    I wonder if the results are skewed by the fact that participants were willing to meet someone and talk to someone who disagrees? My sense is this could signal an openness they have. While the people who view those disagree as "the enemy" would not even be willing to meet. Even so I love this project and hope that it's expanded.

      That's most probably true. Hence, this should been seen as a solution for those who are in fact willing to listen to different opinions. This doesn't work for everyone, but it doesn't have to. Those who do not want to engage in discussions need different solutions, and maybe in some years we will find a solution for them, too.

    Political tinder. Genius. People always say about things designed to prove a point, “at least we’re talking about it, that’s a start”. But no one has specifically started something to get people talking. This is a great idea, and individual one on one talking might just be the best way to heal the rift of division the world is in nowadays

      Couldn't agree with you more. Society seems to have forgotten that it's ok to disagree and still be respectful. Also send people need to be reminded that just because someone disagrees with you that they are not necessarily the enemy. We are all human and would do well to remember no one is perfect and that's ok.

    one thing they haven't realised: basic psychology says that openness to experience dictates political views in individuals to a great extent. Liberals are more open to experience (openness) than conservative right wingers.
    POINT: Only people with a fairly reasonable level of openness would sign up to this test hence from the BEGINNING it had already filtered out a lot of people who would have serious differences of opinion that this test would be unsuccessful on.
    Imagine asking a closed minded person if they wanted to take part in some strange experiment they had never heard of to meet random members of the public they had never met and who they thoroughly disagreed with They would categorically say NO CHANCE.
    I would argue that the fact the people got on in this test is due to this modicum of openness both to doing the test and to changing their minds.

      We see the same type of phenomenon here in the States with opinion polls. The vast majority don't agree with or support Trump, but the only ones who have or take the time to answer surveys about him are his supporters. So polls get pulled out saying that the approval is close, when in reality most don't support him, but they just don't feel the need to waste time on anything that says his name on it. They've been exhausted and numbed to it.

    • @ironturkey
      @ironturkey 5 років тому +1

      id have to disagree with you completely, I am extremely close minded and I would love to do something like this. I don't want my opinion changed but I DO want to learn and understand how the other side sees things because I think its beneficial to everybody. Having a strong opinion should mean that you do a lot of research and are not swayed by having an opposite voice arguing your opinion because fact trumps opinion and this applies to either side.

    • @mikaelgaiason688
      @mikaelgaiason688 5 років тому

      @@ironturkey Unfortunately facts are subjective these days, and anybody can find "evidence" that supports their opinion so they can parade it around as facts if they research long enough or do so with a bias they are seeking to confirm. Flat earthers, historical revisionists, and climate deniers are a prime example of this. I'm saying this in general, but for you specifically I would ask why you would admit to being "extremely close minded" and then say you would love doing something like this? Just to argue? If you go into it with the expectation of not being open there's no way you'll be open, so if you're wrong about something, as we all are in some way, you won't learn from it. And what makes you "strong opinion" fact and not someone else's? Wisdom is only found by constantly seeking new perspectives that change ones views, clinging to those views only leaves one in ignorance. All truly intelligent people through history have agreed with a single statement. "All I know is that I know nothing."

    People are good. Corruption is bad. Get the corrupt out of politics and the people will work it out. Special interests and greed set the whole world afire. Fix this and fix it all.

    • @acsiata
      @acsiata 5 років тому +3

      Naive thinking. Politicians are elected by the people, they are raised and educated by the same society (a politician literally represent the society and it's values) . As for corruption, it is part of the dark side of humanity (it will always be there) . Ps: Acting "good" when you have no power is of little moral value. Your real character is shown by the choices you make when you have power.

    • @Avitaser
      @Avitaser 5 років тому +1

      @@acsiata Narcissism, and thus, sociopathy is concentrated whereever power is. Politicians are not a reflection of the people they represent, they are a representation of people who seek power. 4 - 6% of the general population are sociopaths. This is concentrated and magnified by politics and exploited by other criminal sociopaths in a self enrichment cycle that destroys the common people who becomes pawns and slaves to the angels of our darker nature.

    • @mikaelgaiason688
      @mikaelgaiason688 5 років тому +1

      @@acsiata Politicians aren't elected by the people. The options are controlled and limited. They aren't raised in the same society, they grow up outside the normal experiences of the average citizen. Afluenza is a recognized disease, and it's logical to assume they suffer from it. That causes a whole different set of values. Values themselves are a very complicated philosophical topic that you REALLY shouldn't throw around lightly in a YT comment, especially when speaking in absolutes and using words like "literally." Corruption isn't a natural human trait of humanity, it's a natural trait of oppressive systems. Nothing more. It won't always be there, or it would have been there from the beginning. There was a HUGE amount of time where humanity had no place or need for corruption, or any way to implement it. As for your ps, that gets into ethics. Another philosophical topic that has been debated for hundreds of years. I hate to say it, but all the philosophers that spent lifetimes wrestling with just that one topic all came to the exact opposite conclusions you have. I don't hold it against you though, because you simply repeat the same thing others say even though they haven't actually looked into it. But if you actually read into it I'm sure you will find the many volumes that have been written on these topics. Hint: Don't listen to second rate psychiatrists like Peterson who aren't qualified to comment on fields they don't know or understand. Everybody who did all the work is long dead and don't have YT channels, you'll have to do some reading.

    • @1i2cVision
      @1i2cVision 5 років тому

      The main thing that affects our lives is money. Then greed, power, control and corruption. We are for sure social, but we also have to think of our survival. The survival instincts are what kicks in. Factor in that survival and living is our number one principal, followed by sexual urges, in order to reproduce, our complexities are biased and always will be. Who ever manages to dominate, will influence. Following a structure of life that reduces the need to think and have things taken out of our hands is the reason for the mass electing leadership. Leadership takes skills in a number of ways, even if it means lying to its supporters. This is where we get conflict. If you ever want to know a truth and what is right or wrong, you can use your human primitive instincts. Gut feelings for example. If you need to identify how easy life could be, you only have to look at the order of everything else that lives in our world. That pretty much follows the simplest solution. We have our answers to how to live and how to survive, but we choose to ignore the world around us, because we choose to question everything and change everything. Add to that, the businesses that wish to exploit and ply us needless things. Our evolution has given us much and taken away a lot. We are born, but do not choose to, we live, and try to find a path through the maze, and we die, asking what all that was about and with nothing. If we chose a simple life and lived off the land, rather than our 'fake' world that offers a multitude of distractions and influences, we would certainly do nothing but be social and interact. It's about understanding that we are manipulated and easily exploited. Out intelligence is our weakness. The psychologists amongst us would know this and the Governments would invest in this to manage the masses. Today we are constantly attacked by an onslaught of things that target us and aim to divide. We like the idea of this topic because we identify with it, recognise and yearn for it, but in reality, like the experiment it is, it will fizzle and die. The system has plans to diminish our personalities, our thoughts, possibly because of food shortages, land space, energy usage, pollution, any number of things, where culling is still a necessity but in a discreet method. In the long run, the way technology is going, they'll also most likely turn us into a cyborg, because our behaviour rebels, has different opinions and makes overall the process of following one direction difficult. Bottom line, in alignment with the idea, we do need to all follow the same path and same route. We should not have conflict, but we'd find that boring and need to push against boundaries to break new thresholds, but again, we are only going around in circles. It's an endless debate and we will continue as we are until we hit a reset point. In the past, that has been a war or an epidemic that takes us back. We are our own worst enemies and destroying the world we live on daily is the most amazing thing. We do actually work collectively, in destroying ourselves. The complete run down of humanity, I hope you and others realise the quest for harmony is a pipe dream.

    This comment section is full of THE EXACT KIND of imbecilic, liberal, stupidity, balderdash, and douchebaggery that I would expect, given it's title. What a pack of disgusting, abysmally ignorant, scum bags and fools there are, who have the audacity to voice their DANGEROUSLY STUPID opinions!! You'd THINK that the fools who know NOTHING about the REAL World, would have just, barely, a modicum of SENSE, enough to understand that they know NOTHING, but NOPE!! They're actually THAT stupid!
