play the one chord Ian Curtis was able to play now. (he held on to that G chord and refused to let go through the entire song.) For anyone wondering, he activated Treble, Top Boost, and Mid Boost. I think he used the neck or middle pickup and the mid-boost was on the 1st position (the position closer to the bridge).
Maybe that's why The Mummies (not "Here Come the Mummies," that's a different band) occasionally played one; particularly because of the fuzz effect, which fit their sound perfectly. I can hear "That's Mighty Childish" in this guitar just fine. Here's "That's Mighty Childish:" ua-cam.com/video/Nc_uAzfVjeQ/v-deo.html
Had one of these in the 70's when I was overseas with the military, took it to the Maldives and far east, played all the time...never did find out what happened to it....50 years on, a superb upload, many thanks, H6UK
I know for a fact that Anton Newcombe from BJM Digs the Italian Vox sound ! Just an Amazing looking and Sounding guitar ! I Dream of owning one, maybe in the next Life ! Great and Super interesting comparison you made !! I Subbed, hope we see more of these Trippy sounding guitars !
Jones used a Phantom but the teardrop is the Vox guitar he is most famous for using. Curtis only used the Phantom (the only guitar he was ever photo'ed using) so he is much more famous than Jones for using a Phantom. Very few people know Jones used a Phantom and there are very few photos of him playing one..
This would have been cutting edge in it's day, I recall early AC30s didn't have top boost, this did, so would have been great. The "repeat" is good too, even the fuzz tone has it's own flavour. Deffo a guitar where the player needs to understand the instrument.
I bought one back in 1972, it looked amazing and the sound features seemed awesome, but did not get happy with it, so sold it and bought a Gibson Standard instead, still do!
what would make this great video REALLY terrific would be if you SPOKE ON MIC so we could hear your wonderfully lucid explanations of this awesome instrument without turning volume up to 11.
I was thinking Spacemen 3 before you mentioned it but even for the Phantom (9.00-9.22 mins in), which sounded like their first LP. But I bow to your knowledge.
Real hip !;! A friend in another band had a mid 60;;s vox white teardrop body bass with an original factory installed fuzz control. It wasn't real practical but cool. I also remember the guitar head with the tuning keys was huge. I was brought up in the Detroit downriver area. This is the only bass I ever saw like this. Good stuff ! On this channel.
F a n g the bass player of Paul Revere and the Raiders played a bass version of The Phantom with a fender neck. He must have gummed it up or screwed it up somehow because he doesn't perform with it anymore. The Phantom is the coolest looking guitar out there. Long Live Paul Revere and the Raiders 1960 / 2014, 54 years of rocking insanity! Howdy from Dallas Texas
The repeat is exactly like a tremolo with the dry sound off. It has a great sound palette but along with the lack of a dry signal, I would have thought they would have had an on/off for each pick-up. That would provide much more tonal variation so easily.
Living Loving Maid was a 12 string standard. If you want a special sound listen to Love Will Tear Us Apart and Heart and Soul by Joy Division. Then Everything's Gone Green by New Order. Jesus and Mary Chain used one as well
Great demo !! You sir REALLY are a fantastic guitarist and are REALLY good at demonstrating the various songs that could (or have been used..) !! Enjoyed your skills and trip into the past..! Many WOWS to you !!!
A lot of 60s film soundtracks used both VOX sounds. Look up "The Pridoner" " Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons", "joe 90" anything Anglo/Italian....Enniio Morricone .
Thanks for the demo. I love every trashy sound this guitar gets. I like the mid boost circuit. I may incorporate that in place of one of the Tones on my Phantom, though it occurs to me that it may only work in an active circuit.
Cool video on both guitars man. Noticed that you were playing losing touch with my mind. spacemen 3 revolutionized those guitars for what nobody really ever used. I would kill for a guitar like that. Idk if you've seen the video but Pete Townsend of the who plays a vox star stream (I believe) and does his trademark smash... Very hard to see.
spacemen 3 played the ultrasonics, which are the italian made versions of these, which they did in a more traditional semi hollow body, as well as the teardrop shape
This guitar is active it is shame I don’t like active bass guitar because the 9 volt battery lasted for some time but I like the passive bass guitar because it has no battery
Not much to say. The Vox trem is ~a Bigsby copy and has ~the same performance. Unfortunately the early trem rollers like this guitar has are plastic. They get brittle over time and often break. The later models used metal rollers which are superior. If anyone has this issue with their old Vox, you can obtain replacement metal rollers from Phantom Guitar Works.

The fuzz is really distinctive and likable. I dig that fuzz. This is a great guitar in spite of the active pickups.
Anthony Edwards i agree i like the fuzz
it's awesome, "trashy" like he says ^^
The Vox has those trashy garage sounds that I love so much!
Boogiewoogie me too

Thanks for sharing! I hope it's a survivor and is getting played and loved by someone.
@@acidfuzzpedals9986 thank you. bought it from a music shop in Limassol, Cyprus.....cost a fortune, but worth it.happy daze...h6uk
Looove...love will tear us apart...again
This guitar plus some killer fuzz pedals would probably yield some really great tones. Its got this great 60's psychedelic vibe to it.. very cool.
The guitar is the coolest thing ever.
True sixties sound!! Just amazing.
what year is this Phantom 6?
Super cool, man! Thanks for the upload.

Spacemen 3 !!! 😮 edit: second guitar is absolute madness !!! thanks you for sharing those incredible instruments !!
I love how you transposed Dave Brubeck’s ‘Take Five’ onto your guitar.
It really was Take Six. Jajaja
I had a Vox Phantom new in 1968. Great guitar.
That fuzz is pure SPLATTERTONE.
9:14...I'm losin....losin touch with my mind...
Wow...the fuzz on the Italian model. Comets On Fire! Much prefer the Italian one, loved the tremolo effect and that hand Wah thingy, pure Spacemen 3.
Ian Curtis :D
Love Will Tear Us Apart
Such a cool guitar, would love one. Maybe one day. Great demo and playing
Ian curtis
Love the last note you play most of all.
It's a crime that he didn't play "Cant get no Satisfaction" with that fuzz on a Vox 🤣
Ian Curtis is the most famous person to use a Vox Phantom!
Arguable. Greg Kihn used one.
Never heard of him .@@jcraigshelton
Brian Jones first

AC30s had top boost long before the active circuitry for the 'special' series guitars was developed, however ;)
Listen to that quack!
🦆
Grew up with these tones, I miss them, bands today, go back and try these out
its a coooool sound!
amazing …

You should turn on subtitles

I can hear Bobby Brady saying, 'groovy!'
Mary Ann. Amen. Losin touch with my mind. :P
Great song choices

Vox Phantom VI is outta this world!!
Awesome vintage Vox ❤🎸😈👍
That fuzz is squanch as. I love it
Nice bit of Losing Touch with my Mind there great song great guitar man!
I love this thing. It sounds great.

Main that on-board fuzz has that real 60's psychedelic tone.
This guitar is a sonic time capsule]])!] Thanks for your demo.
Never been a VoX,nut, but just Appreciate the History! Thanks!
Love it ! I have a sunburst Grand Prix ..67/68.. Would love to see a video about the Grand Prix so I can learn more about it. Cheers!

As a kid I was enamored with the Vox Phantom….
I love this guitar, and you have the 60s Psychedelic vibe. 👍
Really cool! Great demo must be worth a fortune
Brubeck on a Vox... nice.
Cool review, cool guitar!
I knew some guy in the 70s, with exactly this version of Phantom..
At the time l also had a Vox ..
An Apollo bass ..
my dad had one long time ago 1970s he still crying for it
I like the nod to Take Five
My dream guitar!
I wanna hear any record made with this guitar. Such a cool sound.
Led Zeppelin Living Lovin Made
Living Loving Maid was a 12 string standard. If you want a special sound listen to Love Will Tear Us Apart and Heart and Soul by Joy Division. Then Everything's Gone Green by New Order. Jesus and Mary Chain used one as well
Electric Prunes and Brian Jones come to mind.
Great demo !! You sir REALLY are a fantastic guitarist and are REALLY good at demonstrating the various songs that could (or have been used..) !! Enjoyed your skills and trip into the past..! Many WOWS to you !!!
What a cool guitar. Yes, I want that one too!

Brian Jones Special ! Love that Fuzz & Tremelo. Maybe a little 2000 Light years from home or Dirty Water or Hey Joe is just fine !

pretty slick for an old beast
gorgeous
i need this guitar NOW
Oh Those are Some Killer Guitars... Only Vox I Tell Ya ☺☺😎💯💖 And Thanx a Million for The Upload and Sharing ☺😎👊💯
I wish had one of those guitars
The fuzz on that 2nd guitar is absolutely beautiful
if you were to wire the pickup directly to the output jack where would you wire the effects to?
Beautiful guitar. Does anyone know of any cheaper alternative to this?. With built in fx.
The free-pass card of any European indie Band, along with Farfisa organs
Sounds so good .......
Love that dirty water, and guitar too 😅
beastly guitar

@@michaellavenderFender Jaguar as well

“It’s just what you expect from a classic silicon fuzz face mark 1.5 tone bender” ya know
4:40 5:29 7:50 can someone please let me know the names of these songs
Yer a a one-man hippy garage band with that-there git-fiddle parrrrrrd-ner!
Dude, that Fuzz sounds so Tame Impala - Elephant
I can’t believe you didn’t at least play a Joy Division riff with this in your hands…
Killer!
With the mid boost it sound identical to the guitar from I’ve got levitation by the 13th floor elivators
That guitar is incredibly cool! Who needs a pedal board?
VERY COOL!
How old is that guitar, how much & r they still making them?
Michel Cera used this
I need both..
What year was this made? I'm sorry if you said it and I just missed it
that fuzz sound reminds me of the Troggs records, are you sure this isnt Italian built?
Made in UK.
This guitar is active it is shame I don’t like active bass guitar because the 9 volt battery lasted for some time but I like the passive bass guitar because it has no battery
That FUZZZ
If ya dont want any Snap Crackle or PoP!D 5 or DeOxit, nah!Unless ya like that!
Feelin' funny in my mind Lord
4:40 what song is that?
I have an old Vox Grand Prix. I bypassed all the effects and gimmicks and just wired it like a Les Paul.
whats that second guitar you use? that guitar is a thing of beauty, i'd sell my left lung for that
Vox Invader V262
wonderful guitar - why no comment on tremelo arm, build quality, machine heads, etc?

I had one with same electronics for repairs at the shop but 12 strings...
Are you one of the guitarists from the Allah Las?!
"Does Jack Wite have one of these?" was my first thought. Cool guitar.
