I actually think the worldbuilding elements have been the best part of this show so far. It's so refreshing to see a different aspect of the galaxy and not just tatoinne for the millionth time. It's completely logical that a wealthy suburban planet filled with beutocrats would exist in the star wars galaxy and its great to explore it.

@@vetarlittorf1807 Honestly I think that was on purpose. It feels jarring seeing such an earth-like setting in Star Wars. It foreshadows that something’s off about this planet. @Eclipse-mf6hc Yeah, I get what they were going for, I just don't think it works. They try to convey that the planet is completely isolated from the rest of the galaxy to the point where they don't know what stars are, yet they know what Jedi are and they use Star Wars droids, speeder bikes and everything. In fact, the setting is not just Earth-like, it's very specifically American.
I do wonder somewhat if it is an actual planet at all... If space station that would explain why the droid cannot calculate their direct flight path back to an orbit.

I think that Win’s dad is an example of what’s wrong with their society. People are so focused on their trivial jobs that they completely neglect their family/happiness/etc
I absolutely loved it. Even more important is my 9 year old daughter was glued to it. She couldn’t stop laughing at Neel. She’s loving his character. Plays she hasn’t seen all of these different species as young kids really so she’s asking so many questions. We are living this together and that means more to me than anything. Skeleton crew is hitting a home run so far with me and my family.
It's wonderful to hear your daughter was so interested and asked questions. Sharing a love of Star Wars across generations is a great thing. MTFBWY and your daughter.
I honestly didn't really like it... Def not the Goonies... Def not Stranger Things Why didn't Jude Law just escape the jail any time before the kids arrived? hes a Jedi
I like how they do aliens. They seem to have found an affordable way to make slightly "campy" aliens that look like suits or puppets, which does fit Star Wars the best. Aliens have been missing much from Star Wars since the Prequels.
The main thing that failed for so many recent Star Wars projects is what is saving and propelling this show: the characters are interesting, believable, and make the connection with a wider audience on simply wanting adventure. The plot is flowing from the characters like it did for Andor….and that bodes well for the trajectory. I was immersed in the world and I think it’s completely natural for the suburbia stuff to not feel like Star Wars just like Hobbiton does not feel like the rest of Middle Earth. It’s intentional.
Without spoilers, how are the characters interesting, believable, and make a connection to the wider audience vs something like the acolyte which imo is just bad from its concept.
@andreacalvillo353 The characters are not original but I thought they were enjoyable, believable kids. I think broader appeal is likely their hope as I suspect this may be a disappointment to hardcore Jedi fans.
Not to mention it does a lot of world-building within 2 episodes and is linking to the mysterious Old Republic Era which doesn't mention much in canon.
Bad Batch, Obi Wan, Andor, Rebels, Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Ahsoka... They were all very good to me. Even Resistance was ok to me 😅. I just disliked The Acolyte. So in my opinion normally they do good projects for Star Wars 🎉
SM-33 being Smee from Peter Pan, Jude Law pretty much being Jack Sparrow, and hearing the Pirates of the Caribbean whistle in the brig were nice nods in an oddly placed show.
As a 35yr old adult with no children, and missed ALL of the 80's classics-- I had a lot of fun with these first few episodes. The nostalgia it tapped in on more than anything was just being a kid, playing fake ligbtsabers with your friends for example. Im looking forward to the rest, I'd give it a solid 8/10. Curious as to why Disney was as nervous as they were about this one, this was better than a majority of what they've released so far.
They probably initially thought they had a banger with The Acolyte and after the firestorm that show kicked off, they were probably extremely cautious and would've been with anything Star Wars
@@paulderosa3065 You're not half wrong. Reliable leakers have said that The Acolyte was sort of "the" show, everyone talked about it super positively and if it did well there was plans for spin offs and possibly movies (basically another mandoverse). Skeleton Crew on the other hand had a lot of behind the scenes drama, and apparently the crew had a really rough time on set. And it does sound like Lucasfilm was maybe skeptical towards the show or at least how it would perform.
I liked it a lot! Sometimes I feel like recent star wars shows just get bogged down with the environments and you're constantly aware you're on a set. But Skeleton Crew strikes a good balance of not drawing attention so much to the world around and focusing mainly on our characters and their interactions. I think that's why the show ends up feeling easy to watch and not slow the way Ahsoka and Acolyte rubbed me the wrong way.
Ahsoka gets a pass on that from me, because the characters in that show are feeling themselves realy distant to evrything, becuase they all lost, what previously made them who they are. The slow and distant feel the show makes fits with the characters.
how is nobody talking about how great Captain Brutus looks?! Disneys Star Wars really struggles with cool alien designs, but this guy looks amazing and intimidating. great effects and costume design
Considering a lot of people felt Andor didn't feel like Star Wars, only for it to fit in perfectly and be the best show we've gotten, I think there's hope for this show. I'd say the only thing that made it feel too different from Star Wars was the planet they're from. Other than that I think it fits decently enough.
No matter how many Acolytes we get, I'll always keep an open mind to new Star Wars ideas. So far I'm mildly enjoying it. The kids act like kids and theres no cringe messaging. I'm not going to sing it praises to the mountain tops yet, like Mando 1&2 and Andor, but I'll definitely tune in to next week's episode.
I was hoping for a kids adventure show with no agenda and I was pleased. 40 years ago I would have absolutely loved this show. I don't need it to feel like Star Wars. Heck, at this point I'm glad that it didn't feel like Star Wars. Unlike Ashoka and Acolyte, I actually enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to rewatching this with my kids now that I've confirmed that it's actually a kids show.
I'm really enjoying it. The suburb was a little jarring but I can get over that. The kids seem simple and different, motivations make sense. Love the little mentions like Aldanhi and the mystery of their planet has me hooked.
If you can live with mile-high trees on a planet full of giant hairy dogs that carry crossbows, you can live with a planet that has suburbs... In a galaxy with 1000's of worlds, there's probably more than one.
@@emiliob12 True... this is definitely a first for SW... But I did used to wonder if there were any Earth-like planets in SW. I also used to wonder what everyday kids like me did for fun in the SW galaxy... Now I know.
@@JoeVulgamoreAuthor that’s good it worked for you. For me I just think it didn’t work. The show could’ve been just a regular sci-fi. It didn’t really need Star Wars it just has a Star Wars setting.
I think At Attin is a lost High Republic colony world. The costumes, architecture and aesthetic seems to resemble the High Republic. The reference to the Republic's Great Work was a give away clue. Have watched the first episode and am invested in the four children.
So far…only Rogue One, Andor and the first two seasons of Mando have been better as far as Disney Star Wars. I mean…that’s not an all world list or anything…but they’re all decent to solid. If this ends up being decent to solid…I’ll take it.
agreed, although i didn't hate ahsoka, nor mando season 3 (still not as good). oh and i really liked the bad batch. so far im enjoying the show and im surprised. it seemed to kiddish to me at first but it's cute, easy to watch. hopefully disney doesn't screw it up.
@@djsugarbear6715 I honestly haven’t. I didn’t really care for those few episodes with them at the end of The Clone Wars. I have heard good things though…I may eventually check it out.
It's on the nose with nostalgia to the point of comedy, but I'm liking it. Getting a Truman show side vibe with their planet. Really entertaining so far.
It was fine I think. My big problem is that the twist of who Jod really is is just painfully obvious. Like... he's the pirate captain right? The one who gets mutinied at the start. And now he wants to use the kids to get to At Attin. Speaking of At Attin. That planet is the most intriguing aspect to me so far. The use of the term "Great Works" immediately made me think this was somehow connected to the High Republic and Charles Soule even hinted as much on his Bluesky account. Maybe the leadership of the time sealed the planet away to avoid Nihil occupation and just decided to remain isolationist? That would be pretty cool if that's what happened.
My first thought was the barrier was put up after the Great Hyperspace Disaster to protect from something like that happening, that it could deflect space debris or whatever. But then it seems like the ship was able to fly right through it; almost like it's a sort of 'masking device' that makes the planet look like something else to those on the outside. Why they'd want to hide from the rest of the galaxy is the real question.
@@sparkycjs I mean, you can classify it as a reveal, but I don't consider it a "twist" because that implies something was hidden or it was meant to be a surprise. Which was not what it felt like. They introduced the character in the start with a mask, then later you go "oh that's the dude from the start". It's not meant to shock the audience.
I really enjoyed the fact there were so many aliens. It's definitely for children, which is actually a relief, they seem to be concentrating on a story. And the principles can act realistically
I'm assuming the "barrier" is a cloaking field of some kind. Remember the kids were taken aback when they saw stars for the first time so they're pretty closed off.
Hi Thor. I was on the fence about watching it. I wanted to comment on your video as a fan of SW and father of 2 boys. I have tried to get them to watch shows with me to no avail. Interestingly enough, both of them joined me for two evenings to watch each episode. Both times I didn't even try to get them to watch and interestingly enough, both of them came at their own will and LOVED the show. I hope it turns out to be a good show. I agree on all your points. Funny enough the kids loved all those things that both you and I didn't like, like the suburbia feel and all that.
Sounds like I enjoyed this a lot more than you did, Thor! I loved it, and I was especially impressed by the craftsmanship involved. There are so many special effects and subtle camera tricks going on, it feels like a labor of love and not just another show for Disney+. Also, there's an interesting array of characters in the kids. Neel is my favorite, even if Wim is the one that drives the plot. I especially loved their conversation in episode 2, where Wim is trying to convince Neel (and himself) how cool it is to be on an adventure in a pirate ship, but Neel points out that it's dirty and smelly and filled with dead bodies. I'd really like to see more of their dynamic.
I caught myself smiling several times throughout It’s safe - Im ok with safe whenever I smiled when watching the acolyte, I was laughing at something ridiculous
Agreed - and I'd also add that in addition to safe, it's (gasp) competently made. I understand what each character is doing in the story. It looks nice visually. I could point out a few plot holes, but at least they're not glaring ones - and they might be explained in later episodes. In other words, it's good!
I am an adult, 35yr+, and I actually really liked these first two episodes. They definitely had a Spielberg-ian feel to them. I have by far hated most of the Star Wars put out under the Kennedy regime, minus The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, I am a Dave Filoni fan after all, but this show has caught and kept my attention so far. Maybe if this show does well Kennedy will consider it a win and actually leave Lucasfilm on what she considers a high note, fingers crossed.
I’m actually really happy with these episodes it was nice to see so many different aliens in the second episode. I’m not let down and I’m having a good time.
Everything was all Earth-y until an alien was walking an alien beast, there are Droid security officers and teachers, the vehicles don't touch the ground, and there's a huge barrier that encircles the entire planet that makes the planet, essentially, invisible, and not charted. This show started great. We can only hope that it holds the course and sticks the landing.
Yeah, this is not Star Wars. I wish it was its own thing. But of course, Disney wanted to be Disney and stamp on the SW brand. As a little kid, I grew up watching those same classics: The Goonies, Explorers, Captain EO, ET, Flight of the Navigator, The Sandlot, The Never-Ending Story, Adventures in Babysitting, The Wizard, etc. The difference between those classics was they stood on their own, while this one is just trying to leverage the Star Wars brand.
Good start so far. Even for a "kids" show. That boarding action was pretty awesome. And the Shistivan pirate was a nice touch. Agree that the planet the kids are from is weirdly too Earth like, but it's not that big a deal to me since i assume most of the show isn't gonna happen there and they sort of cancel it out with the pirate base being VERY Star Wars lol So far I'm looking forward to the rest. Let's see how it goes lol
I've been describing this series to my folks as "Goonies in Star Wars." When watching it, I both agreed that At Attin looked a little too suburban for Star Wars and recognized my younger self in the characters. I was that kid who had pretend lightsaber fights and read a lot of history and fantasy books. I also remember the animosity between boys and girls, especially the kind of girl who thinks she's so smart and can talk her way out of any situation. This show brought me back to childhood. I also picked up on the Pirates of the Caribbean vibes in Episode 2.
@@joshuawells835 I think it’s numerous that we complain about the same locations for all these projects but when we get a fresh take on what an isolated planet might look like “it’s not Star Wars enough” lol
I thought it was ok. Certainly better than the The Acolyte because it's not an intentional insult to fans. You could even argue that this is a love letter to fans of the 1980s kids film genre, many of whom fit the age demographic of fans who grew up on Star Wars. That being said, while they successfully capture the genre, I don't know if it achieves the essence of Star Wars yet. I found the suspension of disbelief too great with the circumstances surrounding the crashed ship. The world-building is interesting with how they're presenting At Attin and the "great barrier." Did anyone else get The Village vibes?
SW has always had contrivances. The important thing is 'does it have a soul?' For me, this show so far has a soul. It has the sense of naivety and purity of the old SW films. I've no idea why Thor sounds so depressed about it. He was very excited about Ahsoka which was depression show from the very first episode.
I enjoyed it, the first episode was meh in the beginning but you have to get the feel for the characters so I'll give it some slack there. But over all it wasnt bad, has a good mystery and actually made me want to watch the next episode
My only significant complaint so far is the design for Neel's species. 🐘 I hate that we can rarely see the mouths of that species. When Neels speaks, he often looks like some kind of bizarre bobble head. I grew up in the prime Jim Henson era of the 80s and 90s, so I've seen all kinds of puppeteering evolve over the decades. Still, the image of Neel's natural humanoid body and head movements without some kind of mouth on screen keeps throwing me off. The hammerhead species has its mouth on the sides of the head, but they speak that awkward grunting language. Thus, watching them "talk" isn't weird to my sight. Most droids that can speak don't have moving jaws, but there is some kind of "mouth" on the fronts of their heads. Thus, watching them "talk" isn't weird to my sight. However, the way Neel's mouth is almost always blocked by his trunk or cheeks gives me uncanny valley vibes.
In Acolyte I responded with ‘Jedi and Sith wouldn’t do that’. Mando worked for me because there were no rules on what he could or couldn’t do, being a new character. I’m hoping for the same freedom with Skeleton Crew. I don’t know them so they don’t have to behave a certain way yet. Doesn’t feel like Star Wars yet, I hope it all comes together with memorable stories.
The vfx were really well done, they did have an extra year to work on it! Also I love all the aliens and practical effects, makes it all feel more lived-in.
@NZealand I think he right had to many things start good just to fall of a cliff I will wait till it done and if my friends and the UA-cam reviewers that I find most similar to my tastes give it good reviews I will watch you can give them a free pass any more the burn that bridge
I thought it was a great start. I liked the casting for all four of the kids. I thought the production and story were solid. I liked the feel of it. I am looking forward to more. The music score had a few good supporting moments but there were some other times where it was clear to me it was no John Williams behind it all. The endings of each show were well done. "Can you keep a secret?" Honestly, I am just happy that it feels like a well made show again after cringing my way through the Acolyte.
The "Great Work" line was a strong early clue about the mystery. Their planet has likely been cut off / hidden from the rest of the galaxy since the High Republic when Chancellor Lina Soh started her Great Works. Also, protect Neel at all costs!
To quote Djago Unchained: You had my curiosity, now you have my attention. Pretty obvious who Captain Silvo is but I don't mind. The bigger mystery is abviously what At Attin is all about.
49yo man here, and It actually made me feel like I was back in the 80's watching something like Goonies. So yeah, Goonies in Space, is totally accurate. Looking forwards to watching the rest of the series. No forced social or political commentary here, just pure dreaming what could be.
I used to set an alarm for 4am to watch new SW episodes. Took me two days to say fine I’ll watch it. However, I did like these episodes. Suburbs in SW is kinda weird though
I was at the premiere and got to see Episode 3. It really picks up. I personally think its a breath of fresh air and its getting more star warsy with each episode
I thought of “the Giver” when you mentioned the test placement. I don’t know why, just the classroom design and the concept clicked for me right away. I haven’t watched a live action Star Wars show on release since Mando season 2, but you might have convinced me to try again. I know you were super thrilled about it but you actually found parts of the story that were enjoyable and that’s a first in what feels like a while. (I don’t mean to make you sound like a Debby downer, you just tell it how it is and how I feel like I usually see it and I take your opinions in a good regard)
I think it’s fun. And I do think it lives inside the Star Wars universe. It’s a palate cleanser for that Acolyte atrocity. Thor, don’t let your Star Wars traditionalism prevent you from embracing shows like this.
This is rare because my opinions usually fall into line with Thor’s but I actually really enjoyed the first episode. I felt a familiarity that made it feel like real Star Wars to me, this might have been the tone of the opening scene, which immediately had me thinking of A New Hope, or it might have been the familiar aliens in the classroom. My only concern so far is that it somehow feels to move too slowly and too quickly at the same time, which is how Ahsoka felt too.
The thing about Star Wars (and Star Trek) is that both franchises are so old, its possible to tell all kinds of 'stories' with them. "Lower Decks" is a comedy (and successful one) set in the Star Trek universe, and this is trying to be a 'Goonies' in the Star Wars universe. The question is if other 'genres' can be done well within another 'genre', and the story is out on this show doing it well (but I have liked what I have seen so far, and yes, even I notices how 'Faschy' the home planet of the kids seemed to be).
I would consider myself a very jaded SW at this point and not a fan of what D+ has done to the franchise but this was fun. Weird in places but really fun. I for one am glad to enjoy something again I have loved for so long. Im curious to why At-Attin is so similar to Earth now as it seems to be a myth to the pirates? Kid actors were great good chemistry, the pirate stuff is very odd out of place and not very SW including the droid. but somehow I could ignore this because again the kids were fun. The pirate captain was onbviously Jod Nawood, they even show him in BTS extras in that costume but you could kinda figure it out with his voice.
Overall I really enjoyed it. Like you said a few things like the pirate hats and the spyglass kinda took me out of it but I am excited to see where it goes.
Best show since Andor, imo. We'll have to wait for the rest of the season but so far this is on par with Mando season 1 but has much better production.
40 with no kids, wife and i both enjoyed the first two episodes pretty well. I get the "Doesn't feel like Star Wars criticism." But i think that works for its story as we find out the planet is cut off from the galaxy. My big gripe so far is the lead boy and girl character as niether comes off particularly likable or endearing. Neel and KB are terrified so far though.
Thor! I watched the scene when they are entering the pirate spaceport multiple times now. In one shot, I swear it’s a ship that is the first prototype for the Falcon. The one that had the Falcons cockpit and the body of a correlian corvette. It appears directly above the kids ship in one of the scenes as they are going to Port. So far, I have watched a bunch of reviews and nobody mentions this. Are you willing to confirm this? 😂
I have honestly really enjoyed the show so far. The planet the kids are from is quite jarring, particularly with the space dog and the feel of the different homes, but I surprisingly did not mind it too much as long as I focused on the parts of the planet that felt more like Star Wars. I personally enjoyed the score, being inspired by Star Wars music with a hint of other 80s movie themes inside to create enjoyable music. The second episode is my favorite so far, and even though it was incredibly short, I felt like it ended at a really good place and I felt like a good amount happened in such a short episode. The plot twist and mystery behind the planet is really intriguing and keeping me into the story, and I am definitely getting invested into this show. It is a genuinely fun show and so far one of the better Star Wars projects to be released in the Disney era. The pirates honestly felt like Star Wars pirates to me, but that is just my opinion, although I did feel like the classic pirate hats on the ship were incredibly out of place. I think the child actors have done an incredible job and bring a lot of personality to their characters, making them all enjoyable in their own right. I am surprised to see you are not enjoying it as much, but I guess I can understand what you mean with some of the issues you have with the show, especially the suburban planet.
I was pleasantly surprised. Interesting so far. It had some weird things, but overall felt Star Warsy enough for me. It has that flavor. It isn’t about the big picture, New Republic vs First Order, Dark side vs Light side stuff, more on the small scale. I’m at least interested in seeing more.
Current theories: 1. Everyone on the planet are descendents of the original pirate crew that crashed there long ago (The planet being a bit Treasure Island and the original captain being the Star Wars universe's Captain Flint who put his treasure there) 2. The planet is somehow the back-up Death Star 3 3. The "treasure" is "peace in a dangerous galaxy" (and probably family and love) 4. It's something disappointing as Disney fumbles the landing.
I found it fun. Well shot and edited; acting was decent. Loads better than the previous SW show that shall remain nameless, but that in and of itself isn’t too hard to accomplish…
So far so good! Admittedly i was a bit impatient for the kids to get into space because i knew that was where it was going but I'm really enjoying it and looking forward to chapter 3. Hopefully it won't be a flashback episode involving witches...
Gotta say Thor, I'm incredibly surprised at how meh you are on episode 1 & 2 of Skeleton Crew. I LOVED this series so far and its the best thing since Andor easily. Speaking as an 80's baby, you can never go wrong with 80's nostalgia and I'm watching the promise of adventure through the eyes of kids that most of us can relate to or knew of. I'm so happy we have a fresh story to enjoy... I mean a SECRET LEGEND PLANET that even the kids don't know is special!? Come on Thor get on board now before its too late lol.
I thought it was okay. I DON'T feel like I'm being TROLLED like I did with The Acolyte, so... that's a plus. I watched Deadpool & Wolverine immediately before watching Skeleton Crew. I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING THAT. 🤣
I went into Skelton crew with expectations so low it could walk under a snakes belly without messing their hair, and I am cautiously impressed. I wasn't reduced to a profanity riddle tirade like cough cough Acolyte, or a mix of bored and stunned like Askoka. Can the series build on the promise, this is Disney star wars a group that has pretty much flushed a money making genre defining franchise down the toilet.
Seeing a suburban life in Star Wars feels extremely odd to me but then again realistically there would be suburbs in canon in Star Wars. Aside from that I love the pirate thing they got going on, the Boba show should have had Boba Fett doing that but as an actual Bounty Hunter.
Your initial thoughts about the show perfectly encapsulate what Disney has done to Star Wars; it’s a post modern film company making current affairs stories, based in a sci-fi /“Star Wars” background.
I think there were actual people who enjoyed it. The quality felt a lot better than a lot of recent shows (not counting the Acolyte because they set the bar so low). At least it feels original and not a reboot or recontextualizing old characters. We’ll see once it’s finished if it was actually good. I would say check it out for yourself. But if it’s not your thing, I totally respect that.
The “Great Work” is literally what the grand projects of the High Republic were called by the supreme chancellor in those novels. I think At Attin has been isolated for like 400 years and is controlled by the droids/AI with all the people thinking they still live under the Old Republic. How it was isolated for so long is the big mystery… deleted like Kamino? Is it really a planet or some kind of grand space station/planetoid designed as a Great Work to be a utopia but taken over and moved around by the droid/AI in charge? Who know and I wanna find out!
I hadn't planned on watching Skeleton Crew, but had subbed back to Disney+ to watch Inside Out 2 (looking at lists of possible Oscar nominations). You really need episodes 1 and 2 to get the story going, but Im hooked now. Even though it feels more oriented towards kids, I'm willing to watch and curious t9o see where the story goes 😊
This was like the goonies, pirates of the carribean, and Harry potter with a salt shaker of star wars. But you know what? It's not horrible. The mcguffin (sp?) Is interesting. Let's go. This is infinitely better than the acolyte. I'll take it.
I enjoyed it. I have no problem with how normal their homeplanet feels. It`s suppost to feel normal for the contrast with the rest of the world they will meet, which feels way more like star wars. I also realy like the pirats/treasure hunt themes. I think we get really little of that this days. Wish we could get more of that even outside of star wars. They are fun.
I think this is the one time that I really disagreed with you Thor because I loved these first 2 episodes, such a refreshing take and absolutely loved it, loving the characters, better than a lot of other Disney Star Wars shows. The world building is great so far and this project seems like it’s giving a lot of nods and appreciation to previous projects and the world itself
The first two episodes, especially the second one were solid and enjoyable. I think a show like this would be so much better received had Disney not been so inconsistent with past projects.
I completely disagree, I think it feels completely like star wars. The opening scene sets the pirate tone, but even the suburban planet still felt star wars enough with the power converters, speeders, jedi references etc. Massive a new hope vibes with Wim wanting more than the life he's told to live by his dad/ others in his planet. Not every star wars planet needs to be tatooine!!

Plays she hasn’t seen all of these different species as young kids really so she’s asking so many questions. We are living this together and that means more to me than anything. Skeleton crew is hitting a home run so far with me and my family.
That’s really good to hear, while adults deserve good Star Wars, so do the kids.
So happy to hear that a new generation may be enchanted by Star Wars the way many of us were growing up!
Same. My daughter loved it.
It's wonderful to hear your daughter was so interested and asked questions. Sharing a love of Star Wars across generations is a great thing.
MTFBWY and your daughter.
I honestly didn't really like it... Def not the Goonies... Def not Stranger Things
Why didn't Jude Law just escape the jail any time before the kids arrived? hes a Jedi
I like how they do aliens. They seem to have found an affordable way to make slightly "campy" aliens that look like suits or puppets, which does fit Star Wars the best. Aliens have been missing much from Star Wars since the Prequels.
Honestly, both episodes put a smile in my face. So, that's a win in my book.
Well said.
Without spoilers, how are the characters interesting, believable, and make a connection to the wider audience vs something like the acolyte which imo is just bad from its concept.
@andreacalvillo353 The characters are not original but I thought they were enjoyable, believable kids. I think broader appeal is likely their hope as I suspect this may be a disappointment to hardcore Jedi fans.
nah andor was terribly overrated
Not to mention it does a lot of world-building within 2 episodes and is linking to the mysterious Old Republic Era which doesn't mention much in canon.
Honestly ... it feels like 20% Star Wars and 80% Treasure Planet mashup ...
And that could work for me, since i loved both. :3
I really enjoyed it! But it's really sad that a "not terrible" SW show is enough to meet my low expectations.
Soooo true.
It's fine, but I'm going to stop watching, not good enough.
It's a 97 audience score!!! It's more than "Not terrible"
I mean its a lot better than terrible. Its actually enjoyable which I can't say the same for the long list of past Disney Star Wars projects
The fact that I had no idea that this even released should be self explanatory.
You mean the fact should speak for itself? That‘s not the same as self-explanatory.
lol SAME
All I got out if this is that you live under a rock.
Wait it came out??
Fact that now I know it came out and still dont care speaks volumes
SM-33 being Smee from Peter Pan, Jude Law pretty much being Jack Sparrow, and hearing the Pirates of the Caribbean whistle in the brig were nice nods in an oddly placed show.
Plus the scene from the ride/movie of them trying to use an animal to get the keys, I appreciated that
Stupid monkey with the keys and the guy with his glass eye losing his head.
Wait, did they actually have the Pirates of the Caribbean theme in there? I hadn't noticed.
Honestly I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's nice to not be completely let down by a Star Wars project 😅
Key word: Completely
@@paulderosa3065 Acolyte had a message they wanted to spread, so far this has no message.
And it does sound like Lucasfilm was maybe skeptical towards the show or at least how it would perform.
because this show gets woke next week
Disney is afraid of anything that cant be tied to Luke Skywalker lol
I liked it a lot! Sometimes I feel like recent star wars shows just get bogged down with the environments and you're constantly aware you're on a set. But Skeleton Crew strikes a good balance of not drawing attention so much to the world around and focusing mainly on our characters and their interactions. I think that's why the show ends up feeling easy to watch and not slow the way Ahsoka and Acolyte rubbed me the wrong way.
I didn’t really realize this but I agree!
The DEI pulls you out of the fantasy and makes sure you feel like you're in "modern" times
Ahsoka gets a pass on that from me, because the characters in that show are feeling themselves realy distant to evrything, becuase they all lost, what previously made them who they are. The slow and distant feel the show makes fits with the characters.
"Fingers crossed something materialises out of a... decent start." I think you summarised my thoughts pretty well.
how is nobody talking about how great Captain Brutus looks?! Disneys Star Wars really struggles with cool alien designs, but this guy looks amazing and intimidating. great effects and costume design
*Elements from The Holiday Special are used in canon*
George Lucas: There's been a distrubance in the force
Visually the quality is pleasing, it looks like they know how to put a story together, I hope the story is good all the way through.
@@JoeVulgamoreAuthor Fair point.
@@JoeVulgamoreAuthor keyword probably we had never seen anything like this prior to any books, movies or TV shows Star Wars related.
100% agree this felt like earth with a little bit of Star Wars sprinkled in but it was enjoyable
I like all Star Wars except The Acolyte 😅
Is it possible in time, they’ll just be pumping out hit after hit? They really need to slow down and take their time with each project.
@williamsteffey3434 have you seen the Bad Batch?
@@djsugarbear6715 I honestly haven’t. I didn’t really care for those few episodes with them at the end of The Clone Wars. I have heard good things though…I may eventually check it out.
It's on the nose with nostalgia to the point of comedy, but I'm liking it. Getting a Truman show side vibe with their planet. Really entertaining so far.
I thought it was fun to watch. The kids are pretty likeable.
Yes it's obvious who Jude Law is
I keep seeing people say this, but I don't think that was ever meant to be a twist? It was pretty obvious from the get-go who he was.
@@shadowtrooper3764 if it wasn't meant to be a twist, why have his face masked?
I enjoyed it and it was kinda neat to see Aldhani mentioned
“Okay” is the best compliment you can give Star Wars these days. I’ll take it.
True💯
Even if this show is ok, I have no interest in watching it at all whatsoever
@Swaguley That can change over time.
You’ll pay for anything and say thank you. Huh.
"Okay" usually means it's actually bad though
I caught myself smiling several times throughout
It’s safe - Im ok with safe
whenever I smiled when watching the acolyte, I was laughing at something ridiculous
Agree that the planet the kids are from is weirdly too Earth like, but it's not that big a deal to me since i assume most of the show isn't gonna happen there and they sort of cancel it out with the pirate base being VERY Star Wars lol
So far I'm looking forward to the rest.
I liked it, good start and hopefully it continues.
I hate that we can rarely see the mouths of that species.
I'm not watching before Thor makes an entire review of season 1 and says it's good
What a stupid way to be
@@NZealand making sure you dont waste your time watching garbage is the opposite of stupid, actually
@NZealand I think he right had to many things start good just to fall of a cliff I will wait till it done and if my friends and the UA-cam reviewers that I find most similar to my tastes give it good reviews I will watch you can give them a free pass any more the burn that bridge
Do you need someone to hold your hand crossing the road? You ballon, watch and judge for yourself 😂
What if he likes it and you don’t, you should watch it your self
I thought it was a great start. I liked the casting for all four of the kids. I thought the production and story were solid. I liked the feel of it. I am looking forward to more. The music score had a few good supporting moments but there were some other times where it was clear to me it was no John Williams behind it all. The endings of each show were well done. "Can you keep a secret?" Honestly, I am just happy that it feels like a well made show again after cringing my way through the Acolyte.
The expectation reversal with the jail scene felt like an homage to Yoda’s revelation in Empire.
The "Great Work" line was a strong early clue about the mystery. Their planet has likely been cut off / hidden from the rest of the galaxy since the High Republic when Chancellor Lina Soh started her Great Works.
Also, protect Neel at all costs!
Neel and Kb instant favorites, Wim is discount luke Skywalker and fern is a bit grating
To quote Djago Unchained: You had my curiosity, now you have my attention.
Pretty obvious who Captain Silvo is but I don't mind. The bigger mystery is abviously what At Attin is all about.
Uh...who is Captain Silvo?
I didn’t know Hawkins Indiana was its own planet in the Star Wars Galaxy
I think it’s fun. And I do think it lives inside the Star Wars universe. It’s a palate cleanser for that Acolyte atrocity. Thor, don’t let your Star Wars traditionalism prevent you from embracing shows like this.
New characters and they are taking a chance with something different. I hope it’s something I can enjoy as well as others.
So far so good….👍
Youre my deciding factor on watching new starwars series thorskywalker ! Its why i subscribed ! Sir!
I had no idea this was coming out now. Still thought it was a couple of months away.
Wait, this came out already!?! I genuinely had no idea
Here for the the spoiler free version. I tried to watch it last night but didn't have time.
I liked it, seems fun. Which means it’s in a whole other league from other recent shows.
Yes I would say so.
Adventure, space pirates many mysteries. I like it.
Current theories:
1. Everyone on the planet are descendents of the original pirate crew that crashed there long ago (The planet being a bit Treasure Island and the original captain being the Star Wars universe's Captain Flint who put his treasure there)
2. The planet is somehow the back-up Death Star 3
3. The "treasure" is "peace in a dangerous galaxy" (and probably family and love)
4. It's something disappointing as Disney fumbles the landing.
I found it fun. Well shot and edited; acting was decent. Loads better than the previous SW show that shall remain nameless, but that in and of itself isn’t too hard to accomplish…
I really liked it. After the Acolyte the bar was set low, but I thought so far it is a really fun show.
I did find it to be fun. It is interesting that the home planet is the great mystery right now.
It wasn’t bad, but their home world is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too similar too Earth. All the aliens were really cool though
Too similar to earth or the United States? Lots of different planets in star wars are based very heavily on different cultures here on earth
its meant to be liek taht though
@@paveldatsyuk8268yes but it’s too heavy handed here.
It's a whole galaxy, so of course there can be a place similar to Earth. Besides, the main species in that galaxy are actually humans 😅
Sweet Liber Tea!
Seeing a suburban life in Star Wars feels extremely odd to me but then again realistically there would be suburbs in canon in Star Wars. Aside from that I love the pirate thing they got going on, the Boba show should have had Boba Fett doing that but as an actual Bounty Hunter.
I enjoyed the first 2 episodes! The pace was great, I loved the adventure!
Your initial thoughts about the show perfectly encapsulate what Disney has done to Star Wars; it’s a post modern film company making current affairs stories, based in a sci-fi /“Star Wars” background.
With the amount of Easter eggs in this show. I feel like jude is going to be one of the young lings laughing at kenobi for losing a planet.
This comment section is full of disneys bot army. Reminds me of the Picard bots when that turd came out
I think there were actual people who enjoyed it.
This was actually really good, I got Star Wars feel to it, maybe not the original 6, but got that Mando season 1 feel.
It’s good I had fun watching it and want to see more , hated the acolyte
The first two episodes, especially the second one were solid and enjoyable. I think a show like this would be so much better received had Disney not been so inconsistent with past projects.
I completely disagree, I think it feels completely like star wars. The opening scene sets the pirate tone, but even the suburban planet still felt star wars enough with the power converters, speeders, jedi references etc. Massive a new hope vibes with Wim wanting more than the life he's told to live by his dad/ others in his planet. Not every star wars planet needs to be tatooine!!
