    My favorite part was Vin standing up for Eland in front of the entire crew, calling the crew "Noblemen but without the titles" that was so amazing and Vin is such a badass!

    I LOVED THIS VIDEO! And this book, dear lord. I also loved the relationship between Vin and Kelsier! the way he treated her pretty much like an equal and never like a child and their father-daughter bonding and how he completely changed her opinion on respect. Plus I just love that THAT's like the main relationship of this book; a platonic bond between a teenage girl and an older dude! Of course there was Elend, but Vin's relationship with Kelsier was much more central to the story, which I thought was really great for a change!

      Yes! Kelsier is my favorite from this book. The ending truly devastated me. Like?? How are we going to continue this way? But I'm on well of ascension now and I'm looking forward to meet new characters!

    • @ginge641
      @ginge641 5 років тому +1

      And their relationship was a microcosm of what Kelsier wanted to do with the entire skaa population, convert them from pragmatic pessimism and fear to trusting optimism.

    This is my favourite series by far. I love how you get extremely subtle clues about the ending, the secrets and the mysteries but not quite enough for you to put them all together and be certain of what's going to happen.
    Get reading the other two books!!!

    I HAD THE EXACT REACTION WHEN KELSIER DIED! I was like NOPE he's just faking it, he'll come back because he's Kelsier and can't die... *gross sobbing*

    I fell in love with this book when I first read it years ago. Brandon Sanderson is an absolute genius. You all need to read his book, The Way of Kings from his series The Stormlight Archives. If you liked Mistborn even a little, you will LOVE it!

    • @depressedtv
      @depressedtv 7 років тому +3

      If I want to convince people Brandon Sanderson is good, I'll recommend Mystborn. And then, once they're sold, it's on to the Stormlight Archives! It's going to be quite awesome by the end of the series, when all the heroes are together.

    From the way you talk about the "believable" magic in this story, I recommend you to read The Name of the Wind. It has something similar, and really cool. Also, it's a great story. I think you mentioned it as being in your TBR list, and if you're facing the same doubts you once had about this one, trust me... you're gonna love it.
    PS: I've only watched till you announced the end of the spoiler free zone. I have The Final Empire on my Kindle, ready to read soon, so shhh, no spoilers. I'll come back once I've read it.

    All the characters in this book were entertaining and exciting but Sazed really stood out. He was comforting and safe and so calm and collected. Like if he was in the scene, I instantly felt that nothing could go wrong. Plus, I mean he had a great sense of humor haha :D

    So happy more people are reading Brandon, his books are phenomenal especially once you've worked your way through everything in the Cosmere so far and can look back on all the connections and clues ahh so amazing, the Mistborn series just gets better and better, things in the first book you thought weren't that important tie back up in the final book and the just the way the series as a single story is crafted is mind blowing, once you've finished this series, you absolutely NEED to read the rest of his work to get into the rest of the Cosmere!! :)

      The reason why Kell's death didn't sink in until the very end is because I feel like Brandon didn't dwell long enough on it, and that made me delude myself into thinking he was gonna come back. But he never did and it felt a little anticlimactic. I wish he gave us enough time to mourn him, especially when no one in the crew really did either

    I think the first one was my favourite because the next two have a distinct lack of Kelsier but they're both amazing can-I-give-it-more-than-five-stars? books anyway. But then I took part in a Mistborn pen and paper RPG and was sooooooo fascinated with it that I piacked the first book up right away - and I loved it sooooo much, it might just be the best book I read in ages! I'm currently reading the second book which I love just as much

    Brandon Sanderson is a fantasy god! His world building blows my mind -- he has some amazing articles on the subject that have changed the way I write. His articles on magic systems are also amazing. Have you listened to his podcast, Writing Excuses? I feel like you would really appreciate it.
    It's fun to hear you enthuse about this book! It was a little dark for me, so I didn't like it very much, but I still love Brandon Sanderson's writing. Have you read Elantris? It's my favorite of his.

    While I definitely prefer Mistborn to its sequel, (The Well of Ascension) I cannot WAIT to read the final book in the trilogy and the spin off novels! Brandon Sanderson is quickly becoming a fave author, and the novel of his that I enjoyed the most (read as: absolutely LOVED) is The Way of Kings. It was the first Sanferson book I read and it is AMAZING. The sequel is great too! I can't wait for book three; seriously, The Stormlight Archive is already a major fave of mine and it's not even close to being finished! I DEFINITELY recommend that you read Way of Kings soon!

    Just finished this last night!!
    I loved this book. I agree wth everything you said. Unfortunately I also thought about kelsier possibly becoming a martyr. I remember Sazed telling him about the religions where people had hoped and their leader and all of that stuff and I thought he might... But like you said I also thought there was a good chance he wouldn't. I knew in the end him or Vin would kill the Lord Ruler so I was still surprised when he killed him after he killed the inquisitor. Like you, I thought for sure when it happened that he had some plan set up where he wasn't REALLY dead... I wish he could have seen the skaa rebel, Marsh alive, the Lord Ruler die.. All of that. But if he had to die I think it makes a lot of sense to be from the Lord Ruler's hand in the end.. I teared up when Vin read the letter about how he would tell Mare about her and she always wanted a daughter. :'(

      sorenkrane You can tell Brandon Sanderson worked under Robert Jordan. These books could be condensed so much. Probably even cut in half. Once something happened they were enjoyable, imo, but not mindblowingly good. Definitely mediocre, even as a whole series.

    I just started "The Hero of Ages." It's very very good. It wasn't quite as good as "The Final Empire" but it is a great continuation of the story. The only problem is that the best characters, Kelsier, is dead at the end.
    Without spoiling "Well of Ascension," I'll just say that Eland takes on a very large role. The character development of the character of Mistborn is really phenomenal.

    I read this book three times. Awe.... some. This is being made into a movie. There is already a couple hundred million lined up to finance it. Seriously. Just hope it turns out well!

    I adore this trilogy. I bought the mm paperback box set read it several and I'm going to have to by the hardcovers because I want a much tougher copy. Plus... you can order them signed...
    The world building is fantastic. The best part is the series is basically a taking of common fantasy tropes and then tearing them apart. The second book gives you clues that you don't notice until the end and then you're like OH SHIT!!!. But I don't want to get too spoilery. Also Hoid. Notice that name. Read more of Sanderson's books. Mindplosion.

    Great review ***** :) I listened this on audiobook and it was a great experience! I notice that you pronounce some of the characters' names differently than what I heard on the audiobook. Elend = "elle-and" and Sazed = "say-zed". I mean no disrespect, just wanted to mention it! Have a great day :)

    I must say that a little low light is that some tropes are being played a bit too straight, Vin and Elend are interesting characters, but she clearely gets the Chosen One role (althought her amazing characterization lessens the problem, but still the small orphan in a not-so-happy life who finds out to have incredible powers is too much of a classic), and their relationship is a bit too predictable, and it stands out because everything else is either a decostrunction or a very interesting way to play on High Fantasy, still Sanderson is an amazing writer and this book deserves all the praises he gets, I can't wait to buy and read the two sequels and the sequel trilogy, I'm curious to see more, finding the answers to all the questions and misteries and see those amazing characters once again (and to see the Cosmere, I've heard the series starts going in that direction).

    You were not the only one that was intimidated. Tom Doherty also postponed his reading because it was so thick and could go through several other books in the time it would have taken to go through Mistborn. It took about a year for him to get to this book. He liked the book enough to offer the publish the book, but unfortunately Brandon Sanderson had moved by the time he wanted to make the offer since Brandon have moved, so his phone, email, and address had all changed. Fortunately for you he managed to track down Brandon.

    I am gonna say, I was kind of pissed off at the final ending(as in end of book 3). Like I understood it, but it was a bit of a *rolls-eyes* moment. Anyway regardless its like one of my favourite series so im so glad you are enjoying it
