My son did the lost coast hiking with his Boys Scout Troop 220 from San Jose about 3 years ago when the was 14. I'm so proud of him. Also and specially proud of you doing this alone and cherishing the beauty of our Northern California. Thank you for doing this and sharing the beauty with us.
I day hiked the Black Sand beach north from Shelter Cove in mid-February. There was snow on King’s Peak, so it was chilly that year. I was briefly followed by a curious mountain lion down the beach, which was unexpected. It was a pretty epic day. I love the Lost Coast. I did find some rather large cat tracks in the snow the next day, and wandered into a heard of Elk the next. Memorable.
I liked the dog edits where he was flopped all over the bed in different positions while you were talking :). Hopefully you do some trips with your dog in the future. I am a dog dad to a golden retriever and it's awesome to go on trips with your dog, the only down side is it does limit some of the areas that you can go since the national parks often frown upon dogs on the trail. There are still plenty of wilderness areas that have no dog restrictions. The shelter cove to mattole stretch of the lost coast is also dog friendly.
Thanks for the trail breakdown with your thoughts and tips - that’s incredibly helpful. I love the lost coast and have spent so much time there - I’m tempted to move to it. The beauty is shocking - pretty much no video does it any justice until you’re there and by yourself. Sometimes I get irrationally worried that it’ll be ruined the more publicity it gets, but it’s so remote that I think that’d be pretty difficult. You basically have to really know and want to be there - it’s not a day trip or casual visit type of place. Which I guess is why I love it.
I just returned from Mattole Beach campground. We hiked out to the lighthouse and were welcomed by a large population of elephant seals. Stunningly beautiful and remote. I'm glad that I found your channel.
I have also camped out there and it's pretty darn magic. Maybe invest in a wind screen for you camera mic. Many of the beaches there are various grades of gravel and not sand, per-se. I was surprised you could get all that gear into your pack. Nice job on your vid.
Amazing, isn't it! Well done! I did this in December for a 4 days stretch, was perfect. I have the adventure up on my channel! Planning on doing it every 1st week of November for my birthday! You should take me on a hike with ya!
That sounds like such a great ritual! I definitely need to get back up there to do the southern section, but my next few trips will be in the Sierras 🏔
Hiking on the beach must be exhausting after awhile. I got into Red Dead Redemption 2 last year and it gobbled up my time. Suddenly making videos didn't seem that important anymore!
Great video! I am going in October this year. My friend whom was going to go bailed so even tho I have two permits to hike, I’ll be likely going solo just as you did. Any pointers outside of the tide zones?
That’s gonna be a great time to go! I bet the weather will be fantastic! You will have a good time solo, but if you want to find someone to go with, I bet you’ll find someone on r/norcalhiking (Reddit) 😄
@@drummindreams Yes, but I would recommend using minimalist gaiters as well. I wore La Sportiva Bushido's for my most recent hike of the trail, and combined with Dirty Girl Gaiters I had no problem with sand.

I just got my permit for May this morning! Thanks for the awesome documentation of the trail.

Sounds like you had a great trip! The elephant seals were such a pleasant surprise! I had no idea they would be there!
What a majestic scenery, this video is pure art! Simply outstanding work, after Iceland maybe your best video.👌👌
Oh my gosh, this comment is so nice it literally had me tearing up 🥹 thanks so much!!
I was up in Trinidad and Eureka this past summer.
This stretch looks beautiful and very demanding.
Thank you.
Thanks, Living in Reno, NV. Cold!!! Looking at Lost Coast for Jan or Feb., 2023 ! Thanks
Absolutely Love your channel!! Keep grinding 🥾🎒⛺️
Loved the video, the breathing costars were a fun addition, especially the big guy on the bed. Well done!
Thanks so much! Hopefully I can get him in the channel some more :)

Really great scenery and congrats on adopting the big dog. They rock!
Thanks! Its amazing how quickly I just totally fell in love with him! Hopefully I can get him to go hiking with me this summer :)
Super Helpful, Thank you for sharing.
You should do the southern section as well! Its more elevation gain and more varied in scenery.
I know! I want to go do that section as well!
Awesome, thank's.

@@ReignDog Same. I'm excited that the Sonora Pass is finally open!
@@Pacman259 Awesome! I'm definitely going to start planning then. Thanks for letting me know it's open!

Ughh... tell me about it! Elden Ring also just came out at exactly the right time to sit around and do nothing but play!

I'd say take just what you need, leave most luxury items behind. The rocks do a number on your ankles, the less weight on your feet the better.
@@Pacman259 great recs and would trail runners be okay such as my Altras?

What tent do you use?
Your awesome .
I hear the west ciast trail is all ladders. Due to the errosion. Theres a youtube video
You’re brave to even do it solo
Thank you for saying that!
yes, stunning and brave. 😂
SF is NOT the de facto capital of Northern California.
What else is ? Arcata?
i decided to not watch anymore because of music
please shut the music off lets listen to nature
