I HIGHLY recommend downloading "the six simple steps" document while watching videos 1-6. Following along makes it incredibly easy to understand. This by far is the best way to mix for both beginners and advanced engineers alike.
Great Boss!! In case someone is sitting like me in a bedroom without any damping i would like Colin already mention recommend to get a pair of good headphones, For me that make a ton of difference. The room reflection will aim you in the wrong direction and you will maybe reduce to much of the bass that the room adds or anything else, Just a reminder when it comes to homestudios, Then listen in several speakers of course, You will get in the right direction faster with good mixing headphones if your room isnt optimal for mixing. Thanks Boss!
Thank you for a great lesson. I'm hoping to train my ears to hear the difference between presence and loudness, this is still a bit wooly for me, I will also be using sound gym to help recognise frequencies. I couldn't really tell much difference between the EQ and no EQ at the end yet, hopefully my ears get more attuned.
Really enjoyed this video....its like watching you critic my song....and I like the song more and more....hook is great When you get old you repeat yourself....
Hi Colin. Big fan of your channel! I’m a big fan of your mixing course as well. Thank you so much for all of your advice. You are helping so many people!! Question… I like the sound of the drums and the patterns as well. Would you mind sharing which Drummer and which kit you started with? if I were to guess, I would say Kyle Pop rock? possibly some variation of the SoCal kit? I can see you have converted it to MIDI and made some custom adjustments. But I would just be curious what your starting point was. Thank you so much!
People listen I found this video researching EQing on logic Now when he said go check out the first 2 parts my ego came in and I said he can’t really teach me something I don’t already know I WAS WRONG now I’m here talking to your EGO go back and watch the first 2 thank me later it’s not about what you know it’s about technique and how to implement your knowledge he’s a great teacher so students Learn up
Thanks for another great tutorial. This series is great. A question regarding composition, have you, or do you consider reducing the amount of tracks to enhance dynamics and space? My experience with this feels like every time I add a new idea/track I sometimes eliminate or overshadow something really cool in the context of the song.
Definitely! I think there are some cases for both- I like to include elements that are felt, not heard. But a lot of songs call for a sparser, less dense mix. This song is definitely not example of that haha
Thanks Collin! A question, do you use MainStage? It would be nice to know your opinion, as well as a short tutorial with your teaching skills. Greetings and thanks!
@@TheBandGuide Let me ask you a question. I use physical pedals (analog and digital) to generate the sound I'm looking for from both guitar and bass, and I try to make them sound the best to process eq and compression in the daw, without using amp plugins or pedals. My question is whether it would be a good idea to take the sound that comes out of the pedals to the daw without reverb and delay to add them in Logic, or if I should keep the sound that I get from the pedals and record directly. I feel that tomorrow if I take my recordings live, I won't be able to get the same results if I use plugins. I do not know if you understand.
I don't understand why Apple doesn't take time to give logic a really good quality EQ similar to what fab filter to offers or when it comes to alchemy why they don't redo the interface and make it much more user-friendly more along the lines of serum etc. I feel like if they made a couple of adjustments to the interface of things they already have they could probably swing a ton more people onto their DAW Added edit If the interface on alchemy was as user-friendly as it is in serum or massive I would never use any other synths And people who pay for serum might be very tempted to pay for logic because they would get an entire DAW with the alchemy synthesizer sets and they would understand how to work it it would be a magnet for new producers to try their software rather than Ableton or FL Etc.

This is one of the most useful channels on YT.
Ngl EQ seemed like the most intimating part of music making I wasn't ready for but this explanation makes a lot of sense
🙌🏼 I felt the exact same way. You got this!

I don’t know if it’s your voice or how clear and succinct this is but you seem like you know what you’re doing.

Hey! You know, I don't... but I've always been curious about it. I think if I played keyboards live I would absolutely be using it in my live setup.

I like the song
And thank you for such kind of video
I've gotten so sick of hearing Kyle's drums, but you actually manage to make him sound kinda cool. Thanks!
That's high praise!
Good job 👍🏾 Bravo 👏
Greetings all. Q: In the EQ window, what do the numbers on the vertical axis, far left , represent? Thank you.
Great question! That's the dB (volume) level for the boost or cut
Did you release this single? i don't see it on spotify.
I don't understand why Apple doesn't take time to give logic a really good quality EQ similar to what fab filter to offers or when it comes to alchemy why they don't redo the interface and make it much more user-friendly more along the lines of serum etc.
I feel like if they made a couple of adjustments to the interface of things they already have they could probably swing a ton more people onto their DAW

Hey man I appreciate your work but I would like to see you mix rap vocals
