I've done a few of these, with a different mold. But after running thru the planer and sanding to 400 grit, the epoxy still looks like crap after oiling.
Ive done the same on other molds as well, but the larger molds its easier to do a flood coat.
    Any suggestions?

Good video. I use Smooth-On Universal Mold Release and it works great. I have already made several of these caddies without any issue and the mold always comes out looking brand new. Just curious, but were the two pieces of wood cut using a template or did you cut them free hand? For me, I only use an orbital sander to get these finished caddies the way I want them to look, provided the wood is planed beforehand.

I free handed those pieces of wood. We do however have acrylic templates to match those wine caddy molds: craftedelements.com/collections/router-templates

Can you drop the link for the acrylic blanks you mentioned? I couldn't make out who you said they were from. Thank you!

Jon and Ahonui Artisans makes acrylic templates in similar shapes, but the are for router table forming, rather than molds. If that's what you are looking for, he is your man.

If you had no wood in mold and used only epoxy, approximately how many ounces of mixed epoxy would the mold take to fill?

We actually list all the volume sizes on the product pages on our website, craftedelements.com. Find the mold style you are interested in, then see the "volume" field.

How do you get the resin to not leak under the board with a silicon mold? I used weights to hold it down. Do I need clamps?

    • @CraftedElements

Yes you will want to use handweights (kettle bell etc) or clamps. You want to apply enough pressure from the top to ensure the resin doesn't seem under the wood.

What wood oil are you using? Please

We use walrus oil, or Howards cutting board oil

We ship worldwide. Just add them to your cart at craftedelements.com, go to checkout to get a shipping quote. We do not stock them locally in Grenada, we would need to ship out to you with UPS.
