I got my 590A1 back in the Spring of 1994, all these years I've never had a problem with it, a solid bargain of a firearm for sure.
I purchased my 590A1 in the summer of 2023.and also had a failure to feed issue. I bright it back to my dealer and it look a couple weeks for Mossberg to send a shipping label and another 2-3 weeks to have it repaired and shipped back to my dealer. It was also bad cartridge stop and cartridge interrupter. Thankfully, it runs great now
I added the Magpul furniture and barrel clamp to my 18.5" 590A1 (6+1 capacity). Easy to install and it works great. I love the ergonomics. Added the QD cups and a sling from Magpul as well. I'm something of a fanboy of their products. Stocks, mags, slings, etc.
Out of the box, I too had an issue. The last shell was very difficult to unload manually and would sometime fail to feed when pumping the action. I contacted Mossberg about the issue and they sent me a new mag tube spring plus shell stopper and interrupter. It arrived quick with no hassle. That said, it didn't fix the issue. I suspect the problem was the spring being too short. The 18.5" version used to have just a 5 shot capacity and when they upgraded to a 6 shot, I think they kept the same mag tube spring. I say that because upon removing the cap and plug, the spring barely stuck out an inch. There's almost no tension when there's just one shell in the tube. So I replaced the spring with one that has a little higher pressure from Wolff. The description says it's a 5+1 spring but it has noticeably more tension than the factory spring and worked great in my 6+1 tube. Problem solved, no more failure to feed and manually unloading is much easier. Aside from that, it has worked flawlessly. It's definitely my go-to home defense boomstick.
Note: Wolff also has replacement mag tube springs for the 20" (8+1 capacity) so if you ever wear yours out, Wolff is a good option IMO. I also go to them for recoil springs for my Kimber 1911.
Sorry to hear you had issues but glad Mossberg took care of you. I have the non-A1 590 18.5 inch version and it has been running perfectly reliable. Never tried the Black Aces brand and after your video, I’ll be sure to stick with Federal and Winchester as I’ve had zero issues so far. 👍🏻
Also, on my 590, I installed the Defender Technical Universal Minishell Adapter but have yet to try any minishells. Based on my research, it appears to be more reliable than the OEM adapter that comes in the 590S version or the one from OPSel , but I’ve had zero issues running 2 3/4 shells with the adapter installed.
Sorry and surprised to hear there were issues. Those guns are normally rock solid.
Wow! Can't believe it. It is without question the most reliable weapo that I own. The 590 A1 Magpul is exceptional and still the champ. Only😊 the '72 Dolphins are undefeated

Literally had the same exact problem with the black aces buck shot. All I had to do was rack it again and it would eject just fine but it never ejected on the first rack.
Been seeing and hearing about a lot of QC issues with Mossberg lately. Hopefully they get their shit together.

As a business it would cost 1000’s and 1000’s and 1000’s in postage to just print that out automatically.
imagine if it was customer error like most problems and they just wanted to send it back without being educated. Mossberg did the right thing and for the sake of a phone call it was sorted.
I've watched lots of Black Aces products that were reviewed by different commentators and just about every one of them had some kind of issues with their products. The reason why I say that is because I was window shopping for both semi auto and pump shotguns last several weeks.
It works in my benelli m4. Won't be buying more of it, though.

Nice review. I've been shotgun shopping for a few weeks now starting off looking at just Mossberg pumps, moving to a Benelli Supernova Tactical and finally stepping-up to a Beretta semi (A300 UP). Now I may be coming back around to a Mossberg. In particular this 590A1 Magpul model has piqued my attention because of the adjustable stock and forend, plus the picatinny rail. There's something about a Mossberg pump that draws me in and this one has a lot of useful added features. The issue you had with yours is probably a rare outlying problem...I hope.
Have the same exact gun no issues I absolutely love that shotgun and it’s rock solid from the box you don’t need to mess with it, All I did was add a shell holder and a different high viz Follower because I’m picky, Mine was also super smooth right out of the box and it only gets better the more I shoot it
Talon Grips makes an awesome grip application for that MagPul forend.
Agreed it is so much better but also another $40+ with shipping but worth it IMO
I had similar issues with NSI 00 Buck out of my 590a1 where spent rounds get stuck in the chamber. No issues with Hornady Critical Defense though. I just stopped using NSI (still sitting on 200+ rounds of it 🙄) Fits the theme of crap ammo, crap performance.
I haven't had any issues with mine yet. One brand of high pressure steel ammo was sticking to the chamber but after I polished the chamber with steel wool the problem with that one brand of ammo disappeared.
Woah, I just bought mine but I have yet to pick it up from the store. Mind making a video on how you did it?
@@paolo7237 You just tighten a shotgun cleaning rod to your drill chuck and put a soft cleaning tip in the end covered with steel wool and stick it in the chamber and let the wool spin there.
Great review. Love Magpul stuff too and did my 590 A1 similar to yours. Mine has never had an operating issue and I would give up my Benelli M4 over the Mossberg.
If this the first gun you had to send back, you didn't buy enough cheap azz guns 😅
I've had 2 Keltec, 2 Ruger, and 2 PSA sent back. All came back working flawlessly except for the Keltec P50 which is a total disaster 😂
I have the SPX version along with a Shockwave. They both have been very reliable so far. I cant say the same with my mag fed semis!
I just got a 200rd case of Black Aces 00 and already been sitting on a case of slugs. My fingers are crossed with this ammo now! Royal Rio and some other brands I have tried has been good so far.
I got one recently. I was a bit apprehensive agter seeing your initial post sating you had to send it back. Thankfully it's been great so far.
When I bought my 590A1, I took it completely apart, inspected and cleaned everything, gave her some Lucas Gun Oil and she runs like the Energizer Bunny. Knock on wood, not one single hiccup or malfunction of any kind in several hundred rounds of Winchester Military grade buckshot. Hate to hear that you had that problem. Bad news if that was your home defense firearm. Too bad Glock doesn't make shotguns. Hey maybe I will submit that to Glock Inc.
I have the same issue with black aces tactical ammo in my 590 I have issues even chambering it.
Had the exact same issue with my 500. Dropped shells even when not firing...
I purchased my 590a1 on December 19, 2023. That same day I took it to my local indoor range on Katy, Texas to shoot it and had Immediate problems with failures to feed. Rounds where sticking in the magazine. I to had issues with Mossbergs web site with a return ticket finally after about a week trying to get a response from there service department I was emailed a return sticker… There web site does state that it would take 6 to 8 weeks to have the shot gun looked at and returned back to you. I was told by the service department that in my situation that this 590a1 was so brand new that it would only take 2 to 3 weeks for the turn around back to me. Today is 9 February 2024. I have reached out to Mossbergs service department and have not receive any response yet on the status of my Shot gun. To say that I’m disappointed would be an understatement.
I have had a this shot gun in Nam and at my home since. Never Any problem.
Sorry to hear this. Mine had issues with trigger and safety, i sent it to them and they had it back to me in a week and a half i cant say enough good things about Mossberg for supporting us California gun owners
My Remington 870 is set up almost exactly like that.
Shells falling out properly because of the open type shell lifter,love my 870..

Crazy what is going on these days with the QA from so many gun companies. PSA I got four bad out of 5 guns. I've heard even Daniel defense had a few lemons go out.

I had a SW 686 plus not timed from the factory last month. Very disappointing.
The inside of the slide on my new Italian-made Beretta 92FS looks like it was chiseled by a caveman. Come to find out through research on various gun boards that it happens when the CNC machine bits either go dull or clatter around inside the machine. Reached out to them via email and their website....no response. I'm not happy.
Black Aces ammo and their other products are all garbage. I have a 590A1 18” and it’s runs perfect.
