Excellent and hats off to the luthier who built that guitar too, it has a beautiful tone, sounds like guitar, upright bass and a piano all in one guitar.. 👌
Every time I see John I think of a interview that was done with his dad and John. When Bucky was asked if he learned anything from John he replied yes what Tie to wear. Great musicians father and two sons.
Ray Kennedy is one of the best jazz pianists of his time, yet can no longer play since being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. A fundraiser has been created to pay Ray's medical bills which are not covered by health insurance. Here's the link to donate to this gifted musician who has given so much beautiful music to the world: www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/support-ray-kennedy-and-his-family/93579
Maybe these solos are not saying what you suggest. Maybe those solos say just: "let's have fun and try to swing as hard as possible, and with the technique and the melodic creativity that we have..?"
Re: Vince Lewis' comment; I couldn't agree more. I had the privelege of meeting John Pizzarelli and he couldn't be any friendlier or more down-to-earth.He's an all around cool guy
MrAxSAP The pianist is Ray Kennedy--one of my heroes. Tragically, he can't play anymore, as he has multiple sclerosis. I just found this out a couple of days ago. It breaks my heart, as Ray's such a great guy and awesome player.
This song is available on John Pizzarelli's "Live at Birdland" 2-CD set - a great CD. BTW that is John's brother Martin on upright bass, and incredible pianist Ray Kennedy, who also has many recordings on CD and iTunes.
That Bosendorfer piano has many lower notes than a regular piano. He's having a blast with that fact. Bucky's 7 string has some fat low end too. Awesome job by all of them.
Sure, John Pizzarelli's a great guitarist, and the pianist is awesome too. But are their solos great? Do those solos say: "let's listen to a great melodic or chordal interpretation of this classic tune, that will make the tune itself ring in your ears and cement it in your soul for years!" Or do they say: "Check out my technique!"
Perhaps the most ridiculously over the top & over played "solo" you will ever hear. Pizzarelli needs to work on his massive ego as much as he works his chops. I don't have the words for the piano player.
Anyone who has actually met John and his dad Bucky, as I have, find them to be the most no ego and gracious musicians on the planet. True gentlemen who are a joy to be around.
I really like John P's playing and jazz singing but I must confess I lost the melody line during his long finger style solo. Usually I'm always able to hear it in my head as improvising goes on but not on this number. Great chops but I don't know what he was playing.
Study then, it was rythmically a beast of a solo, maybe the melody wasn't there, but its really important to try follow it by the rythm, not just the notes, and you will enjoy it equally.

Seven strings. That extra bass string really works!
What can you say !. Completely Ridiculous !. Doesn’t get any better than this !. Marvellous ! .
Thank you SO much for posting this. Absolutely wonderful.
John Pizzarelli, maravilloso Guitarrista, Cantante Músico...Y sus Músicos...WOW, Los amo!
Every time I see John I think of a interview that was done with his dad and John. When Bucky was asked if he learned anything from John he replied yes what Tie to wear. Great musicians father and two sons.
👍😂
I love how the pianist in his solo employs the extra bottom notes as a response to John's 7th string use

John, YOU ARE THE BIGGEST SLAP TO ALL OF US SELF CALLED GUITARISTS :0S
WOW!!!!!
The Force is strong in these ones
We're seeing the trio in LA in August - sure wish Ray Kennedy was still with us, but I'm sure JP found someone excellent to replace him.
He's coming to Honolulu next month.... Yippee!
A Great player!
Hahaha, what kind of substance did all the band take before playing? hahaha
Like it!!
YESSS
Oh yes.. And Maui too!
awesome
I see him this Saturday at Birdland in NYC.
That’s killer!
Absolutely insane
I like this way better than Diana Krall who is for some reason better known. And they seem to have more fun on stage..
Would you say the same thing about Chris Potter or Michael Brecker?
How slow would you like them to play for it to be accurate improvisation?

Danny Bates -He's called Bucky, like his father?
Or is that his fadda's guitar?
I been in europe for the last 26 years, I'm kinda outta touch!
And I've been in Germany but once since 1989.
No he isn't but father's is John also. I wonder if that's his brother playing bass?
Anyone out there want to show me a better chord solo? I'd love to see it.

Yes, I think John is a great guitarist but his solo on this is boring.
Chord soloing?
he rips on 7s like his dad nice
What´s the piano players name?
i thought i was the only person who preferred to eat pics?
He looks like the guy from how I met your mother lol
holy george van eps O.O
Nice Bösendorfer.
I know it's a stretch for you be listening to jazz, but please refrain from commenting when you have no idea what you are talking about.
bill gates on piano XD
the less you talk about them the better. kind of just beating a dead horse here.
What are you even saying
GGUAAAAUUAUUUAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
เล่นคนเดียวไปเลย ดอกกกกกกกกก
Perryjpas
Ele destacou o pianista, mas ignorou o irmão. Muito feio.

Jealous perhaps?
