I put one in my bathroom because the room was so small. It took a while for me to get all the leaks fixed, but It's been in there for a few years now and works great. I don't know much about being a plumber, but it works. I probably should have put a horizontal attachment board in the wall behind it. I did remove the sheetrock and replaced it with cement board and then used big toggle bolts to hold the sink. Hope it keeps working. It feels secure.

Thanks for the info Jim and I also talked to my mailman and decided a pedestal sink is not for me 😂

Thank you for your advice. Build my own house and mounting the pedestal sink in a half bath was easy and installing the plumbing went great being a small flexible guy but now that I’m older I could see it not as easy for sure. We like the way it looks, clean, simple. My thoughts are that installing a complete water filtration and softening system was a lot of hassle.

Here's my method in dealing with the thing:
    Removing:
-Turn off water and unfasten supply lines
    -Undo drain connection to wall
-Undo lag bolts securing sink basin to wall
-Pull sink with pedestal attached slowly outward
-Lift sink from pedestal carefully as there is water still in the p-trap then drain into a receptacle
    - Can now service sink components
    Installing:
-Assemble all water supply and drain components to sink
    - Carefully position sink onto pedestal and slowly slide entire unit close to wall
-Make sure end of p-trap lines up with the wall drain pipe and mounting holes for sink
-Use pegs in holes to help guide sink into position while checking alignment of p-trap with wall drain while slowly pushing entire unit towards the wall making sure everything is fitting correctly.
-Secure sink to wall with lag bolts
    -Tighten fastener to wall drain
    -Attach water supply lines
-Turn on water and test for leaks (There were a few in my case 🙄)

    Agreed. Always unpleasant to install.

I’m thinking the most common reason for installing a pedestal sink is the small size of the bathroom. If style is not an issue what does the Grumpy Plumber think of the lavatory that’s made into the tank cover? Seems to me it might be something to consider for something like a shop bathroom.

Nice work, Jim! Pedestal sinks suck. Fairy sinks. If you don't believe me ask your proctologist. Stay safe. Thumbs up.

how do I know if the pressure relief valve on the hot water heater has gone bad, as opposed to just doing it's job and just relieving pressure?

I put one in my 3/4 bath for the exact reason that there was no foot room. I did have the foresight to put a 2x4 in the wall to mount to however the plumbing is a b*tch. Ratcheting wrenches are your best friend for that install and maybe take the extra time to put a little silicone in all the trap connections. Sure compression drain fittings are supposed to work, but do they? Yeah........exactly. Now after 3 years something fell in the sink and cracked it and the wife as decreed that it has to be replaced. Sigh.......yes dear.

Yeah, they are a PITA, but we had to do one in our home so my dad could use the facilities in our home with his wheelchair. Definitely don't do it for esthetic reasons.

Well, there’s the fruit, the squeezing and the juice, right? Yes, pedestal sinks are more challenging and more difficult to install than vanity sinks. That is a fact.
In my opinion, pedestal sinks with their minimalist lines are more attractive. I have both in my house and I don’t know…vanity cabinets just become these Black Holes of Calcutta where everything gets stashed in there. I expect to open one of my vanity cabinets one day and find where Jimmy Hoffa is buried…

Pedestal sinks suck. The individual who voluntarily installs a pedestal sink also has too many scented candles, an inspirational quote decal over their dining room table and apparently duckwalks to the linen closet when they run out of poo tickets. People with pedestal sinks are trying to hide something and I much more trust the household with the $89 Glacier Bay vanity with extra TP, two sets of pliers and the August 1992 Penthouse in it.

If at all possible I break loose the bathroom sink and pull it up enough to change the faucet. Yes, a lot of new faucets are coming with supply lines these days, but be ready if they are not long enough.
