- The Godfather of Soul's only performance in Mainland China, at the sold-out Yunfeng Theater (capacity 1300) in Shanghai. His performance contract limited video recording to the first two songs, for promotional purposes only.

Great footage! It's weird seeing a show from this era without either Keith Jenkins or Damon Wood. They were JB's core guitarists by the mid-2000s (along with JB's son Darryl).

Damon Wood’s excellent autobio says they were both fired before this one, mostly for money-issues. Everyone got fired at least once in the James Brown Band. Except for Damon it was permanent. Keith was back in the band within a few weeks.

This is the first '06 footage of JB that I've seen where he was really on his game. His decline that year must've been shortly after this concert.
You should peep his performance at the UK Music Hall of Fame. It's his last ever performance and thus the oldest he's ever been while performing but paradoxically I'd say his energy is still top notch there.

As a 62 year old Soul Sistah, I must say, at first glance, I was disappointed at seeing all the White face's in the band of Mr. Brown...but OMG, Muah to this Phenomenal Band!!! From the horns, as well as strings but the dancer's and singer's 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️😳🤔INCLUDING the Sistah's were offensive to my eye's and heart!!! No Soul in ANY of them!!!! Are there NOHHH Sistah's out there who would be honored to perform with A Living Legend???!!! ESPECIALLY The KING OF SOUL👑 HIMSELF???!!!! Maybe they thought the Godfather of Soul was Elvis 🤦♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️

mistyharding5285, no disrespect, I think your comment is a bit racist, was Mr Brown's choice who performed or not in his band, I think despite that white faces, still a great band.
In fact James Brown was welcoming all races … : but he also said once on tv show that he is able to make anyone plays like “James brown “ style and saw him training white folks to play his unique funky soul …. I played music with white folks playing african music or salsa or even funk .. I am not less black or betraying any value by doing so .., I do like that saxophonist he is pretty good ..

It is not nice to let people wait so long until the star appears on stage. And the performance looks a bit like a session in a retirement home. All musicians are past 65, only the girls are young. Sorry. I love James Brown, but his kind of music, his kind of energy cannot be performed convincingly by a 72-year-old.
I think he did great here, this and his appearance at the UK Music Hall of Fame are easily the best of his really late performances. His energy is still there I would say.
