As a 40k player, I can attest to GW being anti-consumer/anti-player for decades. And knowing they are screwing over retailers so that you have to buy their products direct is pretty much par for the course at this point.
What would be the point of buying models directly if you're not going to have the places to play, like LGS? The players will constantly buy new models and sets during 40k nights. It's ludicrous to screw the stores over when they provide so much to the community.
GW has always been like this. Back in the 90's they were getting UK hobby shops so in debt to them that they were taking over the shops, in the US they tried to force US hobby shops to become exclusively GW stores and not carry any other products. In the US they ran into some regulations that protect against predatory business practices and stopped, though they're customer support sunk from unresponsive to non-existent after that. They're a horrible company run by horrible people and they've always been like that.
Bro, I gave up on buying minis from GW years ago. I joined the dark side and just 3D printer proxies. I play Thousand Son and have found a really cool Aztec themed proxy
Games Workshop was always terrible to deal with in my experience. They demanded too much, gave too little, their product was always late, and mostly sat on my shelves because my players quickly realized while i was trying my best, I could not get them their product faster than ordering online. I closed up shop over 5 years ago, and this was my experience then, I didn’t think it could get worse.
It's exactly the opposite I heard. My store always receives their warhammer products on Thursday so you know when to expect it. And above that the prices are the same everywhere on the continent. Seems pretty fair to me. But yeah if you don't live near uk where all the factories are i can see while it takes a long time
My bro runs a shop, they started with GW but after 2 years of them screwing him with everything he is done. Forced purchases, withholding funds, failing to deliver promised quantities; just awful to work with.
I can confirm this from germany. Our local store got closed. A friend was pretty close with the owner. The reason for closing was "GW Products wont sell as good. Those which would sale, wont be delivered." And I myself am not a army-horder, in fact i only play P&P, not TTRPG - but i have NEVER seen a slanesh-army in this store EVER. ... if they dont want to earn money, so be it. Unfortunatly they still do. And even if i love WH40K, i hope the lesson will come soon.
haha I did this for my first set of astartes a couple years ago, how innocent I was. I'm sat there like 'bruh why isn't the paint sticking??' Now I'm painting my Bootleg Printed Rylanor the PROPER way.
@@marmyeater primers are "a basic layer" of paint with "special components", something like more "glue/pigments" that allow it to stick better to the miniature so the next layers are easier to paint. You can apply them via spray cans; airbrush or with a brush. In plastic miniatures "is not mandatory", it helps, but you can do as that screenshot at 40 secs. It can also affect the final result, since its not the same paint yellow over white/black/grey, since those are the "main 3 primers". In resin miniatures, you MUST first clean the mini with soap and then apply a primer or you WONT BE ABLE to paint at all xDD
That's a sound business plan... Get rid of the places where people meet to play their miniatures and sell directly to people that now have no use for them.
Exactly. Tabletop gaming stores are the lifeblood for tabletop wargames, it’s where people gather to pit their armies against each other, they are the ones who host the championships and tournaments. Cutting them out like this will just encourage people to switch to other wargames so they can actually use their armies at the local game-shops. What’s the point in buying a Warhammer army that Im not allowed use anywhere but a Games Workshop?
Felt like it was a great year for gaming, the good games did great and the bad games got taught a lesson to either make better games or fail. Survival of the fittest in real time.
@@IamrealsuperRand I remember *RAGING* when the servers were struggling, I was soooo "angry" about not being able to play like, 18 hours a day every day for a week. That game, for me at least, single-handedly saved gaming in 2024 and was my go-to until I finally got around to letting BG3 download for a frickin WEEK (My internet blows)
@ that’s awesome man, me and my buddies lived in that game for weeks. BG3 was a huge eye opener for my buddy Mike, I remember trying to show him it when it was in early access like DUDE you have to try this game. Finally got him hooked on launch.
5:19 I know why this is happening, don’t ask me how. It’s all to do with commissions. They deliberately starve local small businesses the product for weeks and months knowing customers will buy directly from games workshop so they don’t give the early rush of sales to smaller businesses. Then they ship out left over stock to the brick and mortar stores at a discount it’s all about profit it’s going to get alot worse since their amazon deal the was more to that than meets the eye.
I used to work at a distributor for 5.11 pants and they did something similar. They'd give better discounts and service from anyone buying direct, so everyone would gravitate away from local sellers. It's a scummy way to do business and it ultimately hurts the overall industry.
It's like they don't understand that this is core to the game. Hobby shops have to exist so that we have places for new players to learn. 40K is a huge investment and the way that I was introduced was by being in a hobby shop and having someone let me play their set. Without that I never would have started.
For me, it was a kid down the street who gave me a bunch of left over parts to build my first squad from. After that I'd buy from GW from time to time though I'd avoid it when ever possible. The manager was real pushy trying to get people to buy subscriptions to some magazine. Same manager ended up firing the only good employee they had because he found out the employee in question had sold me his old catachan army while we were hanging out at a comic shop, we then went across the street to a Jack-in-the-Box where he sold me his old catachan army, 4 platoons, 3 fast attack, 3 elites and a command squad for about 200$. Apparently that was a big no-no as he, according to the manager, should have convinced me to buy the same stuff from GW instead. I guess you're not allowed to sell off your old army to make space for building a new army if you work for GW? Like I can see that being a problem if your on the clock but off the clock at an unrelated property? That's just insane.
@@Princess_Celestia_ That's wild. My local shop had a section where you could buy (and sell!) used models. I haven't been there in 15 years though, I wonder if it's still a thing.
Never underestimate a company’s ability to abandon their long-time supporters in favor of corporate slop. I saw this coming a mile away: once WH became more popular it was just gonna lead to Gamesworkshop abandoning their core base in favor of higher profits and wider reach. Much like other industries, like gaming, this will blow up in their face. I predict by the end of 2025 that GWS will be forced to pull a 180 if they hope of surviving into the future.
Starwars, Star Trek, and Dr. Who were more well known Sci Fi settings than Warhammer 40K, and they completely fell into irrelevance because of DEI nonsense. WTH did GW think would happen by following the same path as those other 3 franchises?
@@Captain-Thievius I *kinda* agree. Discovery, absolutely, that show weaponized all the DEI nonsense (aka Male Bovine Excrement) and actively tried to ram it into every orifice you have, and forget being asked for consent, hence it being less popular than even Enterprise or Voyager among long-time fans. SNW I can't speak much for from a lack of experience, Picard had a few moments where a normal person would roll their eyes, for the most part (excluding season 2) it was just good old fashioned Trek.
I talked to the owners at my own local game store and they say pretty much the same thing, that GW is making it harder and harder to work with them. Most times it seems like GW either “loses” their preorders or shorts them on their order window. Other times they (GW) insists that people go through their online store for preorders.
GW earned this failure. They wouldn’t have the problems they face now if they simply did the following: 1: Sell models at reasonable prices. 2: Accept and embrace 3D Printing. 3: Let fan projects exist. 4: Keep 40K lore consistent.
@@patinho5589 to quote Henry Ford, a company that is only good at making money is a bad company. A company's focus can't just be on making money. That's very short term thinking and eventually it will fall apart. It needs to focus on making a great product. That will ensure it will keep making money in the long run. GW is focused on making money today and not thinking about the money tomorrow. This will cause GW to fall. leadership needs a real shift in how it thinks about itself and customers.
From the lore standpoint, it’s actually been remarkably consistent for the past 30 years. Despite recons, spiteful writers, the Deus Ex Machina known as Belisaurius Cawl, and the (relatively) recent attempt with the Femstodes, they’ve not managed to fuck up what made 40k what it is. Even though there is definitely checkboxing in them, Space Marine 2 and the Secret Level episode capture the essence of what 40k is.
Something to point out, for about 10+ years now GW has wanted indy stories to drop their line so that customers had to go through them exclusively. They priced their product to stores in an aggressively toxic way and most stores didn't make much at all off of the product. Many stores since 2016 on would only order for you, they wouldn't carry the product. This was covered in several yearly sales meetings. I know this because I have seen the slides :)
I don't really understand how given most of my game stores in Australia are discounted by 15-25%. The price differences between the official store and the game stores is astronomical.
That higly depends on the country, here in germany it is not that bad now, for example in netherlands and spain it felt worst then here( I mean u can feel it already with the amount of second brand stores, also what they sell and how big they are... for example in my country there are a few second brand stores and they are moste likely bigger and more vistited then the gw ones)
I've heard similar stories from my FLGS. GW rep unresponsive. They put in requests for orders only to get something totally different or not at all and then being told "too bad". Such a shame. 30+ years of love for this IP and this is where we are.
This is why your loyalty should be to people, not brands. Brands are soulless and hollow, and have no connections. You can be the sole reason they exist, at all today, and if they can push past you for a dollar, they will do it.
Should be to neither. loyalty to ideas and yourself. The former needs no one to define it as it carry's itself and can cycle through an infinite amount. The latter as you are with yourself 24/7 and so you can only really trust yourself entirely, unless you meet someone of such exceptional character (Excluding orators, charismatic wizards and the like.)
Gaming isn't dead, infact the demand are keep rising and we wanted more games to be made including all the merch to collect. The problem are the weirdo on the gaming industries keep making trash nobody wanted and blaming us the consumer for not buying their trash.
Most gamers aren't "right wing" at all. Gaming has always been an anti-establishment culture and the far left in the last 20 years became the establishment and put into the position where they can tell people what they can and can't do and what they can and cannot say. (the true purpose of dei/esg practices) And gamers naturally not interested in all that. They just want good games
In the formulation of the Left, you're a "Far-Right Authoritarian" if you enjoy games featuring themes of brotherhood, masculinity, heroism and defending mankind from encroaching alien hordes.
lol 3 words: Baldur's Gate 3. Every "right winger" has played that game despite it being indeed woke. TL;DR gamers wouldn't care if the politics hadn't affected the quality of video games: which it clearly has.
@fmk9978 The Magical thing with Baldur's Gate 3 was they made a game for everybody. Listened to player feedback beforehand and took criticisms to heart instead of "you don't like it, don't play it" messaging that AAA devs seem to be doing more often 🥲
When they remove the Union Jack we knew the UK has fallen they let fall and hit the ground the amount of disrespect the amount of Brit’s that died for that flag they never take into consideration they say it’s just a “piece of cloth”

It was so sad to finally see a Custodes in video and it was a female ''Custode'' and the blood games story was so dogshit and wild and wanted her to be reckless, idk why they couldn't just have a Custode and sister of silence make a damn baby and make their brand new female only super fighter with the benifits of both. But nahhhh that's too hard, lets retcon more and more
Space Marines can’t reproduce nor are they capable of feeling any kind of sexual attraction when it’s all said and done. Despite all the attempts at recons, they are remarkably consistent with the core lore of 40k. But let’s not beat around the bush. the only reason they’ve been trying to shove a woman into the power armor is because Lefties want to claim it.
I've been into miniature gaming. Those hobby stores are not only stores. They often function as community centers for physical games- gaming. Arranging tournaments, events, painting sessions etc. GW own stores function as this so they should know ....Heck, some of the stores are just a few shelves in a big gaming club. Only function is to contribute to paying rent. These type of games require quite some square meters. ... So in this industry. Pissing of stores, are often directly pissing of gamers.
I blame the original founders of Gamesworkshop for selling out. All this shit could've been avoided if they all stayed on and cared. But no it's a souless corp...
I don't blame them. The ussual patern is. Creator(s) make passion project, gets big, gets well known, have to bring in new people to keep up with demand, new people don't care about passion only profit, kick out or make original creators hate project, old guard leaves and new guard makes project "exceptable for a wider audience". It's how parasites work
And these same people ask why the gamers with money to move the needle on sales listen to youtubers over mainstream narratives. Its because the veil has been lifted, and based(normal) gamers know articles like this Wired one are absolute trash and lies. Great work Endymion
I stopped buying GW products when they screwed over the fan made animation groups. I am still pissed that if the emporer had a tts device is on long term hiatus.
Gw manages to be a walking catastrophe on all angles, treatment of fans, treatment of retailers, treatment of their own ip and lore, they truly deserve to fail as much as I love the setting. But real question is will this come around to bite them or will they continue printing money off those too loyal to the brand ask questions

@@certanmikeyeah I doubt any FLGS in MN in dropping GW anytime soon this is just more anti DEI anti Woke reporting which cool I hate that shit but this dude clearly has an agenda
Friendly Local Gaming Stores (FLGS) have had issues with GW for years. It seemed to me, ever since 5th edition dropped GW wouldn't ship enough stuff to supply either of my FLGS. Its too bad that it's getting worse.
Because the money they get comes with strings attached. “Want to push a new line? Need a cash injection? Ok, but we want you to become gayer. Be gay or no money.”
DEI aside, the tabletop game as a whole has suffered the last 10yrs are so. They feel so freaking greedy. Constantly shoving out my collection to try and force us to buy more like some kind of live-service digital game. And the rules balancing this current edition of 40k has been complete trash fire. I love the warhammer universe, but the company can sit and spin.
The fall of games workshop was/is an inevitability, but its going to be an entertaining mess. The community has always been on a tight leash. It tollerates the corporation like you would tollerate a parasite youve resigned yourself to hosting. Theyre one of the most obediant communities of consumers ive ever seen. Moreso than the remaining blizzard fans. They're already accustomed to bizzare corporate rules and regulations, and tend to tow the line without much backlash. Can the playerbase break away from games workshop without falling apart?
I wish these clowns would stop ruining everything. They have destroyed almost everything I love, please stay away from Warhammer. Games workshop has always been kind of shady but it's still a great hobby.
We saw this with Dungeons and Dragons. The moment they went corporate they start fucking over everyone that made them a successful business. Eventually too much bad faith and bad publicity will tear them down and they only have themselves to blame.
Stores will reject selling Pokémon games like SV too because video games that are broken, ugly, and gameplay-limited never sell. Stores need to make money, and need better stuff to sell with good service.
What do you mean? Scarlet and Violet sold 18 million copies. That's the thing about Pokémon fans: they have no standards whatsoever. The games peaked around the 4-5th gen and despite each game being worse than the last they keep on selling tens of millions. It's so bad that Nintendo, who takes the quality control of their games very serioulsy doesn't even bother with Pokémon because they know they can ship out Pokémon: Shit and Giggles and make a bank. Edit: scratch 18 million, they actually sold 22 million.
@@Xfushion2helps in conjunction that it was funded by an EU DEI loan initiative so it’s development was free IMO Pokémon is the sacrificial limb for that credit It’s just that Pokémon fans indeed do not have any standards to an almost parody degree So they just consumed it making still one the most profitable titles only comparable to gatchas

This is very strange I just opened up a hobby shop. And Games workshop has been calling me non-stop trying to get me to sign on as a client. Now take it that I haven't actually brought any product from them yet so this could just be the sales team trying to get their numbers up by getting as many new clients as possible.
the guy painting an un-primed mini is actually making me sick. He's got the GW mini holder, the GW water pot, paints and brush but NO PRIMER?? get this shit off my screen.
Once GW (and other companies) sell to a store, they have their money at 40-50% MSR. It's up to the store to then sell that product to get repaid and a little earnings. GW itself imposes specific kits and sets to be bought, by direct withdrawal of a bank account, to maintain display standards in shops. (Note: those specific GW shelves) Extra orders stack onto base inventory. It's a nightmare for a hobby store. If something doesn't sell, GW already has the cash, and do not have to care about the store.
Because Space Marine 2 success doesn't equate to actual physical merchandise sales. People abandoned GW products due to the Woke nonsense. You didn't even bother watching the video I guess.
This is just the result of everyone, EVERYONE, who kept buying GW stuff even though GW kept shafting them. If you do not buy figurines straight up from third party printers then they're also part of the problem.
Worked in independent Gamestores between 1996 an 2004. Games Workshop extorted and abused Hobby Stores back then already. It's nothing new. Selling through hobby stores means loosing a few cents that could be theirs if the customer bought his overpriced resin at one of their stores.
mainstream media has basically become pill advertisements for people that (for some reason) love to humble brag about how many pills they are on, interspersed with heavily biased and/or purposefully misleading commentary.
They (woke) wants putting women in video games as a hero or something like that but at the back then they were h4ting Eve Stellar Blade bcz it was "unrealistic", SB represetate a women protagonist in a good way... Im so confused..
This is insane, man. I’d want to get into collecting the models and having someone paint them. But I now think I’ll either buy premade models that people are getting rid of or getting them 3D modeled and then request people to paint them from either Fivver or local hobby shops
GW has always been like this. 30 years ago in the uk they started opening their own stores and opened them in direct competition to partner independent stores that stocked their figures. They used their sales data to know exactly which locations would net the the biggest benefit. No regard to the loyalty to their partners. Seems they are doing the same tactic again
We stopped importing their stuff years ago... GW has a bad habit of NOT making deliveries on time... How can people paint and play without figs?? We love WH40K but we've always hated GW... We buy chinese knockoffs now, 3d print some, copy codex and rulebook
My son got into these when he was 15 going on 16 and a bunch of the hobby shops where I live will no longer carry them anymore because they don't want the risk because they see the crashing franchise plus so many of those game shop owners love the games that they sell and they're pissed off at the company I don't blame them. Also it took almost 2 months for my son to receive his starter pack... in th3 USA.
I don’t usually comment, but I’ve been watching your videos more and more recently, Endymion. I, too, am sick and tired of identity politics / ideologies in modern video games. I want to play video games to enjoy myself, to be immersed, not to be pandered and preached to. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to anyone that reads this
Games Workshop has been an evil, greedy, and completely commercial minded company since the early 1990s. The last of the original good employees that worked there left about that time, and for those same reasons. Quality in the products GW produced suffered all those years up to the present day due to those same reasons.
I run a hobby store full time and the margins are so unbelievably small and I commend these actions. From my perspective, and other stores I know personally they have the same sentiment ... manufacturers, distributors/distribution networks, and or the people that work for these companies are insufferable to deal with. I'll save you the infinite drawn out stories, but these entities know they have the upper hand since I am a "small" store, that I only have a couple of outlets, if not the ONLY outlet, to purchase said product... depending on the product. They use this and know this and totally exploit it at every turn, and hey, it's just business, but it doesn't mean its not absolutely scummy as hell.... A lot of it has to do with "money flows the path of least resistance" and a lot of these property owners/manufacturers want to do one of 2 things... 1) Sell directly to the consumer themselves. 2) Sell to big box stores in volume for ease and convenience. Support local business if you enjoy what they have to offer... you have no idea how hard these people work to provide items with very little in terms of revenue earned. Most are like myself and do it for the love of the hobby.
I have talked to my local gaming stores, and they have said the same. They said Games Workshop is non functional from a shops point of view. It is exactly like they want to sell directly to consumer only.

3D printers go BRRRRR. I just try to be used models whenever I can. LAs totally awesome is great for paint stripping.
120 bucks for a kill team. My local shop doesn’t do tournaments or weekly plays for brands they don’t carry. It’s just greed.

@ that’s awesome man, me and my buddies lived in that game for weeks. BG3 was a huge eye opener for my buddy Mike, I remember trying to show him it when it was in early access like DUDE you have to try this game. Finally got him hooked on launch.
Like every year for years now, we basically only got enough good games to count on one hand
Business's offering better service and discount to ensure customers come to them rather than other businesses?? That's basic capitalism....
There will be less reach now for the 40k table top game. Hobby shops basically gave them free exposure.
That and they do not understand their audience, it's like Budlight all over again
And much like Lucas Film, they will kill it out of spite
Only Valve for for gamer now..
Except DEI lower profits and narrow reach...
Game Retailers cannot keep up GW's business practices so they drop GW.
GW calls them "bigots".
But if they were truthful, they'd call themselves bigots.
this is a good example of capitalism vs corporatism.
I talked to the owners at my own local game store and they say pretty much the same thing, that GW is making it harder and harder to work with them. Most times it seems like GW either “loses” their preorders or shorts them on their order window. Other times they (GW) insists that people go through their online store for preorders.
My father owned a hobby shop back in the 90s. He stopped ordering from GW due to their exorbitant order minimums and the way reps would talk to him.
GW earned this failure. They wouldn’t have the problems they face now if they simply did the following:
1: Sell models at reasonable prices.
2: Accept and embrace 3D Printing.
3: Let fan projects exist.
4: Keep 40K lore consistent.
What problems do they face now? Record high share prices?
@@patinho5589 doin tricks on it 😂
@@patinho5589 to quote Henry Ford, a company that is only good at making money is a bad company.
For Kitten.

Games workshop will not be missed
Games Workshop being boycotted is ironic, considering that they're now becoming the tabletop Amazon

I've been into miniature gaming. Those hobby stores are not only stores. They often function as community centers for physical games- gaming. Arranging tournaments, events, painting sessions etc. GW own stores function as this so they should know
....Heck, some of the stores are just a few shelves in a big gaming club. Only function is to contribute to paying rent. These type of games require quite some square meters.

Never give your money to people that hate you.
You have the choice as to what to spend your own money on. Companies aren’t entitled to any of it if you don’t want them to have it.
