    I shoot frequently in Coastal Old Growth Forests in British Columbia. Even in the brightest of summer days, under the large tall tree canopy in can be amazingly dark with wonderful dapples of light. I started shooting in camera HDR with my Canon 5D mk4 and it produces amazing photos, not cartoonish, with a plus and minus 3 stop settings. The image comes out looking like someone had turned on a light bulb in the dark areas.

    Looks great in Lightroom on my MacBook Pro but in the Photos application it still is SDR.

      Yeah support is really mixed right now. Even Lightroom only supports it in the Develop module; you can't see HDR in the grid.

    I noticed your vertical refresh rate is 60 Hz. Does your monitor support more, even 75? Some people's eyes/optical nerve/visual brain cortex are sencitive enough to notice the difference between 60Hz and anything above. That's the case with me, and 60Hz gives me headache. I've even experimented with colleagues when they complained of headache to adjust their screens to 75Hz and 1 week later ask them how is their headache. In all cases, they said headache was gone. So my advice to you both is if your monitors support 75Hz or above, use this setting. I know some monitors have anti-flicker modes on 60Hz butthat's still not good enough for me.

    Great but as far as I know, you will need to adjust images if you print them. If not, please do a full video

    How do you export these files though? Exporting as JPG gives you an 8bit SDR image. I found PNG 16bit to be working on social media, and avif files to be working on the web, but many devices will show them "incorrectly".

    I've actually been wanting to try true HDR photos. What format do you export them in? Is there some special metadata that needs to be included like in an HDR video? WE NEED ANSWERS lol

      Yeah there's a lot to it. I'll do an entire video.

    Yes , I just started doing HDR in Lightroom since November. I was kinda wondering why I hadn’t heard much about the feature yet

      For the reason that only a fraction of the applications support it and this is further reduced by the limited amount of devices.

    is it going to show on the print? Thanks!

    Smartphones do support HDR but it's for apps like Netflix. Most social media I believe don't use it like Instagram and such.

    Question,,,why is your monitor set to default 1920x1080 with a 5k monitor?

    • @TonyAndChelsea
      @TonyAndChelsea  7 місяців тому

      Macs do this weird... the resolution is always the native 6k (not 5k with the XDR) but the virtual resolution you see just controls the size of text and UI elements.

    I can not wait until 8 bit srgb is no longer the standard output. It is past time to level up quality of deliverables of digital photographs for modern hardware.

    I tried it but when I export, it doesn’t come out right. Really weird

    You people need to upload in actual HDR10 to really show off the feature.

    What happens when I process for HDR, but my clients don't have an HDR screen?

    • @TonyAndChelsea

      It just looks like a regular photo. In Lightroom you can preview the effect.

    I edit with Topaz studio. HDR is okay with it. I still have to play with it so it's not over saturated.

    • @TonyAndChelsea
      @TonyAndChelsea  7 місяців тому +1

      That's a different type of HDR.

      @@TonyAndChelsea That's part of the confusion. When you search "HDR photography" or "HDR photos", all you get is old videos showing how to do that "HDR Effect" which is nothing more than exposure blending. You guys should do a tutorial on how to produce proper HDR photos that actually take advatage of modern HDR displays the way HDR videos do. Samsung's new S24 series actually has the ability to shoot true HDR photos so it's about to become mainstream and you guys could take the lead on showing us how to do it right.

      @theendurance 7 місяців тому

      no, you can also use a Mini LED monitor as well. Just any monitor that can get really dark and really bright.
