Where I’m from those are called prickly pears they one of my favourite fruits. Just be careful the brown dots have little hairs that if touched can go into your skin and cause irritation.

Pro tip . Steal the leaf of a cactus and grow it that way . It's much faster. Whenever we move we always just take a couple of leafs with us place it on the ground at the new house with a brick on top and water it a little. In a couple of days it'll have sprouted Roots and then after its grown out we enjoy a massive supply of turksvye (aka prickly pears) . We live in South Africa with a warmer climate than Canada but my point is we've farmed our own prickly pears since before I was born. We farm it for personal consumption but if we were to sell them we'd probably make a profit as here in South Africa a pack of 6 is very expensive considering the fact that you can just pluck a cactus leaf in the field and grow your own cactus and get your own prickly pears. They are very low maintenance so you can just forget about them and just give them water every now and then.
I just read that if you have bug problems with your plants, you should place banana peels and fruit at the base. The pests hate the smell and abandon ship!
Eastern prickly pears are ones the worlds most cold hardy cactus they survive very cold temperatures there native to northeast USA and can probably grow in Canada maybe with protection and make edible fruits.
I want to hear what other gardeners think of the soapy water trick. I hate fungus gnats, but I don't want to burn the roots. I notice you left some soil on there. Did you rinse after 5 minutes or some other period of time?
How long did it take to sprout in the paper towel? I’ve tried the paper towel method and after 3 weeks nothing happened, it actually got moldy so I threw it away. I did it again but still nothing happened. I’m confusion
I don't even know where those seeds came from , few days ago i noticed them growing on my rain lily flower pot. I didn't immediately pull them out since they looked cute. Now i see.... I remember I ate a dragon fruit few months ago lol, by any chance it couldn't be grown magically from that right ?😂
Looks like my dragon fruit cacti. Love ur videos !! U just answered a question for me, how to safely bring in plants for the winter without all the bugs…. So thank u🌵🪴🫶🏼
This fruit is not common where I come from. I have tried it here once and didn't understand it. The seeds were too tough to eat, but the "fruit meat" that surrounds the seeds was very little and tasted just sugary. Is it how it is supposed to be?
I tried to grow my own cactus but it doesn't work I mean it did actually grow but once it became like a sprout it automatically dies idk why though I was offering all the thing that it needs to grow but it just die for no clear reason
Use clippers and try to take as little of the seed as possible and just clip it. They have an impermeable seed coat that has to get damaged to germinate.
@@COVID-19_Crab thank you so much!! It started growing outta nowhere in my aloe vera pot lol! I was so confused cuz I've never seen a cactus like this before

Wow I have never heard anyone call these tuna. I've lived in Arizona my whole life where we have cacti growing nearly everywhere. Always known these as prickly pear! Interested to know where the word tuna is used 🤔
You will probably never have that farm where you live. Land is so expensive there! Move somewhere else. Literally if you just move one state over the land price will go down.
Oh hey, I thought about you the other day when going through Jessie's videos. There is a video where she at least attempted to sprout an almond seed. I can't remember if it was a short or a regular video. I'm gonna look for it...."I'll be back" (imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger voice) ...or, "I shall return!" (imagine General MacArthur voice)
@@Saohesc You haven't been watching this channel that long, I'm guessing. Most of the things she tries growing aren't exactly feasible for where she lives, but she'll at least try to grow a sprout or sapling or whatever. Let's see if we can grow something from......uh, this Starbucks drink, etc. Her "why not try" attitude is very inspiring for me.

Here we call them the same thing but there are a lot of Hispanics here in Florida so they are also called nopal fruit
@@billysbigworld6166the fruit is called tuna in Spanish. The pads are called nopal.
looking forward to the UPDATE👹
One of the seeds looked like a heart! ❤️
Yeah!
I noticed that!
We also eat the "leaves", they are called "nopales". Cook them in salty water, rinse and add chopped raw onions, cilantro and tomatoes 😋
They make bomb tacos
They're really good! I grilled mine topped with fresh salsa
I put them on nachos.
si los nopales tan bien ricos verdad?

Tuna in English is a fish
In Spanish tuna is a fruit
In English tuna is called prickly pear
Tuna! Yummy ❤
Very beautiful ❤
Wait you can put exposed roots to soapy water? Isn't it like bad for the plant??
why did I think they meant seeds from inside a tuna FISH
Those lil spikey sprouts are so cuteeee!
İ LOVE your voice 😇
Those prickly pears grow everywhere in Texas and are like a weed to the point that if a pad falls on the ground it most likely will root

Why is this the first thing I see right after coming in from cleaning up cactus that has taken over our entire front yard?
Hey my dad likes those you actually love them also my little also my big brother and all of them I was about to say my little brother
Why does it have to be soapy water? Won’t plain water flush away bugs?
I’m currently growing some, does the sprout part of the cactus fall off or do I have to remove it? Also do u have to re plant the cactus part?
Bro I legit tried to grow that like 3 months ago didn’t work but I’m gonna try againt
I don't think putting putting roots in soapy water (which is a lye) is a good idea
Dawn probably won’t injure the roots.
Wow that's so cool I never knew u could do that
We call them Barbary Figs here, Barbary used to mean "Foreign" but you could say it's also pretty barbaric when your hands are full of splinters
Nopal cactus 🔥
A tuna? Sushi chefs would be intrigued 😂
these are opuntia and they grow very slowly, they will grow fruits after 4-6 years

Tuna is its Spanish name (in most Latin American countries). It comes from the Taíno language.
México, right south of you. Says something about Arizona (another Spanish word), doesn't it?
@@blackeyedsusan727 no idea what you're getting at

Pls adopt me I will go half on a farm 😂
Not sure what you meant by taking “cacti to cactus.” i is plural, us is singular…🧐
i couldnt eat it, its seeds are everywhere, theres more seeds than the cactus fruit itself
That's the fun with eating it 😄 it's so yummy 🤤
Love your stuff but that miraclegro cactus soil is low tier crap.
Why is it called a tuna ? Does is taste of tuna ? Do you taste of tuna ?

a (supposedly) grown woman talking like a little child or what is this strange manner of speaking supposed to be?
.. why would they name a fruit after a fish? Seems a little odd… 😂 here’s another one I didn’t know existed
The word gira beyond the US, tuna (the fish) in México is called Atún, so no, it's not named after a fish.
Lol, I grew some prickly pear seeds in 1992, also in Canada , 30 years later I have huge and heavy plant with super irritating thorns. Be careful!
