fascinating that she speaks of her young child being killed in a drive-by, and herself getting stabbed almost to death, in a very calm and matter-of-fact way. Like it was just another day on the streets, whereas it would be life-altering and completely devastating to any of us.

It's sad that people see that as the case. Having a loving and caring home is literally the bare minimum. Life is so much more complicated than simply being raised right or not. This is like saying it's a "privilege" to have a spouse that doesnt cheat. Like nah, that's the barest of minimums.

It would be great to say it is the bare minimum but children can't control the actions of their parents. Damn, this interview was so insightful. This woman is so intelligent and incredibly perceptive. You have to wonder if there's an alternative universe where she's a doctor or a lawyer.
Definitely…in a healthy, supportive, financially stable family or one with legitimate connections, most of us who made our way in the streets would have done it somewhere else. Kids do what they know. You’ve got to protect them, expose them to good things, model or explain how to find those opportunities, and tell them they can do it. Some of my family said, “You can be anything you want to be,” but that’s not enough. Without guidance, it’s just pressure. My friends whose parents got up and went to professional jobs every day are now doing the same things. Those of us who saw people using drugs or hustling often fall back on that, in a pinch. It’s not always enough to know what NOT to do, if you’ve never seen people close to you do something else.

Gabor Mate states that adult dysfunction is invariably the result of childhood trama. Even one negative experience can cause a lifetime of depression. Watching him on youtube and reading his books helped me a lot. I wish this lady the best. She is bright her life would have turned out differently if she had loving, stable, secure childhood.
He can't be right about that. People are more mentally well and functional in developing countries where childhood trauma is a given. People throughout history didn't have these issues and many of them faced extremely volatile daily life just trying to get enough to eat, and often at risk of being raided by enemy tribes or states where unspeakable violence would be done to them through no fault of their own.

A psychiatric RN of 30 years I was so impressed with this woman’s intelligence and her ability to express herself. Her brutal honesty and insightfulness of her behaviors and actions expressed the reality of human nature of people we tend not to acknowledge in our lives.

Her “adoptive” parents did this to her. The vast majority of adoptive parents are loving, but evil people adopt and foster children also. She is just 1 example of what happens with abusive parents, adoptive or biological. Don’t judge people who have been raised badly from childhood, you could never understand their pain or perception, unless you were raised the same way. God bless.

It's truly unfortunate she wasn't afforded a better environment. A professor at a prestigious university came to mind - it's what I believe she could've been. I'm pretty shocked by all the comments on here. The girl is an absolute mess and in total denial about the catastrophic effects of childhood abuse. That's not honesty that you see, but a complete loss of self. She has completely given up thinking there are any other options for her and is rationalizing acceptance of her life to keep depression at bay.

When she says men can't be monogamous, that is just the same self confirmation bias over and repeating. And love "never" lasts? I know people married all their lives and their love deepens. So anything she says is simple her perception and self reflection.
If countries legalized sex work, then life would be much safer for women like this, since they could work within the legal system instead of hiding from the law. It's sad that we criminalize prostitution rather than letting people earn a living.

I worked as a janitor in Hawaii as a young kid at club Huba huba through high school after they were closed i would go in and talk to some of the ladies who were getting ready to go home as i cleaned up the place. some of these girls were saving up to go to college, intending to pay cash,

The happy cases of kids who get adopted by genuine do gooders are a ridiculously tiny fraction, and still god only knows what happened to those kids until that moment. It is depressing to be a woman. Oftentimes you are seen as a second class citizen. Just sorrowful on all levels. Don't let anyone beat you down, learn to live yourself; that is key.

i heard somewhere that depression may be a natural protective response of the body to certain stimuli. i don't know if there's much research to back that up but it's maybe a novel and insightful way to look at the condition

This is my favorite interview, she is somehow relatable even when recounting these unimaginable events. I’d love for her to start a podcast or something recounting her stories or things in the industry, I think it would be a hit.

She has a real deep understanding of the world around her. Her self awareness is at such a level that can provide a sound analysis. These qualities are golden to excel any hustle game. It's just so sad she keeps surrounding herself around bad people and bad places. Put her in a suit and a corporate/business world she would be a high level executive maybe a CEO!
Coming from a similar background as her, and having come out the other side, I'm always a bit shocked by the comments who says these people are intelligent and self aware. She's a drug addicted, prostitute living on the streets. That's the bare truth. She needs to get help, clean and sober. Then she'll find herself again. You can't do that while you're actively involved.
It’s a confidence abt knowing herself and you can see she enjoys sharing with ppl. Going on a date with her would be great without any sex! I wish more women were like that and I’d be more than happy to spend time with ppl like that

My husband and his late wife were going through adoption and were given the 3rd degree and given a hard time while going through the process. It never happened because his wife died of a rare blood disease. I often hear about the terribly abusive adoptive parents like Genevieve's are/were. I'm blown away.
I see Genevieve as a doctor, or someone with a good paying job/career. I believe she could accomplish this.

It breaks my heart to hear her put herself down, she clearly has the voices of abuse in her subconscious. She--THE VICTIM-- was scapegoated by her "family". Outcomes for abused, neglected and abandoned children are not good. Just bc you're adopted doesn't mean you'll land with good people . Sometimes I think the higher the IQ, the worse the outcomes can be.
After hearing that she was smart enough to get into highschool at 11, my heart sunk.Potential like thats creates some of the brightest minds we have in society. She had so much potential that was just beaten down by her abusive family. Makes me absolutely sick to my stomach.
I feel like I want to start a GoFundMe for this incredibly intelligent, articulate and insightful woman to pay for long-term therapy and a college education (if she was open to it); because she deserves so much more in life. She could do anything. Absolutely anything. And it is so heartbreaking that she believes to her *core* that sex work is all she is worth. She should be giving a Ted Talk, not speaking about how she sees herself “whoring” herself out into old age because that was what she “put on earth to do.” 😢💔

I don't know. She basically said she enjoys the sex, and I don't doubt her. We can read too much into things - if she says she enjoys it, why not take her at her word? But I agree, she's very intelligent, and she could do almost anything.
