Must have been related to my art teacher who stuck paint in front of first graders and then put me in timeout for the rest of the period for dipping my brush in it before she told us not to. 😅
In 5th grade we played recorders, I’m now going to 8th grade this upcoming school year playing clarinet for the second year and looking back on the recorders just hurts me 😅
I'm an amateur recorder player. When my 8-year-old daughter started playing the recorder at school, I showed her how to play and practiced with her, and as a result, her sound improved. She easily plays this tune. I think teachers at schools may not have enough time to practice with each pupil, so kids do not sound very good. Every instrument takes time to practice, even if it costs only 10€ 😊
our motto was "if you drop your recorder, you are going to pay me $1500 each" (which is directly translated from my mother tongue since I'm not english and it wouldn't make a lot of sense in the US"
My school did that too except they have a sheet you had to bring him with you so your parents could sign it saying : “yes, my child did practice this week” and if you forget your recorder, they’d punish you for it, three strikes and your out. That was fun. My current school has all grades play recorder. Fun
Third grade they gave me a violin. The teacher took me aside and taught me tablature instead of notes. Numbers for which fingers to be used where, still fretless, but with markings. How did everyone else learn to read music and play notes, I wondered? For the concert we played jingle bells. I realized I was out of time with everyone else, lifted my bow off the strings, and faked it.
In 5th grade I had the worst classmate ever. My music teacher gave us ukuleles and drums and expected him to not play it but he did. And one time we did a song involving the word "cream" and he yelled it.
I actually found a recorder, and don't understand why they didn't teach us to play them properly; they are beautiful instruments if you know what you're doing.
still have my recorder. it was a complete nightmare "DO NOT PLAY WHILE I'M EXPLAINING, WAIT UNTIL I TELL YOU TO" we had to record ourselves doing jingle bells with a Christmas hat in December 💀
We had to do a holiday performance in 4th grade in December 2016 too! A teacher was like “If your recorder touches your lips I will kick you out” or something like that; I’m not sure
Lol. I just recently bought a reordered again. I have played several other instruments in the mean time and decided to play again. I must say....I still hate the thing but now I play better.
For me 3rd grade, and we had different “levels” so the first day everyone played hot cross buns, but the next day there were 20 8 year olds playing 20 completely different songs, desperately trying to block out everyone else so we could learn it and go to the next level 💀
lol I learned that in 4th grade, my music teacher made us pretend there was a baby in the other room so we wouldn't play so loudly, he also said "silence is the best music".
