Shot an 89 yesterday using many of these principles. Hardest part was the lad I was playing with telling me what I am doing is all wrong, while I was shooting lower than him haha Cheers!
Guys, I’ve been watching Matty Boom Boom for a few years and went from breaking 100 to breaking 90 (having to start over a few times because I didn’t listen) and now am working on breaking 80. Consistently in the 80’s now and I honestly believe it’s because of all of the principles Matt has instilled in the way I think about a hole, the lie considerations, knowing my lengths/tajectories/and roll out or spin. Short game is key. Staying away from trouble is key. Knowing how to SMARTLY get out of trouble. Not overcomplicating things. Staying positive is easy now.
Similar story, I broke 100 and then pretty quickly broke 90 with a PB of 87. However now I’m back to barely breaking 100! Any tips? I know the progress isn’t linear but also I’m probably not playing smart either
@@robertscriven2098 you have probably gone back to old habits. Track 3 putts Missed greens inside 80 yards Penalties and where they come from Drives Out of position - meaning you can’t hit a normal shot - you have to punch or chip out sideways or take a drop. ‘In position’ means you can hit a shot after your drive without changing your normal ball flight.
I am really glad I found your channel. I used to think I always needed to hit driver to score well. This year I stopped hitting driver every hole, made better decisions on my approach shots and all of sudden I started breaking 80 regularly this year from the tips. 6 months later I continue to apply what you teach and now my average is in the low 70s and I finally broken 70 a few weeks ago( i was wearing a whaddaplaya polo so that may have helped too) and now my handicap is down to a 0.9. I always recommend your channel to people looking to improve and they always end up telling me your tips are helping their game.
pretty amazing! im still thinking you have to hit driver allmost 300 y to break 80! but im glad im wrong. My Hywood 3+ Cleveland is pretty reliable so i guess im going to strart playing with that!! Actually this sounds so good because im ok in short game
Well played Matty, especially in the rain. Dedication 👍. I’m off 13.4 and play a 6,600 yard course with a drive that varies between 220 and 250. It certainly is about course management and knowing when to accept a bogey. Your videos certainly help.
I started fooling with golf when I was 19 yrs old. That was in 1978. I just stated playing golf last year when I was 65. I never understood how to play a course on my terms until I found this channel. I have managed to shoot a 79, a 77 and another 79 in the last month. All credit to the Sidekick. He restructured the way I approach the game. I play my way now, everyone and their opinions can go straight to hell. I like the way I play and Im scoring better than ever... Thanks Matty Boom Boom.
Matt, your strategy works. Senior golfer here, I drive 190 max. Just shot an 82 on a 5,400 yard course. Best score since I resumed the game in retirement. Two birdies, one a chip in and one 25- foot putt. But the main victory was only one double bogey, a lot of decent chips and several 4- to 8-footers dropped. Not much of an accomplishment for some, but a real victory for me.
I am 69, good job on your improvement. I can hit one 180 to 190 occasionally, but 170 is normal. Matty’s principles have helped me in trying to avoid the double or higher. Making it thru many rounds not having any lost balls.
Reverend Matty! Just played my first practice round after 3 months of rib injury. It was horrific at +150 yards. But guess what? No death spiral. And since I used these past 3 months to practice putt and chips, I played on and around the green like total bizauss. The ppl I got paired with couldn’t believe how I scrambled. I’ll dial in the irons on the range, as I had a plan for each shot and got feedback all morning. This is how you play bad, but still have a hell of a time. Keep preachin, boom boom 💥 💥 .
This video was really good for me. I am an 11 index and try to play tees no longer than 6200, but my average driver distance is around the 235 yds range. So I feel intimidated when I am asked to play 6500 with my Sunday group sometimes. But after seeing how well you managed the back tees with just 200 yds max, I see I should not be negative about playing longer tees, but just manage my expectations and expect some holes will be good bogie holes. Thanks for posting. Your input is quite good for those of us who are trying to get better.
235 is quite sufficient for 6,500 I bet that once you shed the intimidation factor (created entirely in our minds), you will shoot the same scores or better than the 6200 tees
I showed someone toe down putting today. He was getting frustrated duffing them so he tried it. All 3 of his toe down chips were within 3 feet or closer. Its really fool proof as long as you dont have to get over anything or up an elevated green. Thank you so much for that. I've gone from a 20 handicap to a 10 in the last year in part thanks to you. You're the man!
Got my confidential putter in the mail last week and put it in the bag for the weekend. 13 putts when I played 9 on Friday, and 31 putts yesterday morning in 18. The kochenbolz were working magic
I shot my first 36 today and am now officially a single-digit dawg! Thanks so much dude, your strategy tips are made for real humans with real emotions and flawed swings and I love it. I put my ego aside and only used driver 3 times because it was the smart move, and I’ve been spending precisely 69% of my practice time chipping and putting 😎
thanks playa yes and well done bausy baus - emotions and real life work situations as opposed to driving range pros who have the entire day to hit balls and sell mars bars agreed
Thank you so much for this amazing advice. As a junior golfer who is small for my age, this helps a lot. I just played a world championship at Pinehurst no. 6 but I played not as well as I had hoped. My first and second round were both tragic however I played better on the third day. I shot 81, 79, 75. The yardage was really far for me but I learned a lot from this video and will remember this the next time I play a long course. Keep up the amazing content and golf game! Way of the Playa!
Keep going Long yardage intimidation is all created by ourselves The hardest part and the part we must do, is play our game on the longer yardage and we will be surprised how good we play...as long as we dont try get aggressive like a fake PGA Tour pro
I’ve been working hard on nailing my half and 3/4 swings, and it paid off today. I had 81 yds into a par 5 and hit a nice PW to 4” for a tap-in birdie.
Love this Matt, 6000 yds is great for me at my average 220 yard T ball, once you lower your expectations and realise bogey is good the better you can play, swing is easy more relaxed and enjoyable 🏌️♂️👍🏻 boom from the sunny UK when are you visiting again??
this is my current game. i struggle with my driver/3wood but play to a 12-14 handicap. rest of my game is super solid. putting comes and goes with the rest of us but just need to work on the long clubs. can really push my handicap under 10. love the smart game and using my great shots to my advantage. will keep working on this , thanks the the round brother, stay dry haha
One tip I took from another of Matt's videos is to take a lesson. Something to think about. I was struggling with my hybrids - and I need those because I don't have a fast swing speed. I took a lesson and learned I was doing something funky with my grip on my long clubs. The instructor fixed my hands and the yards came back. ⛳🏌️
Was recently temp layed off of my job of 10 years. Lots of time to golf but not as much money to play haha. Got my job back and start Wednesday so hoping with more work comes more golf. Gonna have to get out to the range and find my self a comfortable swing off the tee for 250+ shots. in my sleep i hit my hybrid 210-220 straight. 3 wood is 3/10 times to be a an okay distance lots of dispersion... Driver im lucky to hit the ball 200 yards 1/10 times lol. My swing speed is not the issue at all for me aj , Just cannot hit driver. Keep you updated 🤞
Been binge watching your videos for a couple of weeks. Took my learnings to the course Monday and shot an 87 finally beating my previous best of 90 shot about 8 months ago 😃
This is fantastic. As a senior that on a good day my driver rolls out to 200 yards, play the forward tees. They’re 5400. I don’t have a 5I in my bag but I’m playing my 4H @ 145 yards. I still have 4 holes where I have to execute a perfect drive to have a 25% chance of reaching the green. I’m lucky the course has a mix of “short” and “holes”. I’ve played courses about the same total length and every par 4 is about the same distance so I rarely have an iron approach shot. So sometimes instead of total distance I look at how many times do I have an iron in my hand with an average tee shot.
You made me laugh today! Thanks. The subtitles when the music played, I don't know, just had me laughing. As for the lesson? Outstanding advice. YES, you can play golf with a 200yd drive AND score well. No, not going to be a pro score, but you can definitely enjoy it, beat a bunch of the fellows in your golf group, and hopefully, be the recipient of free beer at the end of the round.
I had to do this Friday...playing in a 10 person shootout from the furthest back tee...hung in there for 8 holes with this mentality...just stay in play, avoid water, pitch and putt, accept bogeys...made it to the final 3 against much better lower handicap players. I miss the tuba
Can’t wait to see your tennis journey. I can already tell you based on your golf mentality you will be very good at it. I have over 30 years in tennis and mentality and reps the best way be confidential. 🎉
Not too bad after 6 lessons and never ever playing before. Got the forehand fire, changed my backhand from single handed to double to protect my right wrist. Volleys good. Drop shots great. Serving is in play 40% with no speed and returns on fast balls i can’t get the no backswing idea so im late on the ball. Reading the spin is opposite of cricket. When it looks like the ball is gonna sit up, it skids. When it looks like it wants to skid, it sits up. Loving it.
When I'm feeling down, this channel makes me laugh, thank you. PS.: I am totally stealing that "It's a few degrees cooler today in Celsius, not sure what that is in Freedom Units..."
I think I’m one of the few people who enjoys playing shorter tees so I can feel like im Rory out there. Average 280-290 off the tee and still prefer to play the 6200 yard tees at my home course. Sometimes go back to the 6600 yard tees but I never play the 7000 tees even though I could with my distance. My goal is to try and consistently shoot par from the 6200 tees before I move back
Cheers playa - your tips are helping me not just play better, but further enjoy my time on the course, along with the craic with my mates! Good luck with your goals gangbangers!
I'm a disciple of your channel and have gone from struggling to break 100 to hitting low 90s using your strategy. Next is to break 90 and its coming I feel it.
love the vids playa- i come back every week-Can you play driver and putter righty but approach shots lefty- I think that will be an accurate depiction of how hard it is to break 90.
The more I watch the channel the less I play with my ego. My full commitment to the system started when I put away my 3 wood, added another wedge, and started playing shorter tees. Even though I have the distance, I won't be playing tees longer than 6000 yards regularly until my handicap is in the single digits.
Damn caddies! That music is the same as the ON HOLD music we used when I worked in Big Pharma."Too Firm" is not a phrase my wife uses when describing me. "No Tip", reminded me of an old joke. What did the lady of the night say to the client with leprosy? Are you going to leave a tip? "Rim shot". I'm here all week! 😂
Hi Baus, over here we have 3 tees. Mens competition, mens tee of the day and Ladies. So a guy of 75 hitting it 170 yards has to play the same tees as yourself. No moving up a set over here. I find that so wrong compared to Thailand and 5 tees to choose from.
@@GolfSidekick I see guys in their early 80's still playing golf in Thailand. Why? Because they can go forward to some tees where they can still make a par. Over here if the cold doesn't get them first they quit golf. I hate my future!
It’s more fun to play shorter tees because it’s more fun to shoot better scores. I can hit my driver 260, but played 5800 yards today and shot 82. It’s more fun!
First round of golf I ever played, I scored 101. Never hit a hundred again. In three months, I was down to a "12", and stayed there plus or minus a few strokes, for the next 40 years. Now? I play from the RED tees on my local course, and the longest par 4 for me is 280 yards. It's insane..as I am trying to drive the green on every par 4. I am seven strokes from shooting my age.
Mr sidekick love your channel ...I have a question low 89s to high 70s player here and I can figure which ball to use ..I have a low spinning driver and have balls speeds with driver roughly 160 which ball you recommend to keep me long and on fairway 😊...I know my swing will play a difference but what you recommend firm or soft ball?
Gotta see if you’re a high spin hitter or low spin. Do you need urethane to stop the ball on the greens quickly? I just tell people to play kirkland signature if they want a urethane ball. And srixon soft feel otherwise. Love both balls
Injured my wrist in the gym in December 2023 missing a overhead press rerack. then starting learning how to play tennis and chose the single handed back hand. Mistake. Ruptured the injury. Now learning double hand back hand. Much better on the wrist
When there ist scheisse on the left side why do I stop turning my body through the ball …this ist what keeps me off from hitting below 90… staying short or aiming to the right doesn’t help really as I then pull it even more …any advice for gaining confidentiality?? 😅
I am currently playing off 12.4 hcp and feeling like i am maybe playing a bit too conservative, not necessarily on the wrong tees but i got some shots up my sleeve still don't wanna take on the tee box and so i am playing my 6i super often from the box which is my favorite iron off the tee. The thing is i have long second shots (not an issue on par 5's i would say since i pretty much always lay up) which are not in my "precision range" but on par 4's i end up battling for up and downs most of the time. I know bogey is a good score on the majority of the holes but at what point would you technically advise to get more agressive since all the courses i play are really super narrowish mountain courses? It's quite risky to pull out my utility 3i or my hybrid since i really gotta have a low dispersion and i know that from time to time it can just not go where i want or there is often danger in this length range that would require a bit more carry distance. Not even talking about driver here which is almost suicidal on some holes. I work a lot on my short game lately, improved my putting like crazy i mean i rarely 3 putt and i feel like getting chips or pitch shots for up and downs are tricky. Should I work on my long clubs to lower my dispersion and be confident enough to pull them out wisely and have more comfy 2nd shots Working back from the green or to work even more on my short game and hope for more up and downs? Would love to see your take on of the courses I mention here in Switzerland/French Border someday!
I think you know the answer. It’s time to work on the long game almost exclusively now. Get yourself a bag of shitty golf balls as cheap as possible. 100 of them. Go play the longer club of the tee every single par five and par four hole in your social rounds. Don’t worry about score. Just get that ball in play and find a shot. Lose balls every hole it doesn’t matter for now. You’ll quickly adapt and find how to keep our in play. At some point the risk of the longer shots will be outweighed by the benefits. Then practice your strike And hit many many balls with your chosen tee club both on the driving range and practice rounds, pay attention to where the ball finishes in relation to the target you intended. How far left our right from that target? Remember it for next shot or next round and adjust your aim. Always hit each shot with this be tee club with a purpose both on the range and the course. No throwaway shots. Conscious. Full preshot routine even on the range. Post attention to shape and where it finishes relating to the target. What is the course name?
@@GolfSidekick hey baus thank you so much for your answer. Such great pointers, and I kinda had the same thought about working on my « longest » game this kinda confirms it. Still was a bit unsure if going for more distance was the right choice at my level but after re-thinking about it I feel like getting shorter 2d shots (the ones I my preferred shot range ) could definitely help me. I’ll Work on it from now on and whole winter 🫡. I play many courses but the usual one is Golf Club d’Esery (Saconnay) , Evian sometimes too .
How do you know you’re playing the wrong tees? You get to the hole and the forced carry is longer than you can hit your driver. I might carry the water on hole 2 1 out of 100 times.
Matty Boom Boom, just one friendly piece of advice from a slightly older man. I quit tennis which I had played my whole life on my 40th birthday. I did this because my joints and my tendons just couldn't handle it anymore. I took up golf on that same day and I haven't looked back. Seems like you're doing the exact opposite except for quitting golf. I would save you that pain. Tennis is, sadly, very hard on older bodies. Not saying don't go for it, but be careful. If your elbows or knees start hurting, back off baus man. Your golf game is too pure to let something like tennis ruin it. Best of luck either way.
A simple trick in choosing which tee to play atba new course is to look at the par 3s yardage on the score card. Pick the tee that fits your game. Works for me
@@bradleyrounds9148 we play a course that’s about 5400 from the forward tees. They have this par 3 that’s 180 yards narrow green with insane slope. I decided to play it as a par 4.
@duffer0309 Same here, my partners would ask if I was going to "call my lay-up" I'd say yup and hit short--chip up to 1 or 2 putt and walk off with no more than a bogey instead of 5-6?...next
12 degree 7 iron sounds like something these mini tour guys are using these days so they can say they hit a 260 yard 7-iron and pad their fragile egos.

Ahhhh… nothing like that uplifting corporate pop to get your morning off to a great start. ❤
Just a legend, say it like it is, no complications. Ive total confidentiality in you👍
12:58 freedom units killed me 😂😂🦅
I think I’m one of the few people who enjoys playing shorter tees so I can feel like im Rory out there. Average 280-290 off the tee and still prefer to play the 6200 yard tees at my home course. Sometimes go back to the 6600 yard tees but I never play the 7000 tees even though I could with my distance. My goal is to try and consistently shoot par from the 6200 tees before I move back
I’m with you
Cheers playa - your tips are helping me not just play better, but further enjoy my time on the course, along with the craic with my mates! Good luck with your goals gangbangers!
As you say in irish Excellenté profissoré
I'm a disciple of your channel and have gone from struggling to break 100 to hitting low 90s using your strategy. Next is to break 90 and its coming I feel it.
love the vids playa- i come back every week-Can you play driver and putter righty but approach shots lefty- I think that will be an accurate depiction of how hard it is to break 90.
your contact is too good and consistent for these kind of videos to feel relevant to me.
That’s because the lens you’re looking through is the wrong lens.
The more I watch the channel the less I play with my ego. My full commitment to the system started when I put away my 3 wood, added another wedge, and started playing shorter tees. Even though I have the distance, I won't be playing tees longer than 6000 yards regularly until my handicap is in the single digits.
Many ways to get it done and i endorse this approach 1000% excellent
Damn caddies! That music is the same as the ON HOLD music we used when I worked in Big Pharma."Too Firm" is not a phrase my wife uses when describing me. "No Tip", reminded me of an old joke. What did the lady of the night say to the client with leprosy? Are you going to leave a tip? "Rim shot". I'm here all week! 😂
Shot a +4 in 9 holes yesterday. 5 bogeys and a birdie by playing smart and no hero shots. I wish i had the time for all 18 holes.
Excellent. Top 15% waddaman
Hi Baus, over here we have 3 tees. Mens competition, mens tee of the day and Ladies. So a guy of 75 hitting it 170 yards has to play the same tees as yourself. No moving up a set over here. I find that so wrong compared to Thailand and 5 tees to choose from.
Correct. Same in South Africa at older courses. Lame
@@GolfSidekick I see guys in their early 80's still playing golf in Thailand. Why? Because they can go forward to some tees where they can still make a par. Over here if the cold doesn't get them first they quit golf. I hate my future!
This guy needs WAY more subs. If you’re shooting anywhere from an 80+ you could use some tips from this guy!
Hello Matt , you are very productive these days. And as always your remarks are pure money. 😊😊😊
MONEYPENNY!
It’s more fun to play shorter tees because it’s more fun to shoot better scores. I can hit my driver 260, but played 5800 yards today and shot 82. It’s more fun!
@golfsidekick could I get the actual definition of "nippellecker"?
The corporate pop really uplifted me
5:45 miss seeing you play with someone who has a similar handicap to me.
Me too but too much of a mission most times. Now they have to pay me and then no video. Just attention to detail for their game
Hit 77. Finally fought off my demons and put a round together. Thanks matty boom boom
How far do you have to grip down to change yardage from your average with, for example, a PW?
Matt what is the wrap on your right wrist for?
Injured my wrist in the gym in December 2023 missing a overhead press rerack. then starting learning how to play tennis and chose the single handed back hand. Mistake. Ruptured the injury. Now learning double hand back hand. Much better on the wrist
If I don’t have a 5 iron do I need to just play crazy golf?
Use your greenside bladed wedge distance x 45
@@GolfSidekick I tend to use my greenside bunker shot that goes into the parking lot x 60
That is the old way. Outdated now. Modernity postmodernism is telling us greenside bunker into parking lot should be multiplied by 73 not 60
Good ideas here, but I’ll stick to my chipper x203.
13:13 I have heard that European golf courses may kick you out if you make a divot during practice swing at the tee box
they sure know how to suck the fun out of everything over there with the obsession with regulation
Came for the golf tips, stayed for the audio descriptions.
Is that carry or total for the calculation?
We need to ask better questions
technically from the pro tees, wouldn't your handicap technically be a little lower due to the effect of slope/rating in the whole math of it all?
Yeah that’s why i say 9 at best. And probably 14-18
I have to ask bru, where's that golf course and who's that 974?:-) love the ace contents
Rancho charnvee. Unsure what you mean by 974 im not hip on the lingo these days
How do you know you’re playing the wrong tees? You get to the hole and the forced carry is longer than you can hit your driver. I might carry the water on hole 2 1 out of 100 times.
Exactly
Baus man has new merch, MONEY!!!!
I am confidential that you don’t know what that word means 😂
Love the content keep it up
To verify - is a Nippellecker just a really good chip that gives a 3 foot tap in? Or is it a an attempt at making a chip in?
It’s a shot that opens up the entrance to the hole
@@GolfSidekick ah, now the name makes much more sense haha
Im waiting your shot tracer
Budgie smugglers represent!
Today I realized a 5iron teed up can go significantly further than a fairway shot.
where are all the chunk/top, shank shot that all the weekend hackers shoot?
NPC has arrived
A simple trick in choosing which tee to play atba new course is to look at the par 3s yardage on the score card. Pick the tee that
fits your game. Works for me
Precisely
@@bradleyrounds9148 we play a course that’s about 5400 from the forward tees. They have this par 3 that’s 180 yards narrow green with insane slope. I decided to play it as a par 4.
@duffer0309
Same here, my partners would ask if I was going to "call my lay-up" I'd say yup and hit short--chip up to 1 or 2 putt and walk off with no more than a bogey instead of 5-6?...next
82 for the first time yesterday, lowest score yet. I can go lower, i have my confidentiality
why is it always raining on you?
Because i lied when i was seventeen
@@GolfSidekick It's just trying to ruin your sunny personality! lol great vids
I have never been described as sunny besides by my dad before a lecture
Sunny days
Oh where have you gone?
Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?
What gps app u use?
I no use
i Equaled my best score score ever today of 89. Playing stress free, away from danger golf. Love it!
Beast mode. No danger. No 3 stabs. No double chips. Easy game
Hey Matty! are you looking for a video editor for high-quality edits? let me know, if you’re interested.
12 degree 7 iron sounds like something these mini tour guys are using these days so they can say they hit a 260 yard 7-iron and pad their fragile egos.
Playa!
No birdy no tip
Love most of your content. But on the 9th tee you were clearly in front of the tee box. Aint right Buckwheat. Fess up for meaningless kudos. sensei
Hook line and sinker
someties i feel this dude is green screen lol
new caddy no good
I wonder how low he could go if he took risks at the right time instead of laying up on every hole. Could probably compete and make a nice living.
No sir i could not compete. I would need to dedicate 4-5 hours a day of practice and focus. I just like to play and learn and spread the gospel
or just go to golftec and lower your score by 7 shots just like Shane.
It's definitely more like 69 playa
Woahhh
This makes zero sense to me. If your good enough to hit your irons this well then your good enough to hit all clubs this well.
Sit this one out chief
Kubwa
200 yards is 200 yards no matter which tees you hit from. ????? The title is stupid.

For me, you're like the Tolkien of golf ... just sayin'
thanks sir i dont know what that is
These videos make me want to sell all my stuff and move to Thailand and play golf everyday
Wouldn’t that be the life.
better have a lot of stuff or expensive stuff playa
