Very much agree with the step down in atmosphere. Tribes Ascend might not have been everyone's favorite Tribes game, but it did have fantastic vibes. The maps (And the little animations in the background like ships firing at each other or orbital strikes), the UI theme, the ambiance, the music, announcer voices all gave it a ton of character that Tribes 3 seems to currently be missing. By comparison Tribes 3 has a much more generic feeling to it (Which is entirely fair considering it's in alpha and they're focused on basics still). A lot of the T3 maps feel more like arenas constructed for sports rather than a strategic location in an actual warzone that might have had some kind of real purpose. Like Tribes Ascend's Drydock could actually be a believable drydock, with the landing pad flag stands and half built ships and cranes and stuff. Tribes 3's Drydock looks like they dropped a few assets down and called it a day (Which likely was the case tbh. Again, focus is probably elsewhere right now). I hope once they nail the gameplay they go back and flesh out all of the aesthetic and worldbuildy bits that T:A did so much better. I will say it's good to hear the main menu theme again after all these years though!
That is SO cool you hopped into the mixers server for Ascend!!! I try to play there from time to time, not sure if I've played with you yet. Ascend really had a great style in my opinion that needs to be taken over to Tribes 3
Destroying Generators used to take out vehicle stations, grav lift, and shield generators. Spamming ELF generators and mines around the flag was so fun. Meaning Heavies had to come in and moarter the flag stand before the scouts could come in and steal it... Gawd I nostalgic now.
Now that I think about it, Tribes Vengeance is probably the reason that I sometimes dream that I can fly around. Most of the time I fly there seems to be a time limit, or I never go that high, also I slide around a lot. Nice seeing the Spinfusor again.
Oh my goodness I had no idea about the manual reload being faster! That is why I always feel slower on fire rate than some other players. I will have to see if this is the same on the next play test.
For me Tribes was ALL about the mods. Long gone are the days of mod support for games and with it died 80% of the creativity and fun. Also, where are the vehicles?
I thought this game was long dead. Glad to see it still existing though, was a very unique and interesting and legendary games I can appreciate.
