Vater sticks, Maple, Hickory and Maple, feel like no other Stick company on the planet. They feel good and strong. Just switched to Vater this week from Vic Firth and am just stunned and amazed at the difference.
Followed you in changing sticks, made the change from Zildjian to Vater, and it DEFINITELY paid off. I now use the Vater Power 5A Hickory sticks. Thanks Kristina!!
Super cool to have you in the family, Kristina. Welcome, once again! One additional thing that plays into everything you're speaking of here is that Vater has a higher moisture content than most other stick companies. This makes them a little bit heavier, and a lot more durable. Might also be a factor as to why you felt the need to go for the maple sticks! Enjoy! :)
Kristina I love you and your videos so much! I started drumming 6 months ago after watching your videos for 7 months. I always watch all of your videos and you're my idol. I love you! Xx
I spent years finding my stick. I went through all the big brands Vic Firth, Vater, Zildjian and Pro Mark. Didn't use Ahead not my thing. In all the sticks I was only able to buy 5a or 5b sticks. I found Pro Mark ok with Zildjian. Vater were good but I kept breaking the tip. The wood would split from the inside and the break. So I had a newish stick with no tip. Vic Firth just piped it, until I played the Zildjian Taylor Hawkins signature sticks. I don't play that often now because of the dog sadly. Still they get a work out every time I do play. They last me months and months. The tip will chip before the stick breaks. When I played them I knew they were the stick for me. I'm partial to the Dave Grohl sticks as well. I do use Vater grip tape and I love it. Nice and strong, the grip lasts longer than the stick. Plus they are thicker than other tape I have used, makes them more comfortable whilst playing.
I'm a hard hitter and I play a lot of different genres including metal. These sticks have lasted me almost a year so far. They don't break. They're really great.
Emily Merrell: I have a bunch of 7AN Vater sticks from when I played drums in a pop rock band (we only played in the guitar player's basement!! Ha ha.). I beat the hell out of them sometimes and that was in the mid-nineties. I still have all ten pairs!
I've wanted to play drums my whole life, but my parents can't afford drums or lessons, so I ordered a practice pad and I love it SO MUCH! Thank you so much Kristina for your inspiring videos, I hope I can play as good as you one day 😊
Those quick release nuts are awesome! I've been using them for years. Makes tearing down your kit even faster! Enjoy!

Check out the Mike Mangini Wicked Piston drum stick. They're as thick as a regular 5b, but at 3/4 up, they get thicker, so it makes it top heavier, so you hit harder without having to hit harder. At first they feel weird, but then they're so comfortable.
I absolutely love Vater sticks. I have 4 pairs and they last a long time. Not a single one of them have cracked since the first day I bought them, and I play a little of everything when I warm up before a session.
I've been experimenting with different sticks, and love the feel of the Sugar Maple Power 5b, but I really wanted something with a ball tip. As you said, they make the drums (and especially ride cymbal) sound so much punchier and clearer. I'm definitely gonna try out the Concert sticks now. Congrats Kristina! and thanks for turning me on to a new stick!
@Sam Combs I actually have a pair of Vaters I am a Vic firth guy though. I personally love and use the Vic firth 2B’s. The 2 Vic firth sticks I use are the 2B’s and Danney Carey’s signature sticks. They are the best sticks I have ever used. The vaters I have are the H-220’s Josh Freese signatures. I hope to get endorsed one day by Vic firth. Here are my stick ratings 1.Vic firth 2.Vater 3.Promark 4.Zildan 5.Pulse
Thank you for inspiring me to come back to be a drummer. I started playing drums in middle school but was too nervous and distracted by guitar. I just graduated college and starting a cover band with my brother with me drumming. Your personality and videos helped me find my idendity behind the drum set and know that their is a reason why I should play music.
Your enthusiasm for drumming is just so contagious! I got so excited when I found a tiny practice pad and a pair of sticks in my basement lol. I'm way to nervous to use my dad's set, but AGH I just get so damn inspired every time I'm on you're channel! When I get further into the drumming world, I'll be sure to give Vater gear a try! Thanks man!
I love the Vater sugar maple sticks!!!! Check out the Mike Johnston series, so far it's my favorite stick, but I just ordered a bunch of random sticks, all sugar maple...... can't wait to get them in. Been using Vater sticks for about 15 years, love them!!!!!!
Vater drums sticks are awsome i use them for a while now and they improved my playing significantly by the way keep up the good work krisrina you are awsome
Vater can thank you, I just went to Vater web site and ordered some Sugar Maple Concert sticks. I was using Vic Firth American Classic ROCK but wanted something a little lighter with the same diameter. Thank's Kristina!!!
I've played 5A for a long time, I went up to a 5B hickory, but am struggling a bit with the extra weight and thickness ?. Might try a 5B in the maple to see if this would be the better option ?.
I use Vater Fatbacks and I play and practice 4+ hours a day! I would never play another brand since I have switched! Vater stands up to my heavy/hard playing style and I have saved soooo much money since I have switched 5 years ago.
Awesome! Congratulations! I recently picked up a pair of Los Angeles 5A's and they felt great due to the short taper and front heavy feel. I was playing Vic Firth 5b's for years but these sticks make me play with ease and power! They do seem to me tougher too.
Hey Kristina, been watching your vids for a while now. You are FAN-TASTIC! Keep up the good work. Nice to see you using Vater sticks, too. I'm a Matrix guy, myself. They make my 22" Dream Bliss ride sound so good!
Your videos help inspire me to get better at playing. I'd really like to see a good comparison video of a completely acoustic no mic or editing side by side with what your normally do maybe half a song each. I do not have as nice of a set up and helps me to better understand what you are doing. I'm far more used to raw playing sounds and dynamics. An idea that could help more then just myself possibly. Grr you sure are Purdy too aha.
Hey Kristina if you want to stop breaking sticks make sure you hold them with the wood grain going vertical. Just look at the back of the stick, if the grain is going side to side, you'll break them! :-)
You got hooked up big time with that Vater Care package. Seriously...big time! I wish they would send me some love. I have been using their sticks for well over a decade now.
I decided to learn play drum, so I got not a long ago exactly the same type of Vater practice pad as yours. I am not experienced but I think this is a very cool stuff. Thank you this review and all amazing drum cover and thanks for the motivation and inspiration as well. :)
CALEB MC I use Vic 7a and my friend Dennis Chambers sticks ,try goodwood 7a make by Vater great stick feel great and the price is great 12 pair for 29.99
Between your vids and a few other channels, I'm seriously considering getting another kit and starting drumming again... haven't played in about 10 years.
I play Vater stick as well. I usually play my sticks until they chip enough for me to buy new ones. With Vater, you don't really have to buy sticks that often because they last longer.
I like them a lot as well. I use a 2B stick. They feel awesome when playing, probably one of the best on the market and they have good durability. I just can't afford them. I use Sound Percussion sticks from Guitar Center b/c they are more affordable. I go through a lot of sticks b/c I play a lot.
For a long Long time, I carried the banner for Vic Firth sticks. But I found they don’t have the stick I was looking for. But Vater does. I wanted a big stick in between a 5B and a 2B, 16 1/2 inches long, and maple. I found that in the Power 5B sugar maple. But I might give the Concert a try soon. #SwitchToVater
Jesh. Never really thought of all that. I've been playing since I was in 8th grade and I'm 33 now. I just always picked the one that fits nicely in my hand. I think I use a pretty small stick. Like a 7A or maybe it's 5A. Mostly all hickory. I do have a preference of tip. I do wood and ball as well. I tried nylon tips but they mark up your cymbals too much imo.
I'm saving up for my for my first kit, and being a female you freaking rock. I'm so lucky to have stumbled upon your channel. Keep up the awesome work girl!
Congrats Kristina. I am curious though as only two years ago you were singing the praises of Headhunter sticks. Was headhunter bought out by Vater or did you switch? If Vater is supporting you as an artist that's awesome. I 'm all for it.
This makes me wonder how much easier these are to keep a grip on. I've used Yoshiki Tama (Japanese, but awesome), Vic F's (way too fat) and Zildjian's (good size, but way slick), but these giant hands slid sticks across rooms.
Would you maybe consider doing a cover of a Skillet song? Like Whispers in the Dark, Out of Hell, Open Wounds, Sick of It, or Circus for a Psycho? I'm not sure if you're familiar with them but Jen Ledger is their drummer and is also a talented female drummer like yourself.
Thanks for the info Kristina i will have to check them out but i know i will never give up my Pro-Mark Neil Peart 747 sticks. All though they say change is good so you never know!
Dude 7a is almost as thin as it gets. You should play with whatever size you are comfortable with the most, but if i were to give advise, i would suggest you try thicker sticks. They would last longer and give you more power as you are playing metal
I have a little challenge for you Kristina! Can you try to play/make a video on you playing Rewind from the ban Leprous? Would have been cool! Ps: You are awesome on drums! Keep up the good work!!!
I hope this video is sponsored and that they paid you a lot of money for this. You deserve it! It's so unfair that UA-cam drummers make nothing from their covers!!!!!! All that hard work for nothing in return :( you work so hard and you're such a fucking amazing drummer u deserve everything!!!!!
Vater sticks, Maple, Hickory and Maple, feel like no other Stick company on the planet. They feel good and strong. Just switched to Vater this week from Vic Firth and am just stunned and amazed at the difference.

Roger Carter likes moisture

You too! Keep up the good work :)
My main play style is punk/ska.

Awesome! Wicked gear! But I still prefer Vic Firth over Vater but Vater would be my 2nd choice if I didn't have Vic Firth
Same Vic is King Vater is 2nd!
Nice!

I haven’t tried Vater yet, but so far it is a very close race between Vic firth and los Cabos.

I just graduated college and starting a cover band with my brother with me drumming. You're dialed in ... love my Vater drumsticks ... welcome to the club!!
Your enthusiasm for drumming is just so contagious! I got so excited when I found a tiny practice pad and a pair of sticks in my basement lol. I just got a pair of Vater sticks, I like them!

Great unboxing video you made Kristina those stuff looks awesome.
I've played 5A for a long time, I went up to a 5B hickory, but am struggling a bit with the extra weight and thickness ?. Might try a 5B in the maple to see if this would be the better option ?.
I recently switched over from the Vater 2b to the Tim Alexander signature maple sticks and theyre pretty sweet.
I use Vater Fatbacks and I play and practice 4+ hours a day! I would never play another brand since I have switched! Vater stands up to my heavy/hard playing style and I have saved soooo much money since I have switched 5 years ago.

I play Vater stick as well. I usually play my sticks until they chip enough for me to buy new ones. With Vater, you don't really have to buy sticks that often because they last longer.
Do the tips of those sticks chip easily?
Congrats, Kristina. You play awesome.!!!!
Nice drumsticks they are really good I will buy them
Why mine never breaked lol... I don't know what that stick is made of.. it's really hard... It's been 2 years

I use Vater 2b’s Wood tips, they are heavy and powerful🤟
They're good sticks. I use to use pro mark. Inspired by the drummer from Dave Matthews band.

Badass Kristina. BADASS!
Were there any specific reasons for leaving headhunter sticks?
You tried the power 3a
vic all the way!!! p.s. if you like heavier stick i think they make marching sticks suited for playing on concert drums
Grate video I like the video as well on how they make them
This makes me wonder how much easier these are to keep a grip on. I've used Yoshiki Tama (Japanese, but awesome), Vic F's (way too fat) and Zildjian's (good size, but way slick), but these giant hands slid sticks across rooms.
