In college,I would think of a character trait or idea I wanted, and then write down many different ideas- brainstorming.maybe you could try that.

Hi Matt, I love your biblical characters. I much prefer them to your portraiture. Thank you for always praying for us artist viewers before starting the videos.

I think as an artist sometimes it's hard to choose because God puts so much beauty in front of you. Simple things that are often overlooked or not overlooked by an artist. You have to do what is in your heart. Because your heart is where God resides. I have a saying.... Nothing could bring me closer to God than being an artist. Follow your heart The rest will follow. ❤

Hi Alan! I find it very hard too, to choose what to paint! I see so much beauty in landscapes, and now that I live in the country, sometimes I want to paint my backyard. But I am primarily a portrait/ figurative painter, so I have to focus on that. But I can paint other things from time to time. As a Christian, I believe God has cleansed my heart from a lot of evil. Not saying I’m perfect…just ask my wife! But I’m not the person I used to be. And God has put in my heart, I believe, the desire to paint people praying and other inspirational ideas like this one. Yes, God is the Master Artist and when we create the beautiful things He puts into our heart, I believe we are being like Him! Blessings to you.
