    10:54 How to pick a saddle (If you ride 10+ hours a week / sitbone measurement etc.)
    How to pick the right mountain bike saddle (seat). This is a question we get A LOT, there are endless saddle / seat options out there for your bicycle. Finding the right one for your build, bicycle, and preferences can be a bit tricky. We decided to take the guess work out of it and compiled a list of our favorite and top selling MTB saddles / seats. Although brands like Ergon and WTB have traditionally dominated the mountain bike saddle/seat market, we have seen smaller brands like Deity and SDG come to the table with top notch saddle/seat options as well.
    In addition to laying out our favorite saddles/seats, we interview a few of the guys at the shop to get their personal saddle/seat choice and why. Finally, Jeff talks with Jonathan Lee to lay out a few strategies you can use when picking your next saddle/seat. If you suffer from a sore bum while riding, this episode is for you!

      @WorldwideCyclery  4 роки тому +35

      That's a super valid question. The funny part is as you're a more advanced bike nerd you know the terms like seat post and seat tube but that's when you start calling it saddle 😅

      Think of your bike as a horse...then you know why seats are called saddles

    • @henkki1000
      @henkki1000 4 роки тому +23

      Because it is a saddle. A saddle is a type of seat where you sit with one leg on either side. If you just say "seat" it could be anything. A chair, a bench, a toilet seat, a children's seat, a bar stool, a sofa or ejection seat.

    Thanks for making a video on this! I typically ride 5-8 hours per week but I tend to do more 'trail' riding with a good mix of climbing and descending. My saddle definitely doesn't fit super well but I really had now clue where to start looking. For reference, I have a Bontrager saddle on my MTB (not sure which model), and a Fabric saddle on my gravel bike. I've definitely noticed how quickly the fabric saddle gets narrow which I'm not a big fan of so maybe I need to try one that's a bit wider. Thanks for all of your tips!

    I'm still using a WTB Pure I took off a 2005 Kona Stinky on my aggressive hardtail. Thankfully it's in great condition because I mostly ride downhill and not very often. 15 years ago WTB saddles were not available in my country and I fell in love with it when I saw a Stinky at a bike shop. Lucky for me it was intended to be stripped for parts and the cockpit and saddle were still available.

      for Triathlon, is completely recommended take your bike to a professional bike fitting service, because the posture on the bike completely relies on your flexibility. Doesn't matter if the saddle is the correct one, if your bars are too low for your flex, or your saddle is too far forward on the rails. Just my 2 cents.

    In Texas we pedal a lot for short fast downhill mountain biking. Recently getting back into the sport everyone I met was on WTB, after going through 4 of their models none worked. Went through 5 other brands $150-$400 same bad feel. Then picked up a Ergon enduro pro and was perfect, 15-20 miles of pedaling became a joy. I just say go sit on a few, as everyone is different. TBH most downhill riders rarely sit on their saddle and would not know any difference between them other than "style". Also just recently ordered a rear shock upgrade from ya'll great price and fast shipping, I will be back.

    At the end of the day, it's personal preference. I run a goofy looking Specialized "body form" seat when riding distance or out on a family ride but if there's some nice hill action then out comes my nice light, slim kind of uncomfortable in the long run Nukeproof. The body form is unrivalled so far in comfort but it's cumbersome hitting hills.
    You might find a cheap Apollo (Halfords special) seat feels good to you. Run it. Who cares if you're on a Yeti and you're putting a seat from a £200 junker on there. The best bike in the world is the bike you like to ride the most.

    Question: wrt Jonathan Lee’s “give your body some time” - has this been quantified in terms of mileage or hours on one’s steed?

    What's the difference between the enduro and the enduro comp? Just a different type of foam and the oil slick option for the rails? Would the foam be worth the price increase, or is this just marketing for the rails?
    Edit: Also, how strong is the wear on these? They're obviously kinda pricey and I don't know if one should treat this more as a wear item and go through the cheap ones.

    Can we get a guide to chamois?

  • @mattiasandersson3444

    It´s TOTALLY individual. I use Selle Italia SLR Superflow, Specialized S-works Power * 2 . I thinks it easier with the new short saddles in techical terrain & decents without dropper

    I ride a lot no chamois. Specialized Power is a good pick. Cheap saddles work due to padding but real fit comes without a lot of padding

    25 years ago, I had a Ritchey saddle that came on my Marin. I never wanted anything else after that.

    I came looking for the correct lengths for saddles that were "necessary" for thigh control and climbing. Is there a length minimum that is considered too short? I know Specialized sells there wider saddles that are considered by there website to be both road and mountain like the Power Comp, but these are shorter are these too short?
