Cliff Burton bass tone, morley power wah fuzz in action

  • my take on cliff burton 86 live solo tone
    gear used:
    -precision bass(tone and volume dimed)
-morley power wah fuzz cliff burton signature(fuzz used lightly more as a front end boost, has no much effect on the tone, only pushes tube screamer into more distortion)
-joyo vintage overdrive(ibanez ts808 clone, main source of overdrive, on its own it gives ride the lightning or master of puppets regular rhythm bass tone depending on your eq and pickups type)
-behringer multi-fx(used for light delay, more of an echo, at the end used as pitch shifter for bellz intro)
    -orange crush 35b amp
first part of the video is anesthesia pulling teeth inspired by live 86 performances, part where drums should be was inspired by cape girardeau 86 solo, call of ktulu sample, some bach, beethoven, malmsteen doodles and for whom the bell tolls intro(with a pitch shifter 1984-esque), at the very end i showcase the gear quickly...sorry for a bit of clipping here and there and for my rusty playing(i was unable to play for a month or so)..filmed with old iphone 3gs uncomfortably placed on a smooth wooden table so camera angle is not the best out there either

Hello once more, thank you People for all the beautiful words...one disclaimer..i've stopped responding to 'signal chain pls' since its been discussed not only in this comment section, but on a few other videos as well, ive been helpful as much as i could, even befriended some of the folks here and had wide length conversations via facebook concerning this sound and cliff in general...furthermore i have written a huge description of my gear used here, plus YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE IT at the end of the video...please people, dont rush, dont conform to the "instant generation" and take only a couple minutes to actually watch the video read the possible description and a quick scroll down the comments(on each video not just mine) before you jump head first into 'signal chain pls' ...i am sure i can talk in the name of many youtubers like myself(or far greater ones) who spent YEARS reasearching some tone, listening to videos, looking at pictures, talking to the people who might know better and experimenting with gear with numbers of trial and error...so if its that hard to do a quick look, or simply watching video start to finish, then dont bother trying at all...that being said i will ALWAYS respond to more specific questions about the gear and how to use it and what does what and why this and not that....but i believe, regarding my signal chain here, it is written more times than i used it so yeah, cheers!

my bass is some cheap unknown chineese precision bass clone which is surprisingly one of the most comfortable basses in the low price range that i ever touched, it had perfect setup straight outta box, i would say it is in range with some medium range squier...and has killer flame/birdseye maple fretboard...morley was around 200 bucks...solid state 35 watt orange(nice fat warm tone for an SS amp) and couple of clone pedals...its more how you use em and about perfect blend of tones than actually priced gear...cant tell you off the hook how much did it cost me but its not that much money..it serves me well tho

its a great beginning...do this bass>pwf>big muff...and use fuzz lightly just for boost(you can see where i set the intensity at the end of this video) and then dial in as much distortion from big muff as you need...i believe with big muff you will get more of his 83 tone(aka studio anesthesia) but with some delay you will get really close to what i have here only perhaps a bit more gain...btw what big muff do you use guitar one or bass one? thanks for comment

@@aleaguilart1872 thanks man! Well honestly...until i was finally happy with the tone(both lead and rhythm and so that one turns into another, instead of being separate chains) it took me 10 years or so...the first decent form of lead sound(as heared in this video) took about 3 years(mostly due to vast lack of proper information on Cliff's gear back then...so i had to figure out everything on my own, looking at photos, videos, listening and finally well, buying gear and experimenting :)
I am perfectly happy with my tone nowdays...i might only swap the wah, IF the one i've been eyeballing turns out to be what i hope to get out of it...but if not i'm back to the current one...overall there are very little things i want to improve these days...and are mostly convenience of usage and response that i'm getting from the gear, rather than actual tone shaping....this video was 'my current lead tone on a budget' so to speak :D and well i had so much drive and eagerness back then...it never really stopped...kept pushing till i was happy...and like Cliff said, you dont burn out from going too fast, you burn out from going too slow and getting bored...i love to keep things interested and move forward \m/

And btw man, i am happy someone watch the entire video...cos i always see cliff's solos...as sort of a classical music...you have to sit through the whole thing to really appreciate it...its not like some pop song with chorus verse chorus verse end..so when you hear first minute you heared it all...i love the progression and atmosphere it creates...this tone even i feel about it like a 'cello or upright bass played with a bow' rather than 'electric guitar solo'...thats the way i always approached it, at least :)

Also, since you seem a bit worried about the sound quality in some of your other videos, this is a tip I got from watching some of my friends play guitar on video. If your amp has a headphone port or line out, you can either get a 1/4 to 3.5mm or 3.5mm to 1/4 adapter pretty cheap and just plug it into the microphone jack on your computer. Or, even better you can use this thing called an iRig which does an even better job of retaining the sound quality you'd hear from your amp.
