    New Vids Weekly!
Here is a mixtape recapping some of Alonzo Mourning's career in the NBA.
Nick-named the 'Zo', Mourning was an incredible defensive player, known for his extremely high intensity, loyalty and devotion as a player and having a huge heart.
Alonzo Mourning, in full Alonzo Harding Mourning, Jr., byname Zo, (born February 8, 1970, Chesapeake, Virginia, U.S.), American professional basketball player who was notable for recovering from a kidney transplant to win a National Basketball Association (NBA) championship with the Miami Heat in 2006.
Mourning-a center 6 feet 10 inches (2.08 meters) tall-played collegiate basketball at Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C. He was the second overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets, and he spent three seasons with the team before being traded to the Heat. A seven-time NBA All-Star, he was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1999 and 2000 and earned first-team All-NBA honors in 1999. He won gold medals with the U.S. team at the 1994 world championships and at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
Shortly after the Olympics, he was diagnosed with focal glomerulosclerosis, a disease that affects the filtering process of the kidneys. Mourning played in only 13 games the following season but recovered to make the NBA Eastern Conference All-Star Team in 2002. His condition worsened, however, and he sat out the 2002-03 season. As a free agent, he signed a four-year contract with the New Jersey Nets in 2003 but was forced to retire in November because of his kidney problems. He received a kidney from his cousin in December and began working toward an NBA comeback soon thereafter.

@@mr.effective9619 hakeem the dream olajuwon hold the record for blocks . olajuwon was just unreal, a big man but move and spin like a guard. zo and ewing are my other favorite big man also. growing up in the 90, we had no cable tv, i couldn't wait till weekend to see the nba on nbc, love those rivalries, knicks vs pacers, rockets vs spurs, etc. the battle of the big men were epic, shag vs everyone, ewing vs olajuwon vs david robinson, webber, rashee wallace, zo. now the nba is just a bunch or dribblers hosting up 3s. no fundamental basketball at all. those guys would have eaten embid and golbert for lunch.

ZO was one of the best centers of the 90's and 00's. He was along side David Robinson and Dekembe Moutombo the best rim protectors of that era. ZO was strong as an ox and he was probably the center after Moutombo that wanted to block all the dunks possible. Excellent mid range shooter aswell and very good defensive rebounder.

I want everybody to know these things about me, so that you understand where, when, and how I grew up: Born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. A stiff who didn't have cable TV until I was 18. A dork who bought all 5-6 NBA pre-season publication magazines, from when I was 18-24 or so. Some comments in the summer of 1992, after the Hornets drafted Alonzo Mourning: "The perfect player, for the perfect team." And, "Look at who's going to the playoffs." Of course Shaquille O'Neal was the runaway first choice and better player, but in just about any other year, Mourning would have been the #1 pick and Rookie of the Year. Offensively, with his jump shot AND 75%+ free-throw shooting (Georgetown, Hornets years), he was VERY polished. Remember, I was born in 1973 in Seattle. In 1993, one of my friends had this Charlotte Hornets T-shirt, that had that teal blue. I remember REALLY loving that Hornets teal blue color! It seemed very fitting, for a new expansion team starting up in the late 1980s. Oh! I had this rubber basketball that I bought in 1994, which was teal blue and transparent. It had "Zo" on the front of it, with Alonzo Mouring's "stamped signature."
