300 is a ‘gentleman’s’ amount of horsepower as we all know. Props to SAIC on this beautiful roadster.
Yup - 300 is probably about spot-on for a vehicle of that size and weight, for fun on the back roads... as I found out after (over)tuning my RX7, too much power means you can't use it most of the time, and it becomes less fun...
And it's 300 electric horsepower, mind you! My Q4 has about 300, and even in that 2500kg car, it's enough to get moving. I'm sure that with a few hundred kilos less weight, that will be plenty for public roads!
Was the name decided upon by an 80'yo Boomer? Cyberster sounds like something advertised in the 1990's.
@@CulturedThugPosterThe MG brand had been around for almost a century now so I don't think It's that weird that they decided on such a boomer sounding name for this car.
Yea my 2014 V6 naturally aspirated Mustang that I used to own but gave to my mother had a little over that much power....was plenty enough to outrun the police.
Just a quick mention for how good of a presenter and motor journalist Jack is these days... always such a pleasure to watch his reviews
why is that because he is a complete sycophant to whatever he is meant to be “reviewing”
Not as condescending as some of their other presenters.
...and never an "I mean" or "you know" to interrupt the flow of engagement. Bravo Jack 👏
Great video, fab car
@@SHOdown13 Ouch, anyway, bless your little cotton socks 🙂
If only it was called the MG-E, following the MG.B, MG.F tradition! Wonderful car.
It might be code named MGC
B, had been used. F had been used. So no way used E. It shall be MG-G🤪
@@blademanx The MGC was a late-1960s porky V8 derivative of the MGB, if I recall correctly
Completely agree. Wonderful car, but the name is far too gimmicky. It's not like I can actually afford one of these (maybe one day) but MG E would make so much more sense. They could've even called it the TF - they've used that name multiple times now.
It *is* a concept for now and oftentimes concepts have more gimmicky names. So one can hope that they give it the right name :D
Now that is what an Electric should be, love the drivers area, they have come far!!
It's great to see MG (even if Chinese and not British) have made a roadster, getting back to the roots. My first car in 1975 was an MGB roadster from 1968. It would be great to own an electric MG roadster again.
MG Cyberster design and scissor doors. It's this tension that Carl Gotham, head of SAIC's advanced design studio in Marylebone, had to contend with at every step when designing the Cyberster.
Beautiful car and a good performance car. I had my MG SUV for two years now and it's perfect.
A remarkably stunning-looking thing (but yes a proper steering wheel please)
Precisely!
Depending on the steering ratio, I might be perfectly OK with a yoke steering wheel. I'm used to it in airplanes, plus I don't want the top of a wheel blocking any of the three displays.
Yeah, same. I really don't want a yoke although this car is so tempting I might forgive it.
@@JohnCline you never ever do full turns in an aeroplane though, parking with a yoke is a nightmare aha
sure that will be an option
Growing up in Midwest America in the 70’s I worked at a gas/service station and my boss had a 40’s something MG in the back room that he was working on. Since then I’ve always loved MG
That MG is dead. Now it’s just a Chinese badge brand.
Chinese came to the party with a straight face. While everyone was dkin around like Nissan who had a head start on EV...Tesla came in a dominated. Now Porsche Merc Audi and co are all vying for EV lux segment. Porsche and Nissan started talking about next gen boxsters and max out. MG saw a chance to get in ahead of them both. Only thing that will affect things is pricing. I can imagine the 983 boxster costing upwards of 60k for the ev version
MGs were just for working on, really. lol
@Garrus Vakarian well. MG was dead cuz they could not deliver cars people wanted. If the car offers good value, it does not matter it is imported from outer space.
Wish this came to the US, this is exactly the car I want in terms of performance, looks and price point
MG needs to bring all their models to the US. Time for a reboot!
Getting through US national security 'issues' will always be a gigantic hurdle for any Chinese tech....... I'll be surprised if they do make it
Not going to happen. "National Security" concerns prevents this from happening plus 28% tariff against cars made in China.
*SHAMSTER: MG is now Chinese owned, Chinese multinational companies have part C C P ownership and C C P board members*
@@NickLiang That doesn't seem to be a problem for Volvo so why should it be for MG
I'll have one in British racing green, with a touch of aztec yellow
The original MG badge was synonymous with affordable two seat driving ….. I hope MG (SIAC) give us a real ‘affordable’ roadster 😊it’s a great looking machine …. Can’t wait to see one 👍
Cool, for me it was synonymous with being seriously unreliable.
If this starts under £50k I'll be in total shock
@@roi354it’s about 30000 euro in mainland china, but u know, foreign car, probably double the price in europe😅
It's expected to sell for a little over 200,000 RMB(nearly 30,000 💲)in China.
It looks amazing and I hope it keeps at a great MG price. The EV designs are starting to get far more futuristic and that is a beautiful thing.
Gorgeous design. Wish they had reached back to the iconic 60's MGB's for grille, headlight and tail light design. Looks good on you Jack.
This maybe the car that finally gets my wife to appreciate electric cars. All those multi door skyscrapers just don't do it for her 😊😊
At last. And this is a very, very, very good looking car.
Im only waiting for the moment that i can order this car. Following it for ages now, i just cannot wait to have one. And than all you can have, the 2 motor version.
hmmm
Something that I very much like (and that is not mentioned often when it occurs) is that they put “directional wheels” on this car, meaning the left and right wheels are mirror of each other so when you look de car from either side the wheels will always look like they point to the same direction (back in this case) 4:12
Good spot!
Unlike Kia ev6 and others. 🤔
This was always a pet peeve about my Model S. Just cheap and lazy to do it. I’d love an EV BMW Z4 but one of these might just scratch my itch!
Awesome car! Thanks Jack for a great review of this car!
Judging by it's looks and the value for money performance of their other EVs, I want one! Now please or even quicker!!
The bar blocking the passenger from using the centre console, is enough for me to want it 😅. This is a driver's car!
Scissors doors make a lot of sense on a roadster with long doors, I drive a mx5 and I don't have enough room to open it fully in a car park or in my garage without hitting another car or the wall. And getting in and out is difficult unless the door is fully open.
Having scissor doors would make my life that much easier for day to day driving.
Yes, but how high is the ceiling in your garage or parking garage?
Absolute stunner! I thought the MG4 looks flashy (and pretty fast for a hatchback) but this is in a different league.. not sure about the yoke steering wheel tho. Really looking fwd to seeing these on the road.
My mind immediately went to KITT when I saw that cockpit 😄
I can't remember the last time I was this excited for a car but MG are nailing it! The MG4 as a daily with a Cyberstar in the garage would be awesome. Also as always fantastic video Jack
This is just GORGEOUS & the colour suits the car really well. Well done MG, if this is a touch of things to come from this company - WOW!
I can't wait for them to make a GT 2+2 variant of this, and then a coupe. Could be a great starting platform!
Another review to make sure the Fully Charged Team keep getting those luxury trips with luxury flights, luxury destinations , luxury food. Well done!
Looks like another red 2 seat MG is headed for my garage.
Hey Jack, love your work 👍
As you said..... Well done MG for making cars at price points that others don't want to go to... Affordable and practical. Next year they will have the first affordable sports car. Proving to everyone that BEVs are interesting as well as beautiful to look at.
Exactly!
Chinese MG knows how to make cheap electrics
"Next year they will have the first affordable sports car."
I bet this won't be affordable !
unfortunatly not that affordable, between 50-60k I've heard.
This will be easily £60k which then makes it pointless.
It is a glorious car. Hopefully affordable, as that will really inspire many people to switch to electric.
Dude a convertible abarth 500e scorpio cost 40+k up to 50k euro. Wouldnt suprise if its 60k+
...and that IS the Problem with all Cars today. Affordable Cars are a Thing from the Past.
@@hippievogelei never know, they may make it affordable like there other cars
Great potential car. Great design team, I think. If the price is right it could be as popular as the original mg roadster. We have had two mob gt’s and a Mercedes silk. I think their mantel could pass to this. Fingers crossed everything will be delivered.
The UK price is being quoted as £50-60K. Too expensive for many
@@phuketexplorer That might kill it!
Amazing ticks so many boxes it’s the perfect mix and it has literally no competition
RWD 300hp is the sweet spot.
The EV I’ve been waiting for!
300hp will probably be 450 ft lbs....300ft lbs in the kia eniro is already a lot.
Not if it weighs 1.5- 2 tons, which it will very likely do ...
Brilliant car! First electric car I’m genuinely excited for! Just need to put in a proper steering wheel and this is an absolute winner!
I guess you like cars with stolen names, I would prefer a new Tesla Roadster or Cybertruck ANY day of the week.
@@menotyou1234 you mean from the company that stole its name from a famous inventor? You do you mate. I hope you enjoy driving your car in 2050
This looks amazing so will be cool to see the first RL tests!
The overhaul design of this sports car looks amazing and very desirable.
I love the idea of having a video racing game as something fun to do when the car is parked and sitting in the cockpit with a force feedback yoke/steering wheel and seat. Yes, gimmicky but cool !
Absolute masterpiece, can't wait to get behind wheel on one. Let's hope it has good range 🤞
if cab go at least 200 us miles in full charge ut would sale out quickly!
I'm really hoping for a 350+ mile figure at least for WLTP, I would love to go on proper road trips with this (or rather, dream about them)
@@FabriSlv 350 i doubt it. Never know though
I love this!! I wish I could buy one to be my daily, unfortunately I need to occasionally use some back seats. Do you think they would take the children in as a trade in deal? Great vid!
Im sure you will fit your infant kid in the back no problem. If they are too big to fit in that means they are old enough to be on their own. Lol, joking!
😂😆
Wow - what a car ! Your head is only 2 cms above the windshield header...and you have to love how the driver's seat wobbles all about. Imagine tossing it around out of the roads, and bouncing off everything in the cockpit.
Beautiful, I would be looking over the top of the windscreen too.
Well done MG, it looks fabulous.
Given that even average EVs out-accelerate most Hot Hatches and MX5s, this is bound to be quick enough. 0-60mph in sub 6seconds will feel great, because of that instant torque.
Accept for my mx5 ha 😎
Our kia niro has 300 ft lbs and 200hp can only imagine the base model at 306hp and 540hp. Ft lbs looking at 600 ft lbs at least for top spec.
I drive a ZS EV (one month of my first EV) and I love how it drives, so I can imagine this will be on another level to drive. Can't wait to see it in the flesh and hopefully have a test drive at Fully Charged Live North next year or the year after.
I saw one for real in the Costco Shanghai car park and frankly the videos don't do it justice - it looks amazing
Love the driver centric cockpit. This is going to be a big hit. I have friends who want an EV today but insist on a convertible. The price is a bit high though for an MG. £50k be better.
Nissan want to launch a roadster as well . Honda chickened out 😅. Porsche will release a boxster ev
@@blademanx yeah but Porsche would be 2x as much as the MG
Beautiful inside and out. MG is on the same trajectory as Kia/Hyundai, good for the competition
Beautiful design ❤
Thank you for the details 🙏
I hope they have it set so that when 'emergency flashers' are put on, the point of each left and right turn tail lights does not turn on; only the straight line. Looks wonderful
If it has a driving game, then maybe the steering is by wire rather than mechanical, which would enable them to use a non linear steering rack, which means you can go lock to lock in 180° when stationary, but 180°at high speed moves the wheels less because you're unlikely to want to go full lock at those speeds? Also tuneable options in the settings if you like.
Could easily be a Jaguar, looks fantastic.
Top top beautiful roadster, Congrats to SAIC and MG team.
When in Portugal? do it and send it to EU FAST.
Well done Jack you really showed your enthusiasm that is missing from so many car presentations. As for the car it looks good but if they put traditional doors on it along with that steeply raked windscreen a lot of head injuries will be attending A&E.
I recall watching Jeremy Clarkson review an MG in China and ripping it to pieces. It looks like they took notice and have made great strides in the ensuing years.
That is a thing of beauty. So glad MG are making a comeback. But they really need to sort out the ergonomics, like Jack is tall but like he's not a giant. You cannot build a company back up if you can't actually sell what you make to everyone.
In the MG5 i have to choose been being too far from the steering wheel or having my knees right up against the wheel. I'm not much over 6ft, it's ridiculous. My cousin is taller than me, and the crampt driving position is the only thing stopping him from getting an MG
Chinese cars probably designed for shorter people. If the Dutch still designed cars, Jack would never complain again.
He's probably taller than 99% of humans.
Yeah the dash was low.
My favourite thing about the car, aside from it being electric, is the colour. I love red, and that shade is just beautiful.
That's their normal "Dynamic Red" tri-coat paint. You can buy any of their EVs in that colour.
I saw one of these in camo driving in Birmingham alongside 2 MG4
As someone who's never been a fan of sports car particularly, I find myself drawn to this a lot more than I would have expected, to the point that my brain says "if you ever win the lottery ..."
Best new car design in recent years. Can't wait to see it in metal.
This is the EV i have been waiting for :) Now Subscribed as Jack is a very good professional presenter.
The car looks stunning and if the production model is anything like the pre production model featured here then it will sell well.
Definitely change the steering wheel and have conventional doors, but agree it looks amazing.
`Frunk`? Boot space? I'll have a 2-seat car IF it can offer boot space that matches other MG's. Need clarification first.
@@simonevans8979 agree, I would expect a boot at the front.
@@LeicesterMike also a rename - too much cyber stuff going around.
@@LeicesterMike some EV have a Motor than looks like an engine in the front. The KIA ENiro does. I found it quite funny how it resembles an engine but it was quite small
@@blademanx Vehicles doing that are usually on a shared platform. They have the motor mounted high up so everything will mate to the existing engine mounts, and other assigned points in engine bay. Ground-up EVs usually mount them lower and dramatically rearrange the cooling and heating systems.
we need more convertibles and sportscars. but also 4seater. even the ice market is really boring and needs more sportiness
Yes, a 2+2 would be better for more practicality. Hopefully there is some storage under the very long bonnet. I want to replace my z4 with something electric but this seems to have less practicality than the Zed.
You do. Everyone else needs a car that doesn’t cost the earth to own or run. Literally and figuratively
Reminiscent of the Michelotti lines on the Triumph Spitfire. Top work. Yes please!
Very good looking car, the headlights have a touch of Aston Martin design in them which is no bad thing..
A testament to the engineering capabilities of MG brand.
Some would say "a 'Teslament' to the engineering capabilities of MG brand." ;)
His head is above the windscreen. Yeah great engineering 😂
Most amazing cockpit of any street legal vehicle of all time. We love it. Congratulations to the designers.
Imagine if MG is the one that perfects the YOKE steering wheel. And by this i mean, to have that shape of a the steering wheel the steering must be so fast that you get end-to-end in ~270 degrees.
Astonishing job. Well done MG! 👏
Roof up Jack's looking at a concussion.
One day I hope someone does an EV conversion of a Countach, just to see the origami Jack would have to perform.
The looks are something to die for.🥰🥰🥰🥰
Love the TF in the background 😊
Beautiful car, loving the interior as well
It's simply drop dead gorgeous. I would be cautious on throwing away that steering yoke before it ever gets a chance to impress. If it comes with electric steering, precise low speed handling can be had with a half-turn lock to lock. Then gradually running out to being far less sensitive as the speed increases, so that it never gains any sense of twitchiness. And it could all be programmable anyway. I think they could outdo Tesla with that yoke, and that would be a feather in MG's cap. Apart from that, yeah 300 bhp would be plenty [for me]. The 500bhp version could always be there showing that MG can provide it if you want it. Oh, and BMW? This is one way how you make a car without a grille look beautiful.
That's a beautiful car from the front and sides, but unfortunately those tail lights ruin the back as far as I'm concerned. They were so close to making an all round gorgeously styled car
Can't wait to see and drive it.
Now THIS. THIIIISSSSSS.
That is a return to what i look in a MG.
Cybertruck + roadster = cyberster
it's not a truck+roadaster and by that logic the cybertruck would be called something like "cyberuck"
Finally, MG made something that lives up with their name.
Mr. Scarlett, nobody does it as well as thou! Keep up the enthusiasm. Don’t change a thing in your delivery. Bob Campbell
This is amazing. Hope they do a fixed roof version too.
Very nice, Now They just need to get the price right.
The rear looks kinda like a Volvo.
It’s an absolute stunner!
I`ve owned 14 MG`s and still have a MGA, glad to see the marque is doing well, even if it`s not still brit owned.
That long hood/bonnet would fit a nice big frunk/froot. It would really increase the useability. Too bad, a missed opportunity
I think it probably will, they don't have much else to put under there.
We didn't see what is under it
Great car! terrible name, they should have called it the MGE1 or something.
Yes, or the Mg Er
@RC18 The really should have talked to us first 😂
For me MG is a British iconic brand! If this car comes to Australia 🇦🇺 I would be definitely getting one in 2024! I’ve been waiting for electric sports car
Beautiful! (and great presentation)
The RWD version is definitely on my shopping list, though the name needs a tweak! MGC anyone?!
Sorry, there already has been an MGC. Came out in 1967 which was supposed to replace the Austin Healey 3000. But not received well and was dropped in 1969.
According to Wikipedia, there has never been an MGE
@@whaustin MGC EV?

Yeah nothing says MX5 competitor like a heavy and expensive car.
Great looking car it reminds me very much of the style of the F type 2016 model, similar looks both inside and out.
Looks amazing!
Lovely car but Cyberster is the cringiest name.
Sounds like they are trying to out do Tesla's Cybertruck, another cringy name.
A terrible name.
yeah, super dumb
Mix between cyber and roadster. They’re trying to poach Tesla fans. It’s a brilliant name
@@Tazman55x You must be the type of consumer who'd stand in line to buy a Mustangarossa.
Wow! Well done MG.
This started me thinking about an electric Porsche Boxter, but it seems rather irrelevant now. Someone needs to carry out a shootout between this and the Porsche Taycan at some point.
Entertaining Video once again from Jack. Thanks.
Awesome looking car, just hope it comes out to Australia
Good looking car. Going to be great in either red or racing green. Prices are estimated at 55k for the RWD and £65k for the AWD the only downside for me is its too heavy at approx 1900kg which affects the top speed.
Top speed is restricted to 124mph. This is the limit of EV. Weight penalties. See what Porsche does with the 983 Boxster. Which will probably be ,65k starting
Dam good looking car, and the colour is fantastic.
I think the scissor doors will be handy when parking in your home garage as the car is very wide. Or even if it can be reversed out of your garage by the remote control key. For me it would have been more practical to have a two plus two.
I do love the car. Looks amazing!
