Fun fact! From the original comic book, the spy who enters the robot ends up getting shut inside thanks to a previous explosion sealing the exit/entry point shut. There are a lot of other fun tidbits, but I think this would be interesting to some.
In the original comic, I believe it was a gamma bomb that actually turned Bruce into the Hulk the first time. During the test, he went onto the field after seeing Rick "accidentally" drive onto it, threw him into a safety trench but didn't make it himself. They showed him screaming, then days later his face was still in the screaming position when he finally woke up in the hospital.

Back in Peter David's run on the Hulk, there was the green Hulk we're familiar with and a grey Hulk who went by "Mr. Fixit" and worked for a Las Vegas casino. The green Hulk has the massive strength, the grey Hulk was less powerful, but had enough intelligence to get by and massive cunning, while Dr. Banner had no strength and a massive intellect.
Doc Samson more or less diagnosed him as a multiple personality (dipping into some childhood stuff to see the pieces of his personality) as well as a shapeshift and managed to create an integrated one. The brains. The cunning. The strength. Green Hulk body, with a mind taking Banner's brains and combining it with Fixit's cunning.
Betty wasn't happy with the result. When told she knew the risk beforehand, she said she understood the risks of FAILURE... but he considered this to be a rousing success.
I'm not thrilled with this plot, mostly because I think we've seen the same thing a few times, just with different props. Honestly, Dr. Banner and the army must have some kind of ironclad contract (both ways), because he keeps designing stuff for the army, and Ross keeps thinking the worst of him. Meanwhile, Banner keeps on designing stuff for the army, instead of seeing if the Navy is hiring weapon designers.
This was the beginning of the Tales to Astonish run after the Hulk was canceled with issue 6. And the beginning of the Leader saga ending with the Watcher's Ultimate Machine.

This show followed the comic books exactly. The Fantastic Four show from 1967 also followed the comic books. Why didn't Spiderman follow the comics?
It did spiderman series didn't actually use the comics panel you see in this series or the other series they still used the stories in the comics but not the comics panel
