I think it was more Via trying to compare her experience to Auggies which isn't the same. She went about trying to help him the wrong way. I understand what you're saying, but she shouldn't have tried to compare her bad days to his. She obviously ment no harm. Sometimes we all think we are helping but we just say the wrong things.

Lexy Ruse This is true. Her bad days will never be as bad as his but something i feel a lot of people forget is as the “normal” sibling, you don’t just get out of all of it scot-free. Whether you agree or not, if you have a sibling with any form of disability or special needs, your life as their sibling is forever changed.
I honestly believe that Via’s experience is a very realistic depiction of what its like to have a sibling who isn’t “normal” because while your life is never as bad as theirs, its not normal either. You walk out of restaurants because its too loud and your sibling, who has a sensory processing disorder, cant handle it. You forgive your parents for not turning up to your school panto because your sibling, who has leukaemia, has had to be rushed to hospital. You deal with it when your sibling yells at you and tells you you could never understand when all you’re trying to do is cheer them up. These are three different, possible examples of the life of someone like Via. It’s not the same experience but it should also be recognised as “not easy”.
I could recite studies at you that talk about the effects-positive and negative-of having a sibling with severe special needs on the “normal” sibling or how their personality will forever be shaped by simply being born into the same family as someone who has different needs but I won’t because this is already a long comment.
I sympathise a lot with Via and so I find myself getting unnecessarily angry when I see people criticise her or her actions because, love it or hate it, it’s a realistic experience. People aren’t perfect and Via already deals with a lot. But I also understand Auggie’s reaction. He’s right. While Via can lie about being an only child, he has no such luck. He can never escape, can never hide. He’s 10 years old and already dealing with the reality that his life will always be filled with stares and muttered comments and thats *hard* at such a young age.
Someone will always have it worse. The worst pain you’ve ever felt will never be as high as someone else’s. Just because someone has it worse, doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to hurt too.

Love Via and Auggie's relationship. I like that we get to see her perspective as well, showing that although she loves her brother deeply, she often feels sidelined as a result of his condition.
Yeah it's actually pretty refreshing. When I saw this in theatres for the first time ever, I literally had no idea it was then gonna give us her perspective. I was pleasantly surprised.
ikr, it has middle child syndrome all over it (even tho she's the oldest) and I love it. people see her as annoying which I don't get because she has reasons to why she gets annoyed or upset and it's explained through her perspective.

I know I’m supposed to have sympathy on Auggie for this one (to which I still do of course), but we also have think about Via for a moment. She was isolated & unnoticed most of the time by her parents due to Auggie’s condition, Miranda moving onto a new group of friends, & her grandmother was the only one who would truly chat & get to know her until she passed away untimely, resulting Via to live alone most of the time. When Via finally gets the chance to spend some quality with her mother, it of course gets interrupted by her needy brother.
While I agree with you on a long shot I think calling Auggie a Needy person is a bit far fetched. He is just a kid after all and he is still developing in life but you raise a very good point.

I have a younger sister who is autistic too. When I get to watch the Wonder trailer and those movie clips, it always reminds me of my sister, who has non-verbal autism symptoms which means she cannot speak.

I don't have a facial deformity like Auggie, but I have another issue. I have Autism, and I feel him! I barely have any friends because my Autism makes me struggle with communication, so whenever I actually make a friend, I am extremely grateful to have them as my friend! If I found out that my only friend(s) was/were saying bad things about me behind my back, i'd be just as upset as Auggie was in this clip! Instead of talking about Auggie behind his back, Jack Will should have been friends with Auggie INSTEAD OF Julian and his group, NOT both of them at the same time! If you need to feel embarrassed to be friends with someone when around your friends, then they aren't really your friends! REAL friends accept you no matter what! Julian was never Jack Will's friend! Auggie WAS!
Same here, diagnosed at 3. It’s really hard to tell who’s an actual friend, but you find it’s the ones who seek you out. Im empathetic toward everyone I know, but I’m learning to not waste my time on those who wouldn’t give me the time of day. Just be you and the right people gravitate toward you

It's sad via is such an appreciating sister and auggie always under appreciates her. Unpopular opinion I know
Its good to see Via's perspective and she seems pretty selfless. She doesn't complain and cares about Auggie and he wants to be treated like everyone else so that's what she does she tells it to him like it is and she comforts him, the one day she had with her mother was taken away by Auggie's needs but she still tries to find out what happens to him at school and tries to cheer him up. People, especially in the comments say she's petty or annoying, like because of her brother she's not allowed to have feelings or be upset about anything. She handles the situation a lot better than most teenagers would. She knows that Auggie has a lot more to deal with than her but at least she's trying to find out what's wrong and help. She doesn't know what its like to be Auggie in fact she has the opposite instead of everyone looking at her and judging, no one notices her and she doesn't seem to want to take any help or support from him she's just asking for a little support to be sent her way to, she's still a growing kid too and a lot of people are acting like she's supposed to know everything to say or do, she's doing the best she knows how.

Izabel Vidovic is selling her performance. I love her on the fosters as Taylor. She was a minor character but was there a lot. I’m finally happy that Izabels's dream came true. In a interview for the fosters she said “I wish I could be a main role in this show, it’s my dream to have that honor. I’m so proud of her completing her dream and get away from the minor character section.

I understand how Auggie feels right now. Via didn't really make the situation better by saying everyone has bad days because some bad days are worse than others and Auggie had to deal with a lot of criticism by kids in his school. Even people saying oh touching him is "the plague." When Auggie said "don't compare your bad days to mine", it really meant a lot and Via just accepted that was a wrong thing to put it as.

They both struggle, and yes Auggies is technically worse but the thing is you can’t compare your bad day to someone else’s, your emotions are valid and literally even if your worst problem on that day is that you ran out of milk or something and didn’t have time to go to the shop to get some more, sure it’s pretty trivial but feel what you feel, don’t let anyone put you down for it but it also don’t take it out on others. I have literally cried because the butter wasn’t soft enough and I couldn’t spread it on my bread properly and it ripped, stupid but I felt what I needed to feel in that moment and got over it

Brings me to tears because it brings back so many memories. When you grow up with a disability that kids don't understand, it's hard to even make 1 friend at school. And when that one friend leaves you or does something behind your back, it's more like a stab to the heart than a stab in the back. I have to be happy that I had siblings that weren't far away in age going to school with me. They were the only people I could eat lunch with when that one friend left and I'm pretty sure they were the ones sending the "anonymous" valentines and christmas cards that could be bought and sent to anyone at school.
