Fun fact: Roma has a Fritz X bomb hidden on her when in your port! Look under the searchlight platform between the funnels. you won't be able to see it all, but you can see enough to know what it is
Had to switch out of the Premium port to see it but its definately their!
@@gilestrollston2262 try a port with good lighting. any of the bright daytime ports are good, but I have found that the HSF port is the best
@@gilestrollston2262 You can view the model (with better control)if you search for "Roma" on Sketchfab
Well, seeing as our Gnome Overseer has noticed me, I should get to sleep so I am ready for the night shift in the Salt Mines
Slight correction when you fiddle a bit with the Camera you can see it completely :)
My great uncle server on the Roma. He survived the sinking and made all the way back from Spain to northern Italy on foot where he joined the Italian resistance. Crazy man he was.
He sounds like he lived quite the storied life.
@@123TheLancer Yeah, he moved to Argentina after the war :) That will give anybody some stories.
WOW! My grandpa served on the USS Mount Mickenley in Vietnam, but he had to go ashore at Da Nang for seasickness about twice.
@@adam6620 Quite the adventure.
*ITALIAN HAND GESTURE INTENSIFIES*
Yes
Funnily enough, the Littorios apparently didn't actually shoot HE shells. What is used in-game as the HE shell is actually a lower-penetration AP shell that (at 20km range) had about half the penetrating power of the in-game AP shells. The high-pen shells were for use against battleships, while the low-pen shells were for killing anything smaller. Kind of a missed opportunity for WG, seeing as this could have made Roma really stand out.
Pretty much all ships used based fused shells to shit on weakly armored stuff. Battle shop he normally was good enough to deal with cruisers and the like so the Italian shells are some what unique but other nations had similar ideas.
This is true, but this is a great deal of difference between a Base-Fused HE round, and the shell he is describing above, which is an SAP shell.
@@phoenixjz4782 10 months later, the italian cruiser line is introduced, and they all have SAP
Also funny, is that they didn't use HE because the "fuse was too sensitive" according to the navy. They had 381mm HE shells designed and produced, that is enough for me to justify implementing them in game
Im from the the future they have added semi AP. which is the closest thing we are going to get to what you were talking about however atm you can only get it on tech tree cruisers so roma doesn't get it
Actually Jingles, at 10:42 he sinks the Icarus. Jingles?
*shotgun pump sounds*
BOOM!
Don't worry, He can't aim with a gamepad.
Ikaros?
Matthew Martin BY ZEUS THAT MONSTER
"Roma is more likely to score a citadel if shot at the rear of a retreating ship."
Well duh. Italians greatest opponent in Mediterranean was France so of course they designed their fleet to combat it!
If I recall correctly, the Regia Marina's entire strategy was to count on the French Navy's lack of aggressiveness. But since France got beaten so quickly, they instead got matched with the incredibly Aggressive Royal Navy, with predictable results.
actually Richeleu has the same overpen guns
@@Alvaro89Rus I was speaking about doctrine. The French Navy overall was far more subdued than the Royal Navy, so the Regia Marina designed their strategies and tactics accordingly. It doesnt help that while Italy's ship designs are actually good, their quality controls were godawful, and of course, no radar.
The Royal Navy wasn't that much more aggressive.
Idk which is less funny, you mocking the deaths of thousands of soldiers trying to defend their homes or how unoriginal your joke was
"Increased his damage count by 16,000."
Or, you know, 6,000. But who's counting, anyways, right Jingles?
"First penetration of the game" - like.. 7 penetrations later but.. ya know... It's Jingles.
Savage
Oh, the salt mine will be fully staffed tonight.
Was about to say that
@Savage Who said you ever will be free to go?
Roma, what a beatiful looking ship! The italian in me really wants to correct the title in: "Roma Vittoriosa", as we are talking about a feminine, but i already hear the gun clicking, Jingles? Oh well, goodbye.
I was gonna comment. Glad that I'm not the only one who caught on to Jingles being old and cra - Oh hi, great gnome overlord of the salt mines. Whats that? Double shifts for a month? Yes gnome overlord. Of course gnome overlord. Right away gnome overlord!
E bella !
Actually _war_ ships in Italian are male, while civilian ships are female. Yeah, even with same identical name they change gender according to their purpose ;) So, battleship Roma is "Il Roma" (male) while the transatlantic Roma is "La Roma" (female, like the soccer team!). So "Roma vittorioso" ("Triumpant Rome") is rightfully a male name + adjective. Well done, Jingles :D (even I hate how you pronounce "Libeccio" :P) There are lots of resources about this (in Italian, sorry for you English people) like www.portaledifesa.it/forum/printthread.php?tid=885 (google is your friend about the topic).
Technically speaking, for ships of the era of the Kingdom it also depends on how you refer to them. With their names alone you use the male article. However, in the era Roma was active, if you refer to them with the prefix RN (Regia Nave), than it becomes feminine and you must use female articles with them (ex, La RN Vittorio Veneto vs Il Vittorio Veneto).
As if that wasn't enough, for many smaller types of ships, such as cruisers and destroyers, often they would be referred to by their type, rather than just 'ship', and the article would change as well - so a destroyer might use RCT (Regio Cacciatorpediniere) and use the male article for the prefix. Because of this, the same ship could be Il Folgore, la RN Folgore, or il RCT Folgore!
@@marioshobbyhq I hope I don't sound disrespectful if I say that this makes zero sense to me. When did it come about?
As Italians, we go through all the trouble of using different genders even for objects, something English-speaking people don't have to put up with, so we might as well enforce the rules. Using the female article for a "transatlantico" and the male one for a "corazzata" is lunacy, and not that I care all that much, but the only possible reasoning behind it is a sexist one: war is for men, so we're going to refer to our warships as males.
Thing is, the British didn't have too much trouble smacking us in the face at, say, Cape Matapan, with female ships! :D
ACTUALLY JINGLES->. The first ever warship sunk by a guided bomb was HMS Egret, sunk in the Bay of Biscay by the Fritz X shortly before Roma’s final days
Pretty sure he meant battleship, not warship in general.
I kept wanting to scream "Then switch to HE"
You and me both. Driving me completely insane
Yes; can anyone please explain why they didn't even try?
Jingles.
I always enjoy the historical context you supply along with the battle footage..
Thank you.
Jingles, you didn't realize this battle was on Two Brothers, and the ship was Roma. You know, Romulus and Remus? Two brothers who founded Rome?
Great video jingles, I absolutely love these videos where you give us some history on the ship as you're showing it's simulated capabilities. I'm not a big gamer anymore, but I love history and I love how you intertwine the two. Please keep up making more great videos like this! I subbed a while ago for these kind of videos!
The original Regia Marina instructions for the use of the 381/50 guns advised to use the CAP shells only on battleships, and the SAP (the 381/50 didn't have HE shells) on all the others. The 381/50 SAP shells had roughly double the explosive content and half the penetration of the CAP, so was perfect for heavy cruisers and good enough for light cruisers, but tended to overpenetrate on destroyers (as it historically did on the Kingston).
The littorio class was so good armored that the fritz X, a bomb meant to pass trough a ship to create a hole, was stopped after 4 bridges, unfortunately just aside the ammo storage of the 2nd turret
Your background on the ships is my favourite part of your vids, and I really appreciate you sharing that knowledge with everyone. Your recounting of the Regia Marina during WWII made me think...
I always laugh about how the Regia Marina almost seems to have bought into Mussolini’s claims of the Mediterranean being ‘Mere Nostrum’ and thinking that naval bombers launched from land bases were more than sufficient compared to the potential of aircraft carriers lol
In fairness Italy was well placed to cover most of the Med from the air, so carriers were not as important for them. And in the 1930s when these ships were laid down everyone still thought battleships were the most important warships. So it made sense for Italy to prioritise battleships.
Italy did build 2 aircraft carriers during the war. And considering what happened to Force Z which got obliterated by land based bombers from Saigon this thinking wasn't that weird for its time period. Of course major flaws include the internal rivalries that fascists like to encourage leading to really bad communication between naval and air forces, and even if they had carriers they still would have had the same fuel problems.
And Italian naval strategy mainly focussed on countering French naval ambitions and wasn't prepared to face Great Britain.
This is assuming that Italy had the finances to construct an aircraft carrier fleet, which it certainly did not. She barely had enough to build a credible surface fleet navy. The ships she did manage to lay down were excellent at meeting the basic requirements, but lacked some of the systems improvements that would make them as effective as the British or American ships. Also, the Italian fleet lacked much of the supporting infrastructure so support large fleets...particularly naval aviation based fleets.
Building a world class navy is expensive. Italy had a smaller source of revenue than France or Germany...neither of whom built substantial naval forces either. Only the US (largest resource base in the world), the UK (island nation that spent more money on ships than armies), and Japan (another island nation in the midst of spending nearly 50% of her government spending on an arms race) built significant naval fleets including the backing infrastructure to support them. Of those three, only the US was able to build a large, well supported fleet with all the bells, whistles, and gadgets.
What I was referring to specifically was the Battle of Calabria where the Regia Marina wasn’t able to be supported by the Regia Aeronautica until the battle moved to within range of the land based naval bombers/maritime patrol aeroplanes. Whilst I am aware that the battle was arguably indecisive and that the Royal Navy carrier-based aircraft were, err... let’s say, ‘less than decisive’... One can wonder what might have happened had the Regia Marina had access to air support *during* the battle.
The Italians might have had much of the Mediterranean covered, they did not have as much covered as they thought they did, and nowhere near as much as they might have had had they developed a carrier programme.
Mare Nostrum not mere. WTF is mere? 🤣
Hey.... You forgot to include the "Kraken unleashed"-videopart! Feel bad man...

"She was launched in '42 and sunk in '43." Still better than Bismarck.
Because she never fought in active combat what a stupid comment
At least Roma lasted 15 months in commision than days of Bismarck
Guys, relax and take a joke already.
@@adammullarkey4996 I fully know that you are joking it's fairly obvious but Roma did last longer than Bismarck and that's a fact.
@@KatyushaLauncher I know, I wasn't talking to you.
I love having the background and history to these boats.
Now we all just gonna ignore the rear turret going through the superstructure at 15:44 ?
@Savage Now I would ignore that if the same thing didn't happen to me once in a game. There is a reason I pointed it out.
Replay bug. Turret shot while rotating.
Oh no, I've seen this happen before, particular with the Atago. I've seen the third turret literally cut THROUGH the second turret and not give a damn and it will do it on its own free will. I've seen my 457mm conqueror turret do this at one point and its mindboggling when it happens. @_@
@@BruhPK it does happen, but in this case it was just a replay bug as you can see him shoot all 3 turrets, and all 9 shells go to the target.
The bug does exist in game and ive also had it happen, but thats not what it was here.
Actually Jingles the Class was named Littorio, Vittorio Veneto was the second Ship in the Class
They were laid down at the same time, so either is a valid name for the class.
*Shotgun Pump Sound*
@@davidmoore1253 It has always been classified as the Littorio Class in Italy

I've only got her two days ago, and what a ship. Those 15-inch shells slice into citadels of angled enemy cruisers like a hot knife through butter. She has weak AA, but she makes up for it with her stealth, and maneuverability.
*Comes back from another shitty day at school, starts the computer ,sees jingles has posted a new WoW video*
-Aaah i fell better now.
Love the history lessons in these. thanks.
I have been waiting for a Roma replay for so long. I love that ship; in WoWS she's ridiculously overpowered if played well.
Roma is particularly strong fighting other battleships at close range. Her turrets rotates crazy fast, for BB standards of course.
0:43 thanks jingle for the confirmation i was having doubts as they've taken their time :))
Wake up. Get cup of coffee. Jingles is up. This is good.
Peacefully watching a historical ship participating in a game full of over-pen is kinda a pleasure, especailly when the host is very calm.
13:10 Jingles "Poor Man's Kraken" That's why we all love him
the 5 overpen salvo against that new orleans' center made me shiver
So happy to hear you say 'New Orleaaaaaans'. My American friends always corrected me saying it's supposed to be pronounced 'New Ohhhrlins'. Good to see that native english speakers don't all get it either ;)
I was in a Richelieu and was plagued by a Roma for the whole match. Finally was able to catch it broadside and racked up some citadels on him and sink him, but I think he did over 50K damage to me. Now I wince every time I see a Roma.
Thank god a video that doesn't spoil a game I'm planning to buy
Its that pizza throwing bloody ship gamer again
passing a ship side to side with a shell should be instakill
15:40
Considering the Chapayev was about 2.8KM away and Libeccio spotted those torps aroundabout halfway between them, He literally saw those torps coming just shy of a mile away.
Those are some conspicuously fortunate gaps in the torp spreads
Uhm jingles
He's not doing any damage to the NO because he is missing, not because the shells have high velocity. I mean roma has only 30m/s(Roma has 850m/s shell speed not 910) over a tirpitz and bismarck. Are you telling me those two have trouble dealing damage to cruisers? No they don't. Roma here is missing the citadel, middle of the ship. Of course if you hit stern you are going to overpen, it's not because of high AP speed. Besides, high AP speed means better chance at underwater penetration. Which means you are more likely to citadel cruisers than others.
Example: 15:24 He's firing too high on a ship that is 3km away with the fastest AP shells a tier 8 can get
Yep
Savage it always happens, the game is fucking trash
@Savage When at very close ranges like that I often aim a few pixels below the water line. Hasn't failed me yet with 4k games and counting.
@Savage As a DD main that is what I hope for. Lol
I agree the point of aim is throwing things off in this video, the fact of the matter is Roma's AP does overpenetrate considerably more often than other AP - her AP not only travels faster, but she also has considerably more penetration due to heavier shells (German 380mm APC is only 90% of the mass of Italian 381mm APC). Penetration factors in heavily into how much a shell will slow down when penetrating armor, and in general this causes Roma's AP to slow down less than Bismarck's will, for example. Thus, targets that Bismarck is not likely to overpenetate, Roma still will.
Thanks
dunno, I was shooting at a broadsiding Exeter at point blank range in my Colorado today, and 3 broadsides yielded nothing but overpens.
I find it kinda funny jingles said the fubuki had Icarus problems bc while he was fighting a literal Icarus you could interpret it as “he got burned like Icarus for flying too close to the sun (trying to get the glory of wiping a battleship with torpedoes)
* Roma Vittoriosa. Since Both Roma and ships in general are considered female words.
Missed the Jingles history lessons
Just by watching ur vids, Jingles, i can see how drastically the skilll of average potato has dropped down
well played
*He Ain't Stupid* -ahahaha... #Jingles you gave me a laugh on that one. :D
My father was at serlerno he was with the royal signal core not only did some officers decide to raise the men's moral by telling them that Italy had capitulated while still in transit they also left out the large number of German forces still in Italy and that they were very likely to be waiting for them as where they were landling was about the only place they could land
The way some of theses battles play out baffle me. How he wasn’t focus fired and burned to the ground shows the quality of the other team.
No kraken unleashed clip 2 weeks in the salt mine with you jingles
when i saw the bismarck on libeccio's team go down the middle, i thought 'haha this will be good' - then i saw the two destroyers come in from his port flank. bye bye bbabby, hope all the camping was worth it! loool xD
The LITTORIO class (not Vittorio Veneto) was designed to counter the French Dunkerque class, itself a counter to the German Pocket Battleships of the Deutschland class.
As such, it shouldn't be surprising they perform better in Battleship-on-battleship action
I like the fact that jingles doesnt try to make you hit like or subscribe
I have Roma and I quite like it.
10:10 Sees DD around the corner, knows torpedoes are coming ... hits Repair.
Here for the history lessons rather more than the action.
ok so i have a question...
imagine having a 6.6 sec reload and you have AP equipped right...
and you want to switch to HE does it still take 6.6 seconds to reload HE form AP or does it take longer….cuz i have a feeling that it does take longer but i wanna ask some other people….
15:43 nice roma´s gun glitch trough the superstructure... happens too often on that ship
did anyone else notice at 15:43 the rear turret started to phase through the ship?
can someone tell me why the rear turret is turning 360degrees all of a sudden?
take a look at 15:40 and following:
he shoots it at the Chapayev and then it magically turns through the superstructure, then realizes its on the wrong side and starts turning for the left again??
When Jingles says "even more" he sounds a hell of a lot like Jeremy Clarkson lol
Overpens and awful dispersion = pure frustration
Salt Mines Squad reporting to duty!
We definitely need those Italian cruisers and battleships. There are some absolute beauties in there. And WG don't need to make up too many fantasy/paper ships to fill the tech trees.
I'm pretty sure the Italian battleships were designed to fight other battleships, not a nation's cruisers.
I would say the captain is a virtual virtuoso of the Vittoriosa but I got tongue tied
the bow of the Roma has the same color scheme as a tacky pizzeria (and I love it).
Jingles you slurred scheduled
The Roma was giving the highest possible military honor for the Italy.....a nice pasta dinner on the river tiber
10:10 very brave and/or stupid of him to use that Damage Control when he knew 9 torpedos were incoming.... I guess it doesnt hurt to be confident in your torpedobeating skills
What was the second medal he got in the score board, i’v never seen it and I am also checking the achievements section right now and I don’t see it
Would this be a ship to pick up in the future after I get my kronshtadt since I'll be getting the free XP for that???
Over 1000 views in 20 mins?, doing well jingles
the biggest problem italy had during the war was the high command structure.
the naval command in particular was just so up its own ass it refused to use radar despite what some of their own specialist and captains said.
Hey, Jingles! You forgot the Kraken clip!
Weird glitch with that rear turret when shooting at the Chepayev. If you look closely at the 15:45 mark, you can see it clipping through the superstructure rather than locking in position to shoot the cruiser.
Where is the next episode of AC Odessey at? I really enjoy watching you attempting to play that.

The fritz x is very powerful

Hey jingles, what do you think of the new tier 9 French bb being in the premium shop?
Anyone else saw that the Fubuki's name was Anchovy_Anzio for this Italian themed video!
Honestly my problem with the Roma's shells is their dispersion. Playing it earlier tonight, fired at a Lyon that was broadside at around 7-9km and they all either went high or low with only a couple actually hitting the ship. As for the over penetrations, that's a problem I have had with battleships in general since they fucked with everyone's citadel.
Actually Jingles, the Fritz X wasn't a missile, it was a remote controlled gliding bomb.
What?....oh...ok.....bring the dynamite back in the salt mine.....yes my overlord.
So many Italian memes incoming
Actually Jingles the Vittorio Veneto, whilst lacking radar, also lacked AA armament. Just look at what happened to Roma in 1943.
11:55 full of Italians this game
Anchovy, what are you doing here?
"as these shells travel the entire length of the ship before exploding somewhere dangerous near the middle" … eh... otherwise, good work!!
I wasn't aware of this AP issue in the Roma. But this video makes it look like you would be better of firing HE on cruisers in this ship. Anyone doing this?
wow 5 mins since upload 27 comments im slow :(

I faceplam everytime someone fires a wide spread of torpedoes...
The guns on these ships basically tore their rifling out completely every time they fired :^) Seriously, the barrel life of these guns was fucking horrendous. Like they'd have to get replaced twice as quick as some other nations

Sometimes in Italy, the pizzawagon trolls u!
Overpenetration does more damage than a miss
