I am grateful to say I have never had to use bear spray in the wild but you would be so suprised how many people have bear mace and have no idea how to use it. Great video
Great video once again, Lake Mc Donald is just stunning! Our favourites: • very informative • the music vibe is so cool • have learned a lot about Bear Spray, • “talking and singing” helps! Our choice: front pocket/hip clip counter attack bear spray! c/t USE SAFELY!
I've heard that noise makers are helpful also when you're walking along with HEY BEAR-HEY BEAR-if more people respected wildlife and took time to learn about them it would save millions of animal's lives I'm learning all I can and watching all I can.
Yes, if they can hear you coming they will usually leave the area. Hiking with our daughters was a natural deterrent because they talked so much. But, if you are near a river or the wind is strong it's harder for them to hear you coming. Yelling out is a great way especially around blind curves.
One of those things that you hope you never have to use but it's best to know the right way to do it if the situation does come up! You had a stunning backdrop for this video as well, so beautiful with the mountains and the water in the back!
Hey, April just posted a photo at Lake McDonald on FB yesterday! It was a month before the fire in 2018...she says you should friend request her (if you want 😉) That stinks that your husband accidentally set it off and you were in the wind of it! Didn't know about the zig-zag spray pattern
You can rent it for around $18 a day or you can buy it for around $40/can. Costco has a 2 pack for $50 I think, but a sporting goods store is $40-$50 for one.
your video is very helpful for adventurers in bear country, so how was this spray smell like why bears go away? anyway I like your background such a lovely nature!
I had no idea bear spray was even a thing so I naturally had to watch this video and find out more. Being from the UK, we don't really have any wild bears so this was eye opening. Is it like a very strong pepper spray?
“Hi Bear…nice bear!” Love it! I’ve have my share of encounters with bears while fishing in Alaska, but thankfully we didn’t have any problems with them charging :-) Thanks for the tips!!
@@RadiantRealtyMT Oh, it was a while back when I went, so unfortunately, no video ☹️...but yes, we did eat some of what we caught! The Arctic Char was amazing, and we smoked a lot of Sockeye Salmon that we brought back with us.
hey guys loved your Italian video l forgot to like and comment sorry...we hiked the black canyon of the Yellowstone in the park Monday...its gotta be added to you early season hikes in the park.it was solid hike saw three grizzlies ....be bear safe...spray is better than a 44 mag almost always....right on we are going into the flint creek range tomorrow to a friends mining claim cabin...if rain and or snow allows( combo skiing and hiking west of Anaconda)
So...if you travel and hike you have to buy new bear spray and throw it out on every trip (you can't fly there with it or leave with it via plane). Is that what people do? c/t
If you're only in Glacier National Park for a day you can rent it from Apgar Village, but if you are there more than a day it's just as cost effective to buy it. I tell customers to donate it to someone coming off the plane or drop it in the bear spray box. I've been told those are donated to local Boy Scouts, etc.
@@RadiantRealtyMT I'm not really a "hiker" so it wouldn't be a concern for me but I was thinking...if you travel a lot and go hiking etc that would get tiring having to buy new spray ever where you go.
So true, but I think most people drive if they are seeing multiple national parks in one trip. I'm sure some fly to each one but I suppose if they can afford to do that they can afford to buy new bear spray ;p
Pretty useful to know! Although, I hope I never have to use this knowledge 😂 Good tips about being loud and singing as I'm sure a bear doesn't want to encounter us either!
Interesting! I haven't gone anywhere where I've needed bear spray yet haha :) by the way, that snow is just 😍😍 look at the mountains in the distance, simply amazing! c/t
This is really good to know! I live (and grew up in) Alberta where we have the Rocky Mountains, and I've spent a considerable amount of time in the mountains, never once learning how to use bear spray! You have a new follower (70) and I'm more than happy to support your channel! I do travel videos too, so please feel free to visit my channel and say hello anytime! :)
What? I can't believe you never took bear spray. Everyone talks about here, it's just kind of a given. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing. I will def check out your channel as well. We get a lot of visitors from Alberta to this area. It's a pleasure to meet you :)
This stuff comes in handy in Winnipeg lol
I didnt even know that such a Spray exists! Really interesting ;)
I am grateful to say I have never had to use bear spray in the wild but you would be so suprised how many people have bear mace and have no idea how to use it. Great video
Haha, seriously, why buy it if you aren't going to learn how to use it.
Thanks for sharing this!
Definitely needed to rehear these tips considering the warm weather we are having and getting out of winter!
It's been such a warm winter 🐻

Radiant Wanderings we haven’t been but it’s definitely on our radar now that we’ve seen how beautiful it is from your video!

I just moved out West and have not had to think about bears on hikes until recently. This is super helpful!
O'Driscoll Family thanks for watching. How do you like it out west?
We love it so far! I am surprised at how DIFFERENT it is though. We came from Newfoundland to BC and just how tall the trees are here is still unreal.
Oh wow, Newfoundland looks beautiful as well. Enjoy your new adventures!
Ok i really hope I will never ever need this! Really nice location!!
Haha, I hope you don't either ;p
Nice intro
Thankyou :)
Thanks for sharing the detailed guide, I am sure it will help a lot of hikers. The key is to not panic and use the spray as advised.
Haha, that's the tricky part.....not panicking ;p

Yeah, that's Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park. It helps living near such beautiful scenery ;p

Cool, I'll look her up :) Thanks! Yeah, that was NOT fun when that happened ;p
Ok, too many April's on Facebook ;p Can you pm me hers? Thanks!
She friend requested you :-)
Very informative. Good to keep in mind. :)
God your hubby was okay! This was very informative thank you for that!
Very informative!!
How much does cost? Thanks for the info!
You can rent it for around $18 a day or you can buy it for around $40/can. Costco has a 2 pack for $50 I think, but a sporting goods store is $40-$50 for one.
Radiant Wanderings That's so helpful! Thanks for a quick response.
your video is very helpful for adventurers in bear country, so how was this spray smell like why bears go away? anyway I like your background such a lovely nature!
It's like a giant can of Mace (pepper spray) It burns really bad - eyes, nose, skin...super painful.
I had no idea bear spray was even a thing so I naturally had to watch this video and find out more. Being from the UK, we don't really have any wild bears so this was eye opening. Is it like a very strong pepper spray?
Yup, exactly. Basically...a giant bottle of pepper spray. It comes out in a mist though.
I lived at a ski resort once. Bears would tear into the “bear proof” trash cans all the time. lol. New sub
Wow, those were some smart bears! Did you work there for the season?
“Hi Bear…nice bear!” Love it! I’ve have my share of encounters with bears while fishing in Alaska, but thankfully we didn’t have any problems with them charging :-) Thanks for the tips!!
Oh wow, fishing in Alaska is going to be incredible. Can't wait to see your videos of that!!! Are you eating what you catch???

Yeah, you can't take it on the plane. If it were to go off in the cargo hold it would effect everyone on the plane including the pilot :O

The two legged bear is more of the real threat than the four legged.
;p
I Like What Your Doing With The Channel I Just Subbed Thanks :-)
Great tutorial, but even greater scenery! We've never done Glacier National, but it's definitely on our radar!

Haha, well, when you do you'll be prepared now ;p Yeah, the mountains in Glacier National Park are just breathtaking.
Would it be helpful to listen to music without earbuds on? Will they hear it and get out of there? Or do I have to be the one talking or singing?
Yes, that should work also. 🐻
Great channel, have just subbed. Very useful info about the bear spray thanks. 👍🔔
From where can I get in Russia???
Please
You can buy bear spray on Amazon. :)
