@@brandyoctober5923 me too , after one laser treatment, I have hyperpigmentation that often can be seen under flourescent lights and LED lights that gives me major self esteem issues. I have on my forehead, chin, cheeks . How did u get yours and are you currently treating it?
I bought something from Mary Kay that I am going to try, it's for skin coloration. It's called tone correcting serum. I haven't tried it yet, but the study they did says that everyone noticed a difference after within 12 weeks
I’ve been dealing with hyperpigmentation since I was in my 20’s. I blame the pill. I don’t know how it works in England but here in the US my dermatologist offers Hydroquinone on its own, in a couple of strengths, as well as Hydroquinone mixed with Retin A at different strengths. Obagi is waaaaay more expensive than what I can get from my Doctor. You will have to be diligent with sunscreen, and wearing a hat in the sun, or it will come back. Take it from someone who’s been fighting this battle for 30 years. Lol
Rae Peronneau Yeah in the UK you can’t just get it from the Doctor, it has to be a dermatologist and even then it seems not many places offer it at an affordable price. I will definitely continue with the Hydroquinone to help keep my Melasma at bay the best I can during the Summer months.
@@ShonaghScott Dermatica is a company in the UK where you can get Tretinoin and Hydroquinone. They are an online Dermatologist and you have to send in photos so they can look at your skin. It is £20 per month and you can control when you want to receive you tubes. As you don't use it every day to start with it takes a while to get through the first tube so I suspended my next delivery for a couple of months. You only pay when you purchase.
Hi Shonagh, no you have an account online and you just put in the date you want your next delivery. I expect in a few months I will need a tube per month but at the beginning, you have to ease into as you know. I am extremely happy with their service!
What solutions are there for dark skin types 4-5 with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and melasma? Lasers peels microneedling all are a risk for dark skin due to PIH , which clinic did you go to in London as I’m from uk Birmingham
I wouldn't advise any chemical peels / laser treatments for dark skin - it's too risky (although please note, I'm Fitzpatrick 6). A skin clinic in the UK destroyed my skin that way. Their "light" skin peel turned my minor pigmentation issue into a severe one. After that happened - I paid for a dermatologist & she advised me to stick to using skin creams (she recommended the Eucerin anti-pigment line, and it works well for my skin). I could see differences after just a few weeks of using it. The pigmentation is clearing up slowly - but it is still clearing up which is the main thing.
Ruth they say eucerin has got some type of rescorcinal Which has not been studied for long term use . Which clinic you went to they damaged your skin ?
@@dynamitedynamite2737 You're right, it has resorcinol. I thought it was okay for long term, and the Eucerin customer service said it was - as I asked them. But I'll look into it. It was Destination Skin.
Great video! Nice to see a london based video! I went to Pulse Light also last year for my melasma..was worried about the laser making it worse, so the doctor there prescribed Obagi hydroquinone and the tretinoin 005% also. Yes super expensive🙈 It did fade the dark spots, but your not suppose to use it for more than 5 months, so when I stopped it all came back! I restarted it again 2 months ago but I couldn’t pay out for Obagi again..so after a lot of research I found an online dermotologist group based in London called Dermatica. For £20 each month they send me hydroquinone and tretinoin. Been using it for two months now...worth having a look! But your results are amazing, I may have a look at laser again:)
I’ve used the same from Dermatica. I swapped from Obagi when I did a second course but I’ve given the creams up now. I’ve been back to the clinic for two rounds of laser after each summer (first as seen in the this video) and it works better for me than the cream. As mentioned in the video, you can’t cure Melasma but you can maintain it. It’ll always come back but what you don’t want is the build up. It needs tackling to remove the surface layer so each year I’ll get it lasered to maintain the surface of my skin so it won’t ever worsen. It looks so much better now than when I left it all that time ago. Now I can deal with a bit of pigmentations by the end of the summer as I know I’ll have it lasered again by the winter.
Shonagh Scott I will definately go back and look into the picosure laser! Was you concerned about the the laser making the melasma darker? As I do have quite large patches all over my face as apposed to one area, so I am worried about the laser making it worse!
Why don’t you just go to a dermatologist and get Triluma? It’s a cream that has hydroquinone, tretinoin and steroids (to prevent side effects). It’s probably 1/4 of the price you paid for the Obagi set and it works the best.
I'm considering getting laser treatment too. But I don't understand, does it come back when you're out in the sun? If so, it's a lot of money and time for it all to come back whenever it's a sunny day. Does it also mean you'll need to use Spf 50 for the rest of your life?
Hi. After watching your video, I decided to get the same treatment in Pulselightclinic. My appointment is due soon. After the treatment, how long did it take for your skin to get back to normal? Was there any peeling or darkening of skin? And after how many days did you start applying makeup? Thanks so much for your useful video. ❤
Yes, you’ll get darkening of the skin until it peels which is usually around 10 days. You’ll find that one you’ll be washing your face and the dark patches will just come away leaving much lighter skin behind. I applied makeup straight away! No need to wait ☺️
Hey did u see a dermatologist about your melasma? Or did you just jump in and get laser and creams from the clinic? I dont know whether i need to see a specialist first and have prescribed creams etc. My melasma has only just appeared in the last 2 months so was just going to go straight for the laser while its still fairly new! You look great!
That's something that the clinic will be able to tell you. However, my Melasma was pretty new so it wasn't deep as it only appeared 6 months or so beforehand. Whereas my Aunt's melasma is many many years old now, so hers will be deep as year after year the sun has made it more intense - does that make sense?
im a white guy and have melasma on the forehead, quite rare problem for white guys i think, will take some action and see dermatologist in the autumn. thanks
Yeah it’s rare to hear! I feel for you as it’s annoying for sure. I’ve just got some new dark patches of melasma appear above my cheekbones 😫 so frustrating! I’m booked back in with Pulse Light to have it lasered thankfully!
I’m so happy that you found something that works! I’m going to share your video with a couple of friends that has melasma. Also, I love your necklace, where did you get it??? 😍
Diana de Strahm Yay, thank you! Sharing is caring and all that... 😁 Oh, thanks, it’s from a store on Etsy. Just search star necklace, there’s loads on there ☺️👍🏼
Thank you shonagh my pigmentation is post inflam from peels and over the years it has gotten worse. I will look into this im from australia and you can imagine the sun made it worse even with sunscreen. I would def need more than 3 treatments i think. Excellent video shonagh very informative💖
I'm also a little confused about hydroquinone. I was told to you use it for 3 months but then stop during the summer months (which I have, giving me skin a break). I don't know if this is wise or not. But it does help lighten the melasma.
Hi Im a 38 year old british male and have developed melasma / pigmentation quite severelyon my forehead. Im booked in to have neogen laser therapy. Do you reccommend it?
Hey Ryan, I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of that laser - I’m pleased I had mine done when I did, and having been religious with wearing a hat on sunny days and wearing my high SPF I’ve managed to keep it under control. Using the right skincare will work wonders too. Look up SKINBOSS on Instagram, I’m under her for my skincare to keep my Melasma at bay. She can see you worldwide via Skype but she’s based in Essex if you’re local. If you’re not local she can still speak with you and arrange a skincare regime to tackle your melasma.
@@ShonaghScott i appreciate the quick reply. Much appreciated. Its called Neogen plasma therapy. I wear a hat each day too. Its £700 per session and i need 3 to 4 sessions. Getting me down now and just want it gone so badly, but im aware its a slow process
@@rcvc775 jeeez!!! That’s pricey, and the problem with melasma is that you need to suppress it or it’ll just come back so my advise would be to save your money on the lasering and go down the skincare route. It’ll take a little longer but trust me when I say it’s INCREDIBLE. Are you on Instagram? If so, DM me, I’ll share some photos of my twins face just from this skincare regime. Her melasma was worse than mine.
Thank you for sharing this experience. I have been looking forward to it since you mentioned you were going to do this. I sure do wish there were products other than Obaji NuDerm. I was onnthat system for a while and really hated it. For being so expensive, the formulas as so inelegant and they just sat on top of my skin like a mask. I had to stop.
USER 2013 Yeah it’s so expensive which makes it almost impractical for most people. But the laser alone with help to eradicate the pigmentation but without the Hydroquinone, the pigment will return in the sun.
It’s been great, I have new melasma around my eye socket area which I’m booked in to have lasered. You can see in my recent videos that my melasma has been good ever since I had the PicoSure.
Usually, patients with Caucasian skin will feel more pain when undergoing laser treatment compared to Asians, as the former will not absorb as much as laser and thus a stronger power is required to reduce the pigmentation.
Delighted with this video Shonagh. I'm going to get my sister to check it out as she lives in London and suffers so bad from pigmentation. Can laser treat vitiligo?
Ooh, I can’t even remember now as it was so long ago that I was researching and they all have odd names, I couldn’t even remember off the top of my head. - sorry!
All the black Patches on my face, they are gone Completely and permanently, I came Across Doctor Iyhere On UA-cam and I Ordered his herbal medication, I used it for 4weeks and it already cured me completely and permanently.
I got facial skin pigmentation during my pregnancy and I’ve treated it until it was gone but in the first summer a bit came back (even though I was wearing loads of SPF) but I wasn’t treating the skin with a suppressant as you recommend so I’m definitely going to look into this! Thanks!
Hi Luciana, even after pregnancy once you’ve had melasma it never completely goes. It’s frustrating but the best thing you can do is try the suppressant and consider the laser treatment to remove any build up of pigmentation on the surface.
Do you feel that if you get sun on your body and not your face, the melasma still gets worse?? For example, can I go out in a swimsuit and tan my body if my face is completely covered with hat and sunscreen? Ive heard that getting sun anywhere on your body, even if your face is covered, can still worsen melasma
It’s a bizarre one Emmi, I am able to go out and wear a hat and get sun on my body and my face doesn’t worsen, whereas my twin can’t. Even with a hat on her face seems to get worse 🤷🏼♀️ So I think it’s literally down to the individual - but what I will say, Callie has never used Hydroquinone like I have, so maybe that’s the difference? The Hydroquinone suppressed the melasma from coming out so I think that really helps! Look up Dermatica, they do monthly prescriptions of Tretinoin and Hydroquinone pre-mixed in a tube to take away the need to layer products and they monitor your progress with photos. After the first month they up your dosage of Tret and it’s extremely affordable compared to the Obagi. I paid £400! This is only £20 a month, the first month is free and if you get a referral code (I have one if you need it) you get £5 off the following month too so it’s a no brainer compared to shelling out on obagi. Wish I’d known about it beforehand haha!!
@@ShonaghScott thank you so much for replying!! I use hydroquinone 4% and tretinoin 0.1%, it is covered by my insurance here in the states so i pay around $80 every 4 months. I’m really not sure if getting sun on my body is making it worse or not, i feel like it might be but who knows. I just went on vacation to Arizona and it totally flared up even though i consistently wore a hat and heavy mineral sunscreen all over my face. So frustrating. I’m glad you are able to go out and get sun on your body and have your melasma remain calm!! Thanks again for responding :)
Nothing, I’ve actually stopped using the Hydroquinone altogether now. I’ve decided just to use laser at the end of the year, after the summers gone, to maintain my melasma.
If you have pigmentation and you can’t afford laser then you need to try Tretinoin and Hydroquinone - you can order it through Dermatica, you upload some photos of your face and they will write you a prescription. The first month you only pay for the postage (£2.90), the second month you can get 25% off with my referral code: www.dermatica.co.uk/referrer/MNGS Hope that helps!
I’m not sure what to do. I had IPL treatment about a year ago (my third) at my dermatologist’s office. But this time I got severely burned by the laser. They told me is was because I was on BCP. It brought out melasma on my forehead, nose and cheeks (that I never had before). They put me on prescription bleaching creams and pills. Nothing seems to be helping. It’s so depressing. Wouldn’t be so bad, but the pattern it makes on my nose makes me look like I am peeling all the time. Kids ask me what the dark lines on my face are :’( Wonder if this is different than the laser that they used for the IPL and wonder if it will help me.
You’re welcome! Hmm, it depends on your pain threshold - my twin sister said it’s not at all painful and instead feels like a cats tongue licking her head 😅 I find it a bit uncomfortable - maybe like a 6 out of 10, and 9 out of 10 around the lip area!!!! However, I’m a baby with pain 😂
It’ll always come back in the Sun and with hormone changes, but it’s about maintaining the pigment so it doesn’t build up. The more if builds up the harder it becomes to remove. So I plan to have it lasered once a year as we hit winter so it removes the surface layer ready for when it returns a bit during the summer (it was much less last Summer since I kept my face out of the Sun) so each time it returns my skin to being more or less pigment free!
I contacted pulse light , they said it can come back if my hormones are not settled or I’m exposed to sun , and need follow up treatment every year after I finish my treatment . I have a question that your melasma is permanently vanished or started to come again???
As I mentioned in my video, you need to suppress your melasma or it will always return. Last year at the end of summer I had a few more laser treatments as it had darkened from the sun, but this Summer I religiously wore a hat and it didn’t get any worse so as long as you’re not exposing it to the sun and you use a suppressant for control if hormones change then it should majorly help!!! Mines been great! You can see in my videos. I have a faint shadow of it which is where I was at after I finished my lasering.

Have you tried retinols? My understanding is they are a weaker form of Retin A(?), but available without a prescription. I’ve been researching them for melasma, hormonal breakouts, and anti-aging. I’m wondering if they are useful at all or too weak, as they can also be quite expensive. Maybe better to go for a prescription strength?
At 55 I have used pretty much every product available, prescription and over-the-counter. At one point I checked into having the fraxel laser done, but was told my skin would scar (I am light/med skin tone). Anyway, for my melasma and acne scarring/pitting, I have used a combination of Vit C, OTC Retinol from SkinMedica and strong acids (glycolic, lactic, mandelic, phytic), and have had very good results. My dermatologist is actually the one who told me to use the retinol from SkinMedica instead of prescription strength. Another UA-cam guru to watch for skincare is gothamista. Her videos are well researched and very informative about skincare.
ydroquinone is the first ingredient that bleaches and suppresses Melasma. And she mixesTretonoin with it. The Tretonoin has retinol. You need a prescription for both.
Same video appears on their website of you having treatment..not sure how credible “your experience” can be. Were you sponsored to do it? Also after checking reviews of that clinic looks like some reviews are fake as they all sound similar. And all bad reviews talk about rushed and pushy sales person as well as lack of customer service or satisfaction with results..
Hi Luiza, Pulse Light Clinic asked if they could use my review, I said of course! If you're new to my channel then you won't know but I'm very transparent about sponsorships. If I've been paid to talk about a product or experience I always tell you either at the beginning of the video or before I'm about to share the sponsored section. It will also be in the title and usually on-screen. I believe it's extremely important that viewers aren't sold all and sundry for short term pennies. My channels integrity is more important to me, I want my viewers to be able to trust what I'm sharing. Also, I believe the photos speak for themselves in regards to my experience - even IF it was sponsored (which it is NOT) it doesn't take away from the fact that the laser did in fact remove my pigmentation. Sadly, there is no cure for Melasma so it will come back but I can manage it with lasering once a year to remove the visible darkness and treat it with a suppressant. My experience with the Pulse Light Clinic has been nothing but pleasant, but it's the same as holiday reviews - one person will have completely enjoyed the hotel and customer service, others will experience the exact same service but complain. It's how it's perceived by the individual.
I have a forehead dark spots I got them from the Sun how can I remove them do I have to see a doctor to remove them or there is any way to remove them can you please tell me how😭

@@brandyoctober5923 me too , after one laser treatment, I have hyperpigmentation that often can be seen under flourescent lights and LED lights that gives me major self esteem issues. I have on my forehead, chin, cheeks . How did u get yours and are you currently treating it?
You are often in brighter light in a car. If it’s not there it won’t show up in the car mirror.
I just started getting this in the past couple of years.
Me too!!! So annoying. It’s on my forehead
Can u please tell me the cream name pls
I have to and have you found anything to help fade
I bought something from Mary Kay that I am going to try, it's for skin coloration. It's called tone correcting serum. I haven't tried it yet, but the study they did says that everyone noticed a difference after within 12 weeks
I sold MaryKay for 5 yrs it foes not work
I believe niacinamide fades it and works as a blocker too
I’ve been dealing with hyperpigmentation since I was in my 20’s.
Shonagh Scott I’m sorry. That tanks. I had a feeling it was more difficult in the UK.
I found this company yesterday!!! When you decided to suspend your order to follow, did you have to phone them to do it?
Hi Shonagh, no you have an account online and you just put in the date you want your next delivery. I expect in a few months I will need a tube per month but at the beginning, you have to ease into as you know. I am extremely happy with their service!
Thank you for sharing your experience.. 🤗
What solutions are there for dark skin types 4-5 with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and melasma? Lasers peels microneedling all are a risk for dark skin due to PIH , which clinic did you go to in London as I’m from uk Birmingham
Lactic acid peels are very effective, gentle and safe for all skin colors (and shades).
S Darling is that lactic acid 5%! The ordinary ?
@@ShonaghScott Did you try triluma? Is it helpful or lasers are better ?
I'm considering getting laser treatment too. But I don't understand, does it come back when you're out in the sun? If so, it's a lot of money and time for it all to come back whenever it's a sunny day. Does it also mean you'll need to use Spf 50 for the rest of your life?
Yep to everything
Thank you so much for your response.
Thank you for your interesting and fab video which was helpful to watch.
You’re most welcome!
They recommended me at the clinic to a dermatologist for the creams. So yeah go to the clinic and they’ll help you from there.
How do you know if it's just the surface or deep melasma?
@@ShonaghScott oh annoying. i will try different skin care serums first, fingers crossed, and good luck to you too

Also, I love your necklace, where did you get it??? 😍
Diana de Strahm Yay, thank you! Sharing is caring and all that... 😁
Oh, thanks, it’s from a store on Etsy. Just search star necklace, there’s loads on there ☺️👍🏼
I have the same. Should I go for chemical peeling or laser treatment?
Thank you shonagh my pigmentation is post inflam from peels and over the years it has gotten worse. I will look into this im from australia and you can imagine the sun made it worse even with sunscreen. I would def need more than 3 treatments i think. Excellent video shonagh very informative💖
my dermatologist said i shouldn’t use hydroquinone for more than 3 months straight because it can be dangerous
Yasmin Gourine You only incorporate into your routine 2 times a week after the initial term of using it.
I'm also a little confused about hydroquinone. I was told to you use it for 3 months but then stop during the summer months (which I have, giving me skin a break). I don't know if this is wise or not. But it does help lighten the melasma.
Hi
Im a 38 year old british male and have developed melasma / pigmentation quite severelyon my forehead. Im booked in to have neogen laser therapy.
Do you reccommend it?
Hey Ryan,
I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of that laser - I’m pleased I had mine done when I did, and having been religious with wearing a hat on sunny days and wearing my high SPF I’ve managed to keep it under control.
Kha sa app no plz
HI, does aloe vera gel works for getting rid of melasma on cheeks? please reply and thank you!
Hi, no it won’t work. Only Hydroquinone or laser.
I used yogurt, I get it on my checks, regular or greek yogurt put it on your face for 20 minutes then wash it off, it' s really worked for me.

Can you give us an update on your melasma? Would you still recommend this treatment. I have heard horror stories about using laser on melasma.
It’s been great, I have new melasma around my eye socket area which I’m booked in to have lasered. You can see in my recent videos that my melasma has been good ever since I had the PicoSure.
Which do u put first the hyaloronic serum or the tritontien cream??? Sorry am not sure about the spelling 😁🥲
Hydroquinone goes on first, followed by Tret.
Will it subside cmpletely after laser treatment or will it recur
You never want to laser for melasma. Putting heat on the face and lasers just makes it come back worse.
Mines been absolutely fine. I think it’s just down to the individual really.
Usually, patients with Caucasian skin will feel more pain when undergoing laser treatment compared to Asians, as the former will not absorb as much as laser and thus a stronger power is required to reduce the pigmentation.
These above two creames are helpful for before laser treatment or after..
Both! You can use it before lasering, and you should still use after to maintain your pigmentation.
Delighted with this video Shonagh. I'm going to get my sister to check it out as she lives in London and suffers so bad from pigmentation. Can laser treat vitiligo?
I didn't get cream name could you please tell ne name of that cream i have pigmentation n malasma on my face

Hi mam I am 20yr old only but I have melasma pls help me to get rid of this...
What did you use to treat it?
How did you treat it?
Do you feel that if you get sun on your body and not your face, the melasma still gets worse?? For example, can I go out in a swimsuit and tan my body if my face is completely covered with hat and sunscreen? Ive heard that getting sun anywhere on your body, even if your face is covered, can still worsen melasma
It’s a bizarre one Emmi, I am able to go out and wear a hat and get sun on my body and my face doesn’t worsen, whereas my twin can’t. Even with a hat on her face seems to get worse 🤷🏼♀️
So I think it’s literally down to the individual - but what I will say, Callie has never used Hydroquinone like I have, so maybe that’s the difference?

Its Sorry state of affairs

Thanxx very helpful n informative !!! I have alot of Melasma on my cheeks just wanted to know..Is Picosure painful?
You’re welcome! Hmm, it depends on your pain threshold - my twin sister said it’s not at all painful and instead feels like a cats tongue licking her head 😅
I find it a bit uncomfortable - maybe like a 6 out of 10, and 9 out of 10 around the lip area!!!! However, I’m a baby with pain 😂
Has it come back? What type of laser treatment was it?
It’ll always come back in the Sun and with hormone changes, but it’s about maintaining the pigment so it doesn’t build up. The more if builds up the harder it becomes to remove. So I plan to have it lasered once a year as we hit winter so it removes the surface layer ready for when it returns a bit during the summer (it was much less last Summer since I kept my face out of the Sun) so each time it returns my skin to being more or less pigment free!
I was burned on my upper lip and it healed dark. If I get a treatment will it come back or will it stay away since it’s not a hormonal thing?
You’re best off asking the Pulse Light Clinic on this as I’m not sure if it would react the same?

Yes, I've used retinol for years but made no difference to my melasma. A prescription strength is the only way forward.
Thank you so much! I kinda knew you were going to say that, but I was hoping.😊
Haha, sorry!!!
Thank you for taking the time to give me this info. I will most definitely check out SkinMedica and gothamista! I’m so grateful!😊
