I will talk about this more in depth when I get to VII, because the topic of the extended canon of VII is worthy of discussion by itself, but being a firm believer in the fact that a proper remake is a good thing I can only say that they are beyond stupid for not already having greenlight such a project. Especially since they were ALREADY working their way up and stopped right at the 2 games I wanted a remake for the most (V and VI). At this point there's little hope unless things change.
I'm so glad I subscribed to you. I love your unfocused, unscripted, linking, explorative thinking, you follow lines of thought, investigate auxillary ideas. It almost sounds like a back-and-forth conversation at times. There are very few yes/no answers. Admittedly there are times where it becomes a tad rambly but that's part of the beauty. A lot of youtubers go in a tight journalistic direction which has its merits don't get me wrong, its nice to have it short and snappy sometimes. But your wide-range and loose discussion is a welcome change. You also clearly understand a lot of the mechanics of story-telling, to a level where I wonder if you studied literature. Also you have a great voice. Sorry I just wanted to say how much I love this channel.
One thing I really admire about Japanese culture that has existed within it since it’s the earliest days, is that no matter what the odds are you do not give up. You don’t half ass it. You make it count. Would you rather the last thing you were remembered for to be just kinda “eh”, or would you rather put everything you had into it and make it something TO BE remember for. “Would you rather surrender or die fighting.” that is literally the Japanese fighting spirit in a nutshell.
Garland/Chaos as the last boss blew my mind when I first played it. Was not expecting him to be behind everything. Also Bahamut upgrading your classes was so badass.
I have to be honest, sir. Your reviews are simply too long for me to sit here doing nothing while I listen. So I end up writing, reading, or playing a game to do something else to occupy myself. But the thing is, even if I don't listen to everything, your voice is incredible. You could do a radio show or something, someday, and would be awesome at it. Glad you're back.
My favorite thing about Final Fantasy I is the replayability that comes from being able to choose from a party at the start and being required to COMMIT to it. This changed the way you played the game every time. That and also the class upgrades.
I actually like the original battle thing with ineffective hitting the empty slot. It made you think a little bit when making the assignments and, believe it or not, strikes me as being more realistic - the idea is the things happen kinda simultaneously, so if you head toward that guy and swing at it and it is already dead, it is too late for you to change your mind and run over there now. But the big thing to me is just that you had to think a bit more. It is another acquired skill in playing the game.
In a day and age where everyone and their mother is a critic, it's rare and pretty refreshing when someone can actually call out the good things in a given work, regardless of what it's overall quality may be. I'm saying this because now i'm pretty hyped to see your review of FFXIII. No joke.
I thought the first addition to the Final Fantasy franchise was really amazing. I remember playing it on the NES as a young child and taking down the fiends. My most hated fiend was the Tiamat though, ugh....Hated it. Totally didn't know there was a one hit kill item to get rid of the beast till I played the Origins version, which I currently own and love to death!
I remember hearing about Warmech (I think that was his name), the rare spawn super hard miniboss on the path before Tiamat, from a friend of mine.... ....and then spending hours walking up and down the path trying to get him to spawn.
For me when it comes down to Final Fantasy 13. It's not that it was bad. It wasn't a bad game. It was not what people expected and the fault there is to be placed on calling it Final Fantasy when it didn't really share much of the Final Fantasy genre such as character development and exploration and choice etc. Im sure if it wasn't called Final Fantasy it wouldn't of copped the shit that it did.
I think FF1 on the NES was the first RPG game I ever played. I remember it was a great experience for me. At the time, my english wasn't very good and I didn't understand the story. No matter, I made my own and it made complete sense at the time. I would love to get a chance to play it again and finally understand it all!
Could you just imagine that business meeting where SquareSoft announced to everyone “Hey, we’re on a sinking ship here. We don’t even have enough money to pay everyone’s wages. We’re going to have close shop in (X)Months. How many of you want to just make one last game? Let’s just go nuts but be serious about it. Unfortunately we’ll only be able to pay you 50% of what you guys make. If that. How’s done to make our farewell to game development?” ^HANDS SHOOTING UP EVERYWHERE^
You are sooooo right about there never being a bad FF game. I can name a few of them that have been slightly dissapointing to me personally, but they are still (at least) good games.
Its a shame I'm not slightly older. I missed the first wave of truely modern gaming by a couple of years, and my first real introduction to games was the Master System (and even then, when it was right at the end of its lifespan in the early 90's). Was too young to apprieciate (or heck, probably even play) games like the original Final Fantasy.
Nice review I never played the first ff. Some of my favorite Rpgs are lunar silver star, legend of dragoon, breath of fire 3, phantasy star 4, shining force 2. Wild arms, legend of legaia. There's more I just can't think now.
Hey Archengeia, Just wanted to thank you for your reviews. You're extremely unbiased and give each review a solid, complete analysis. And I know we all appreciate it. Thank you and keep up the great work. I'll keep watching and referring to help you out as much as I can. DRob0024
I can hardly wait for your FFX review. I really hope it's a generally positive review, because X was my favorite FF of them all, followed closely bu IX and VII.
I'm not going to argue with anyone in Archengeia's comment section, his videoes deserve better than people arguing witj each other over a difference of opinion. However, I will happen to agree with you on the basis that 12 is my least favourite of the series. But that doesn't mean it is a bad game, I just couldn't get in to it. Also, as it happens, 13 and 13 2 would be quite high up in my list, I love those games (apart from Hope).
Ugh i still cannot get through ff orgins normal mode because of that fucking ice cavern. I love your review and thought it was well explained and that you are very knowledgable on the ff series
first comment in 3 years, but nobody is talking about the best parties? i would have to go with a fighters and 4 black belts, or maybe just 4 black belts. 4 black mages no magic is fun too
Wait... Ur getting fired in a week and two days?? Please make a video explaining ur situation, but be vague, since you obviously can't give too much details. I'm concerned about that kind of thing, especially if its at your detriment!
This is a complete failure of an analysis. First off your analogy at 2:05 isn't even correct. If you are being fired, there is no way to be a success. In Square's case if they were successful they continued to stay in business. Secondly your idea that Square was in trouble is based on mythology. It wasn't really the company that was in trouble, it was the designer that was. The reality is that they were deeply connected to other developers at the time. At worse they would have downsized, but they likely would have just continued helping dev with other companies.

Wow, thank you. I know I don't always hit it out of the park, but it's nice to know that now and again my ruminations are enjoyed. =)

Great, the FF marathon started! I will not miss a single minute of these videos! Really good to have you back!

I liked that you would attack empty space, it made the game that much harder and that is why i always used the org. combat

I love coming back to your Final Fantasy Ruminations and hearing you thoughts on them. I’ve watched these a few times now lol.
This is fantastic. I'm pumped to listen to all of these. And so well researched!

YEY A NEW REVIEW!! I love you man. I seriously love you.
Welcome Back Archengeia!! Thanks for making these reviews!!!
You are sooooo right about there never being a bad FF game. I can name a few of them that have been slightly dissapointing to me personally, but they are still (at least) good games.
This is great! BTW where can we listen to your music?

"That'd be VI and IX for those wondering". I felt the exact same thing. Welll then, how about that.
I'm one of those that really enjoyed XIII, so I'm anxious to see it as well. :)

Honestly Final Fantasy for me its one of the bests RPGs, y played it like when i was 10 and i love the RPGs

Hey sir!! What are your views about final fantasy 7 remake?
I can hardly wait for your FFX review. I really hope it's a generally positive review, because X was my favorite FF of them all, followed closely bu IX and VII.
Archengeia - the big daddy of game reviews!!
Nice Review , thanks for the video
yay, Arch is back!
insta like. I missed you.
Awsome as always
Nubuo Ematsu is a genius :)
There is at least one -bad- FF game. FFX-2. It shat all over the beautiful tragedy that was FFX.
Yeah, what he said. Working 12 hrs at a hospital, i bring my toothbrush and Listerine too!
I still wonder why the PSP version of FF1 hasnt been released on PSN. they don't want my money? O_o
Dark Souls does the holes thing very well.

#8bittheater
Yay.
Archengeia doing a ff9 review would be cool, ff9 is my favorite ff. The rest (7 and after) just dont do it for me.
Your toothbrush? What the? xD
final fantasy 13 and 13 2
How original of you.
Wait... Ur getting fired in a week and two days?? Please make a video explaining ur situation, but be vague, since you obviously can't give too much details. I'm concerned about that kind of thing, especially if its at your detriment!
FF13 and its sequels are a disgusting, fan-service-y insult to gamers.

The first 3 FF's aren't worth playing. Start with 4.
Very good review^^. Best game series ever
This is fantastic. I'm pumped to listen to all of these. And so well researched!
